Honeycutt, Locals In Thursday
UCLA small forward Tyler Honeycutt, a projected first rounder, will be the biggest name in the building Thursday when the Nets continue their workouts. . He'll be joined by several local guys, small forward Jonathan Mitchell of Rutgers by way of Mount Vernon and shooting guard Jeremy Hazell of Seton Hall by way of Harlem and small forward Rashad Bishop of Cincinnati via Paterson and two power forwards, Notre Dame's Carleton Scott and Dayton's Chris Wright.

Honeycutt is dropping like a rock in Mock Drafts
He was being projected in the top 20 a few weeks ago. I hope he doesnt pull a Sean Williams, Marcus Williams on us if we take him. We always get burnt on the player who slides in the draft excluding Lopez.

In this draft
it makes as much sense as anything else. the reality is no one knows where anyone is going. Normally, by this point in the draft 1) the mock drafts start to get similar. Not even close in this year’s with players at #15 in one, #26 in another. 2) there are indications of who the Nets like. In 2007 by this point, we knew the Nets were interested in Sean Williams. In 2008, by this point, we may not have know Brook Lopez was going to drop, but we knew there was a lot of interest in Robin. In 2009, by this point, we know the Nets were interested in Terrence Williams and last year everyone knew the Nets were going to take Derrick Favors.
+1
In that Yahoo mock draft, they have Marshon Brooks at 15th, and Alec Burks, who has always been projected as a lottery pick, with New York at 17?
I’m tired of speculating who they’ll draft, but my thoughts parallel those of Tim Capstraw in that interview in that the Nets need to address the athleticism on the wings. That should be the priority.

Makes no sense is putting it politely...(LOL)
- Dallas take Bertans SF
- Bulls take Justin Harper PF
- Spurs take Mirotic
and with the #27 pick the dim witted Nets take Charles Jenkins a 22 years old guard ???
Hey my comment was edited... (LOL)
…..#26 Dallas take Bertans
…..#28 Bulls take Harper
…..#29 Spurs take Mirotic
Three of the smarter teams in the NBA somehow miss out on Charles Jenkins but the Nets draft him ?
Mirotic is not a stretch to me
He’s sort of like that Tiago Splitter pick a while back for the Spurs. A talented guy that can’t come over for a few more years. They’ve shown they’re willing to wait
Harper's not that crazy of a pick for the Bulls too
They desperately need perimeter shooting, and he can provide that
Honeycuuuuuutt!
I say we get him. I like this guy.
Put on some weight, do some push ups, dribble through some cones, and we are ready to go.

Yes
I like him and there is a need and UCLA has a good record lately. Reminds me of Sefolosha. Some people say Prince but he’s not that long, I don’t think. Adding weight is about the one thing you can be 100% confident you can get a player to do.
thats what the Nets thought about outlaw

Nah.
Outlaw was out of shape and a little overweight because he didn’t keep himself together over the summer. Honeycutt is already fit, he just needs more mass.
Outlaw let himself go. It is a completely different scenario.

I still believe the Nets will draft big men...
Right now we have a grand total of two big men under contract for next season, Brook and Petro. That is amazing !
BPA, as is the usual

when picking in the twenties ? Shouldn’t you draft for need at that point ?
Cousins toxic attitude made him undraftable to many. It was debatable, and still is, as to who has more upside. I’d have taken Favors every time.
On June 29th, 2001, the New Jersey Nets and the Phoenix Suns agreed to a trade involving Stephon Marbury and Jason Kidd.

A new beginning. LETS GO NETS!
Also, it’s not simply BPA. Ideally, you blend BPA with need. If the best player available doesn’t fit a need, and he isn’t significantly better than the second best player available who does fit a need, you take the second best player. If the best isnt tremendously better than the second best, then you ignore the need.

hazell was projected to get drafted as well until he got shot this season def a good scorer but is risky for any team to take him drafted or not.
If the Nets pick Charles Jenkins, here's why
Jenkins ranks as the second most efficient isolation threat in the NCAA (after Andrew Goudelock), scoring on over 50% of his attempts when going one on one (minimum 50 possessions). He also ranks in the top-10 in pick and roll situations and in the top-25 as a catch and shoot threat.
Amongst NCAA prospects classified as point guards in the DraftExpress database, Jenkins currently trails only Kyrie Irving (who played just 8 games this season) in both True Shooting Percentage, and Effective Field Goal Percentage. This speaks not only to the tremendous shooter that Jenkins has developed into over the course of his career, but also the impressive shot selection he has shown this season despite the need his team has for him to score.
While players like Fredette, Walker, Providence star Marshon Brooks and even Charleston’s Andrew Goudelock are attempting in the realm of 18 to 19 shots per game, the Hofstra senior has managed his eye popping scoring numbers on just 14.5 attempts. In fact, in 28 games this season, Jenkins has taken 20 shots only three times, and two of those games went to overtime.

I think he can be a nice bench spark for you
A Eddie House type instant offense guy, perhaps even Marcus Thornton
That's a full grown man
as MJax would say. That’s a Andrew Toney, Vinnie Johnson, Terrell Owens body.
agreed
I like him as that bench spark plug who can score. Not exactly the area I’d like to address put I guess at that point in this draft you just take a good player

How about if a team doesn't like what they see when their turn comes up...
and Billy offers them some cash, and one of our later picks ? Some teams needing to cut costs and not liking to play more money drafting a higher pick player, might like the idea.
Billy King actually said this;
“I think you may see a lot more trades happening draft day because a player may not be there and people want to get rid of their picks.”
doubt any pick gets "sold" prior to 15 where the pacers are gonna snag brooks

Probably only the teams in financial trouble, or the veteran teams that don't want rookies will be the ones to do that
Teams like Miami or OKC have no use for rookies
I don't see many picks being sold
If they are, there will be teams willing to trade players + the cash to get it.

Maybe the Nets will trade their picks...
Maybe Billy King might use his picks and other assets to trade for a veteran player.
If we had a pick of value maybe

If a team wants to get rid of a veteran player for whatever reason...
and see someone they like at #27, that pick might help get the deal done.
I think there will be a bunch of attractive players that will fall down to us when it’s our turn to pick. I have a hunch that after pick # 14, all bets are off on who’s better then who. That is why many mock drafts are bouncing players around like ping-pong balls.
so we should offer 1 BILLION DOLLARS (dr evil voice)
for the #1 pick

I'm really getting pumped up about the upcoming draft...
Last years draft was anti-climatic. This years draft should prove to be very interesting.
I think we will get an idea on what the Nets philosophy is going forward.
Billy King seems very confident and I like that, and with his winning personalty and charm he probably will find somebody to dance with come draft day…
Charles Jenkins looks like a very good player
but can he manage against guards like Wade, Bryant, Joe Johnson, etc.?
He seems like a very smart scorer, but what do you do with 2 bench point guards already? Get rid of one?
I like Iman Shumpert from Tech, very athletic and can score in many different ways. Can play the 1, 2, and 3, versatility that any team should want. If the Nets can walk away with him and Tyler, I’d be ecstatic. Nets would probably have to move up a few spots to get Iman however
by JerseysFinest. on Jun 16, 2011 10:15 AM EDT reply actions
Well plenty of other undersized guards have found success
If JJ Barea can find success at a bare 6’0", Jenkins could too.
But Barea predominantly plays at the point
There are a lot of point guards that are that size or smaller, a very popular one being CP3.
We’ll just have to see what happens, I just have qualms seeing him play the off guard with D-Will. If the Nets draft him, he hopefully proves me wrong
by JerseysFinest. on Jun 16, 2011 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions
I would like to get some rebounders and defense minded big men...
These scoring guards and wings are very attractive but I don’t think that’s the Nets biggest need right now.
Jenkins is a safe choice
Charles is a safe choice because he’s a big physical guard who scores without taking a team out of its offense. Although he’s been a star and ball dominant in college he has the right approach to colmpliment D-Will. The guys with upside all come with signivicant questions. In round 2 I hope they take a flyer on Chandler Parsons who I think has a chance to be really good.

Picks 25-30 over the years
2010: Dominique Jones, Quincy Pondexter, Jordan Crawford, Greivis Vasquez, Daniel Orton, Lazer Hayward
2009: Rodrigue Beaubois, Taj Gibson, DeMarre Carroll, Wayne Ellington, Toney Douglas, Christian Eyenga
2008: Nicolas Batum, George Hill, Darrell Arthur, Donte Greene, DJ White, JR Giddens
2007: Morris Almond, Aaron Brooks, Aaron Afflalo, Tiago Splitter, Alando Tucker, Petteri Koponen
2006: Shannon Brown, Jordan Farmar, Sergio Rodriguez, Maurice Ager, Mardy Collins, Joel Freeland
Seriously, this late in the draft, you can’t be too picky. You just want someone, anyone who can stay in the league. Half the guys you’ll have to choose from at 25-30 will have no contribution whatsoever to the NBA
what a gamble
2010: injured, doesnt play, decent on bad team, bad on good team, injured, bad on bad team
2009: injured before he broke out, good on good team, no talent tweener, bad, good bench player, bad
2008: good on good team, good on good team, good on good team, lazy, bad, bad
2007: who?, good but inconsistent, good on good team, inconsistent, bad, who?
2006: d-league to bench player, bench player, back in europe, bad, bad, who?

Not bad for so late
I see a 1/3 chance of getting a rotation player. Think of how bad the Nets drafted in the past decade in the 11-25 window. This isn’t any worse.
I don’t think you’re giving these players enough credit. Actually sounds like you’re trying to make them sound bad. For example, it’s completely unnecessary to mention that Shannon Brown was in the d-league. He’s a good role player on a championship team, that should be the focus. Some of these guys its simply too early to call them “bad,” give them time to develop. Eyenga showed potential as a rookie, as did Vazquez.
You’re not looking for an all-star at 27, though you can get one (Tony Parker, etc.).

OT, from rotoworld
Greg Oden’s agent said his client will be very cautious with his latest rehab, insisting that the former No. 1 overall pick won’t even test his knee in a game until at least November.
Oden went under the knife for microfracture surgery on his knee last November. While he had been talking about trying to get ready for training camp, agent Bill Duffy splashed cold water on that idea. “We’re not going to even challenge it until we get to that 12 month threshold. If it were December or November or January we just can’t afford any more slip ups,” Duffy said. No matter who Oden is playing for, he’s likely to miss at least the first two months of the season
I wonder how much one could get him for with the knowledge that he probably won’t be a factor next year
I feel sorry for Greg Oden...
but that is crazy money for somebody who might never play effectively again.
No wonder NBA teams lose money…
part of his rookie deal
derrick rose QO will be around 9.1 million dollars
but there is no denying the defensive presence and odens general high iq of the game. in his limited action he had an approximate PER of 24.
but he is still 22. all he has to do is take his time. none of his injuries have been related and several were freak slips on the court
even if he took the year off to get back at full strength at 24 years old. he still is going to be a defensive force while still learning an offensive game
mobility and athleticism were never part of his game in the first place.

Post injuries and surgeries Oden is another story. He’s probably slower than Lopez or Ilgauskas at this point.
