Melo Was Ready to Play with the Nets
Carmelo Anthony said Thursday what he hinted at before: he thought he'd wind up not with Knicks, but with the Nets. And since he had always insisted he would sign an extension before the trade deadline, he implied that he'd have signd with the Nets as well. 'Melo talked about the last minute trade talks on "The View".
"I think it was a lot of negotiation back and forth between a lot of the teams," said Anthony, who was joined on the TV show by his wife, LaLa Vasquez. "With the Knicks, it came down to the last hour before the trade deadline, and it happened. Me personally, I thought I was going to end up in New Jersey."
The Nets had offered the Nuggets a package of Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh, four first round picks and $3 million for Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman, Melvin Ely and Shelden Williams. The four picks being offered were the Nets' 2011 pick; the Lakers' 2011 pick; the Warriors' 2012 pick; and the Rockets' 2012 pick. Two days later, of course, the Nets bagged Deron Williams for Favors, Harris and two picks: the Nets' 2011 pick and the Warriors' 2012 pick, and $3 million. Separately, the Nets sent Murphy to the Warriors for two expiring contracts, Dan Gadzuric and Brandan Wright.

I don't believe it
Behind the scenes I’m sure he and others knew he would somehow get traded to the Knicks. Melo is just trying to look like he forced Denver’s hand. Dolan I’m sure told him to sit tight no matter what he was hearing.
how dont you believe it? if it was true that he wouldnt have come here knicks wouldnt have offered all that..they beat our deal giving up mozgov and gallo and chandler..i think he would be a net but im fine with Deron..I think Deron is better

Threads like these bring back memories.
"I think I’m the best point guard in the league. No reason. I just think I’m the best.’’-Deron Williams.
No doubt.
I was waking up at 2 in the morning to check for new information on some nights, and I would usually find some sort of update. Good times on NetsDaily. SBN was loaded with traffic on those days.

those were awful times
my only good memory from those times is the obvious one of it all ending with us getting D-Will
The results were depressing at the time they happened. But the moment we got Deron made the struggles worth it.

Anthony would had made us cool and a playoff team but that would be it. You need talent with high carector.

thank god you didnt,,, good riddens and worst of luck to melo and the knicks
Tell it how it is ! or just shut the hell up !
Nothing to regret, no reason to be disappointed.
Thus far, the road we took has brought us a long way. The value we were giving in the Melo deal was absurd, especially with the draft picks. 2/23, we dealt for a better player and dealt less. We saved at least two draft picks, Ammo, and Uzoh. Billy King made a name for himself, and Prokhy and the FO was given a LOT of credit.

There wasn't enough time left to make playoffs. Indiana ended up winning 37 games. Denver wanted it that way so their draft pick would be better.
And Chauncey may be damaged goods, with his now “bum” knee that gave out twice already. Yet we would have had to pay him $14.2 million just like the Knicks did.
@ JerseysFinest
NO! We have a better chance of making the playoffs with Deron Williams leading this team.
LETS GO NETS!
Actually, no, we didn't
Deron was injured last season when we got him. It’s obvious that having him is better for the franchise than the Nuggets trade, but we would’ve had a better chance at the playoffs last season had we traded for a healthy Melo.
Thank heavens we didn’t get Melo.
Deron is a building block. Melo is a piece.
Melo is not a leader and doesn’t inspire his teammates to be better.

...to put it into perspective in terms of Nets history...
Melo would have helped our team as much as Marbury did when we traded for him.
Instead we got our Kidd in D-Will.
Thank heavens we didn’t get Melo.

Melo two seconds on the clock passes it to Lopez
clock runs out, and says:
“Well I did what I had to do pass it to the my wide open teammate he wasn’t able to get the shot off not my problem”.
Lopez wouldv’e been Knicks Jefferies if they made the playoffs.
"I think I’m the best point guard in the league. No reason. I just think I’m the best.’’-Deron Williams.
Knicks -scratch that
Nets Jefferies.

this guy says all the right things...... all BS.
I am going to turn this team around 360 Degrees- Jason Kidd
Huh...?
Anyway, whatever he said, that deal was so bad for Nets.
Even more, it’s just he was ready for playing Nets not like to play for Nets.
This interview doesn’t hurt the Nets fan.
Maybe the Knicks aren’t sooo special after all.
Amar’e said he would’ve played for the Nets had he gotten the money. Now ‘Melo is saying he would’ve also played for the Nets.

If you think about it you get a better point guard in Billups because Devin is way too injury prone. Plus no Morrow included in the trade that would've been a good deal.
Still Dwill>Melo
and he wouldn’t have came here.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
I always thought he would have signed if Knicks deal fell thru its always about the money
Even when its not about the money.
"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."
Also
If Melo signed with us, the main reason could be to get a max contract before the new CBA.
On the other hand, Deron’s motives are driving the team to build around him and satisfy his requests.

Yankees-Nets-Broncos
Yeah and this team needed a leader
On and off the court, surprising we got him after J-kidd, almost the same way crazy.
"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."
That's pure BS....
Why even p[ost this….Please…..
Melo thought we'd rather have that crappy deal
than landing the best PG in the league and, now, potentially Dwight. What an idiot!

If of course, he was serious.
WHEN YOU DESCRIBE the prototypical NBA center, he is not complete without superlative size, strength and athleticism. He’ll fight for the tough rebounds in the trenches, but is just as quick to burn you with a shot from 15 feet.
Johan Petro possesses all of these skills and more, and at a mere 23 years of age, he bears all the promise of fulfilling his vast potential.
Mark my words If Melo wouldve signed with the Nets and Deron to the Knicks you guys would have been saying the Nets got the better deal. Its way to early to tell who got the better deal..especially if Deron doesn’t resign.

The Nets could possibly signed Melo, but the Knicks, never would get DWill...
…DWill wasn’t on the block, we have to make a bow to billy King, because he was the one who pull that off, because he knew Jazz GM from the Sixers days and was a friend of him and almost by accident he made the trade, he wasn’t chasing Dwill, no one knew Dwill was available, and if the King didn’t pull that off, Dwiil would still be a Jazz player.
DWill all the way to the Finals!! some day, very close...

DWill was on the block
It’s been stated many times that the “loser” of the Melo-Drama was going to get DWill the next day.
It depends who you believe
and frankly, there’s a lot of holes in Kevin Oconner’s story.
Good luck to Melo
but I’m glad we traded less for the better player

I wonder what will be the Knicks strategy for next year. Will they try to save for maximum cap space for 2012-2013 to be able to afford CP3 in free agency?
If that becomes the Knicks strategy, then they would have to think twice about trying to sign Dalembert to a multi-year contract (assuming there would be a MLE or that a hard cap with a $70+ million limit is put in place? Knicks could be worse next year, if they decide to save for 2012-2013.
I wonder if CP3 would be willing to refuse signing an extension with any team NO trades him to, except for the Knicks?
Since Knicks have nothing to offer NO in a trade, that would be the only way they could land him.
well isnt the reason that they extended Billups
is so he would expire next year when Cp3 is a FA, and so is Deron if he doesnt sign the extension and D12 as well!
But NO would trade CP3 elsewhere before the Feb. trade deadline and DWill will likely re-sign with Nets by the 1st regular season game (if Lopez appears more fit, if Hump re-signs, if AK47 signs up and maybe another SG and a couple of Vet Mins.)
CP3 would have to refuse signing extension with other teams.
And letting Billups $14.2 million shouldn’t make enough room for CP3 since Knicks might only be 5-10 million under the cap (assuming a new addition at Center for next year – unless the new hard cap is raised to over $70.
oh ok
i wasnt certain regarding the cap situation of the knicks. Hmm, maybe they will sign felton to another 2 year 10 million making it a 5 mill per.
Unless they cheat somehow the Knicks simply CANNOT add another star player.

Like the NBA, who own New Orleans, does something improper.
The Knicks will be at 61.2 million for next year upon signing their 1st round pick (9th player) before they fill up the rest of the roster.
The Knicks are cheaters
and the NBA is in control of NO, so I wouldn’t put anything past them.
And why would Felton sign with the Knicks?
I really don’t see how any player would give any discount to the Knicks, just so that players can be dealt as soon as they play well, or dumped as soon as something better comes along ala Miami.
That’s why the Knicks are filled with rejects now, like Stoudmire, who no one else wanted to pay, Fields, who every team passed on at least once, Shawn Williams, who has somehow managed not to be arrested long enough to play an entire season
I love Deron
but i wouldnt of mind Melo. Even though Deron is a leader, while Melo isnt. But Melo is probably one of the best offensive players. He can create his own shot and one of the best finishers.
I wouldn't mind getting Melo either
but that package that we had to give up was horrendous. It also totally killed our cap for years to come AND traded away all of our picks and assets. Terrible!
Now we have Deron AND cap flexibility!
Come on Melo...
Don’t tell me you’re having regrets already! You wanted the Bricks now live with your decisions haha…
OT draft express

I actually like Justin a lot. I know he doesnt like contact, but he has some kind of NBA ready body on him. No pause!!!!
Also he has range on his shot, and has one of the quickest 2nd jumps. Reminds of a Larry Nance type player.

i love him. During the tourney i recorded a lot of richmands games, and he impressed me.
WOW
I didn’t realize how much we were giving up for Melo…
..and the Knicks deal:
Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Anthony Carter, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams from Denver for Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, a 2014 first-round draft pick and a 2012 and a 2013 second-round pick (from the Warriors) and $3 million. Knicks also sent center Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph and $3 million to the Timberwolves for Corey Brewer. The Timberwolves also sent Kosta Koufos to the Nuggets.
Melo signed the extension
Deron’s signature is the only thing standing between our massive show-up of the Knicks and our massive failure.
It’s probably evident, but I’m just a bit tired of all the talk from players. I love Deron and hope he enters the NBA Hall of Fame as a Brooklyn Net – but sign the contract when it’s in front of you and I’ll get excited then.

By that you mean someone who can drop 40 a nite but only has been out the 1st round once and never been to the finals?
Melo is a good player but he has shown be nothing over his career.
We will eventually get a scorer on this team. He might not be the Melo 40 a nite scorer but if he can drop 30 I will be pleased. I think that player is going to be Derozan. I said it here 1st.
Derozan in 2013!

but he can also score. don’t let the two months of an injured wrist fool you
he definitely can close games with his scoring if need be

Thank goodness for small
favors…we could have been stuck with Melo instead of DWil…sometimes the stars all align properly……and I was one of the people that actually wanted that black hole….look at the negative effect he had on AMare – who was truly having an MVP type season…..
Amare was have an MVP for a period of a few weeks
His effectiveness and the Knicks’ record all slowed down long before Melo got dealt
yeah they were beating up on the soft part of the schedule
when they went 20-5 or something they were playing basically teams that finished well out of the playoff race. then they had to play teams like the celtics, heat, magic, mavs, spurs, etc and started getting pummeled

Gotta admit
If they wouldve gotten d will and amare and we were just stuck with melo and…id be pretty pissed..we wouldve been screwed
gotta admit?
well considering that everyone agrees with you, it’s not that hard to “admit”
The Knicks would never have gotten D-Will
Kevin O’conner’s story is very different that Billy King’s story, and is also filled with several holes. Billy King’s story makes much more sense, which would mean that D-Will would never have been dealt if not for his relationship with O’conner. And besides, were they Jazz REALLY interested in the Knicks’ assets? Look at how valuable those assets were to Denver in the playoffs.
LOL
Yeah. If you had to trade DWILL, and you were getting Felton, Chandler, Gallo, Mozgov, and a pick then heck yeah.
Felton
Chandler/Miles
Gallo/AK47
Milsap.Mozgov
Jefferson/Mozgov
That’s much better than what they have now
All of the Knicks
that got dealt were almost completely useless against OKC, totally disappeared. And the assets we traded to the Jazz are all more valuable than anything the Knicks lost. It’s very debatable whether the Jazz would have been better with a Knicks deal, but considering that the Knicks traded 4 NBA players, as opposed to the Nets trading 2, then yeah, last year might have been a little better for them with the other deal. But those picks they got from us, versus having mediocre talent without enough minutes to go around, yeah, our assets are much better.
Besides, did you actually watch Denver vs OKC? The ex-Knicks were pathetic!
what if
we got kobe
lol
