Spears: Nets Have "Strong Interest" in Marquette Swingman Jimmy Butler

Stay connected for news and updates

Add yet another name to those who the Nets may like at #27: Jimmy Butler, Marquette's 6'8" swingman. A fast riser on draft boards over the past month, Butler has gained the interest of a number of teams at the bottom of the first round, including New Jersey, writes Marc J. Spears on Tuesday. Spears lists the Draft's "sleepers".

"Butler is slated for a second workout Wednesday with the Boston Celtics (25th pick). Oklahoma City (24th) and New Jersey (27th) have strong interest as well," writes Spears who also lists Justin Harper as another draft sleeper the Nets have interest in.  Quoting an NBA scout, Spears writes, Butler is a "solid wing defender and an average scorer. Great role player. Will be an excellent teammate and leader like Raja Bell ."

Chad Ford wrote of Butler's movie script-like life last weekend.
