Possible Vets to Sign
So Deron Williams says he wants vets, how do we feel about adding Tracy McGrady to the roster? He can still play and is start worthy in my opinion. He's a free agent and won't be all too expensive, so he would be a cheap solution to some of the problems we have. Our team needs another player that can create shots on his own and I feel he can still do that, specially playing along side DWill. He is definitely an upgrade over Sasha and Morrow.. Andrei Kirilenko goes without saying too.. Vet, Russian, played with DWill already and a great defender, something this team needs. How would this roster look?
C- Brook Lopez
PF- Kris Humphries
SF- Andrei Kirilenko
SG- Tracy McGrady
PG- Deron Williams
Still not a championship team, but I think it would be heading in the right direction.. I think we would also need to work out a trade for a better PF by either sign and trading Kris Humphries or forgetting him altogether and going after maybe David West. Of course Dwight Howard would be the perfect solution thus moving Brook Lopez to PF. Just my ramblings. Just thought I'd bring up TMac's name since I haven't seen anyone else do it.

Nick Young
Nick Young would also be a great choice at SG, young and a great shooter.
He's going to demand big buckets, one dimensional just scores, a chucker and plays no D.
DWill all the way to the Finals!! some day, very close...
I believe
that Marcus Thornton is our answer at SG but he will most likely stay in SAC, so I think we are gonna end up with Smith or even possibly Jrich or Crawford as those two are veterans.

I think management is smart enough to know that Crawfors is better off the bench, streaky and a ball hog.
JR Smith is not coming. Please stop.

K so then that means..Jrich or Morrow will be our starting sg next season…And JR is still better than any wing we have on the roster
Official Member of the "Travis OutLOL Society". 5 years, 35 Million Dollars worth of lulz.
No, there is also Mayo, which very well may be available via trade.
Reggie Williams from GS – good size and puts up nice numbers when plays 25 mins or more.
Theres also a chance we get a SG from a trade, maybe Stephen Jax. The 2 SG's I'd like the most would be
Thornton, or Afflalo. Either way I’d be more than satisfied we if had Vince Carter.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
Yea I think we can still get rid of Petro in that trade that was supposed to happen, that should just be a last option if we don't get any FA at the SG spot.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
T-Mac is worth a look
As a rotational bench player. He isnt a starter in this league any more and he most certainly can not create a shot like he used to. His knee injuries over the years have caused him to decline tremendously. He still has the skill-set but cant use them because of the knees. I think he can be a solid player off the bench and he wont command big money AT ALL.
I disagree that we need to upgrade the PF position. Hump is just fine. One misconception that we all have is that the majority of fans want a star or “big” name at every position. Thats not true. Ive always staid true to my beleive that you need a star PG and C with a high flying/scoring SG or SF. We need to upgrade the SF position dramatically this offseason to compete in the playoffs. Hump gets the job done. He rebounds better then anyone ive seen in a Nets uniform and adds 10 pts. What more do you want from that position? We have 2 20+ pt scorers already in D-Will and Lopez. Upgrade the wings and we will be just fine.
Hump is more than just fine. Just look at this - http://www.sportsinsanity.com/wordpress/2011/04/27/impact-of-deron-williams/
Averaging basically 15-15 a game when Deron williams came to the Nets and he also made Brook Lopez better with his rebounds going up 1.5 a game. Then looking at this blocks, virtually doubling from .9 a game to 1.8!
Thats better than Nene, if he can do that and more on a nightly basis why pay extra just to have a more polished offense and some more athleticism?
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
I posted this on another thread. Don't think it's too off base.
We trade Outlaw and Petro to Detroit for Rip and Villanueva. They shed 9 mil in salary and we pick up two players for 9 mil. Rip starts at SG and Villa off the bench at PF.
Send Morrow, James, 2011 pick, 2012 pick to Indy for Granger/Dahntay Jones. We pick up another 7.5 mil in salary and still have room for Hump, though we’ll go over the cap some. Indy seems to want to go young – move Paul George to SF and have Morrow at SG with James backing up SF.
Our lineup:
Deron/Farmar/Gaines
Rip/Jones/Farmar
Granger/Jones/Pick
Hump/Villa/Pick
Lopez/Cheap big like McRoberts or Wilcox
or, if no Indy trade
Deron/Farmar/Gaines
Rip/Morrow
AK/James
Hump/Villanueva
Lopez/cheap big
plus our 2 picks – or 1 pick, we may have to give one to Detroit.
i like this
but not the rip idea. i like granger.
there are other 2-guards i’d consider.

I 'm not crazy about his age, but he hasn't played too much the last 2 seasons. He has championship experience
and moves superbly without the ball. I’m sure he can get back to his 18 pts per playing with DWill. Morrow will learn a lot from him, if not used in the Indy trade.
The /picks are either or, depends on who we draft, since we're using one for Indy trade.
maybe it takes another player or pick with Indy…..
Carter>McGrady if there is a geezer signing
Im not sure about the Magics and Rocket History but im sure Carter did better at lead the Raptors and Nets when compared to McGrady leading the Magics and Rockets, which weren’t exactly bad teams.

I would trade Outlaw tweener sand this years two picks for any of these guys
Drew Gooden, Josh Childress, Tyrus Thomas, Amir Johnson, Andre Blatche, Anderson Varejeo or Al Harrington.
"I think I’m the best point guard in the league. No reason. I just think I’m the best.’’-Deron Williams.
I think Josh Childress and Hakim Warrick
for Travis Outlaw and Jordan Farmar is good trade.
"I think I’m the best point guard in the league. No reason. I just think I’m the best.’’-Deron Williams.
so you want to give up on Kris Humphries who just turned 26 and had his best season of his career and put up 15+boards a night post all star. For David West who turns 31 this offseason and just tore an ACL in his left knee without knowing how he’s going to recover or even opt out of his contract now after the injury?
McGrady who hasn’t been the same caliber player to start in a couple reasons and everyone saw when some people in NY believed he was going to have turnaround there. Had a decent season in Detroit and might be a good bench player if he don’t decline more. He turns 32 this year. Morrow turns 26 and has one of the best 3 pt shots in the league which is huge because it opens the floor. Started to improve his offensive game towards end of season from just a spot up shooter when Avery trusted him and put him in iso plays. Showed a nice turnaround j near the baseline and had a pretty high percentage on that floater he always put up. I say lets see what he comes back with after this summer before we say he can’t start anymore.
Hump/Morrow still have potential and room to improve, You already know what players West and T Mac already are and their on the wrong side of 30. Like someone said, big name players aren’t always the answer and especially when their older players and on the decline.
Farmar and Petro for Rip
OUTLAW > BROOK'S SHOE
Sorry
I was under the impression that Outlaw was untradeable. I can’t see any GM trading for him unless its for a worse player on a worse contract. Outlaw brings nothing to the table. Charlie V is arguably better and is getting paid less.
OUTLAW > BROOK'S SHOE
Charlie V Is not getting paid less
He is 2 years into a 5yr. $40 million deal.
Am I missing something
Outlaw has 4 years @ $7 mil left. ($28 mil)
Charlie V (11-12) $7,540,000, (12-13) $8,060,000, (13-14) $8,580,000(Player Option) ($24.1 mil) Looks like less to me… I might be wrong, but I doubt it.
OUTLAW > BROOK'S SHOE

D WILL said he wants some vets and talant
As carazy as it might sound but Nets in very good shape to get players like Iggy and Gay the reasons why is Iggy wants to play in a team that conteds not that building for future, Mem as i heard the rumars they would rather resign M Gasol than keep Gay in addition OJ would fit better than Gay and wont damend ball so if B King make a trade my line up would look like this:
D WILL-Gaines
Iggy-outlaw
Gay- Ak
Hump-wright
Lopez-J Collins
by Aidar Berlinbayev on May 14, 2011 11:57 PM EDT reply actions
love it
I would love to get those guys, only problem is, we dont really have much to offer for them… would you honestly take farmar and james for iggy? lol Then what’s left to offer for Gay?
A more realistic lineup
The cap probably would be way over if we had all those players.
Lopez – J collins (Great idea)
Hump – Wright – Justin Harper
Gay – Outlaw – Justin Harper
Morrow – Marshon Brooks
Dwill – Gains
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
Well, you see.. Its call magic, and umm I'll explain it later I just have a plethora of papers to go through and its very hard stuff to decipher.
(Refined)
Lopez – Collins
Hump – Wright – Harper
AK47 – Harper
VC – Morrow – Brooks
Dwill – Gaines
Trade Farmar and James for a 1st/2nd round pick next year. Simply cause I see lots of potential in Harper and Brooks I think its worth the risk considering how much talent is there at starting lineup.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
Something else, I wouldn't mind VC cheap for 2-3 years, but he's not a FA till after the 2012 season.
Everyone brings him up like he is available now. Am I missing something? Seriously, I am asking….
PHX has a team option
They can cut him and save like $14M of his salary next year, so it’s pretty safe to say he’ll be a FA this offseason.
;D
Its the Nets, he probably won’t ask for much to come back. But if the price is $7mill + nty
Still that lineup with any of the SG’s that have been named, with JR smith being the exception I’ll be complacent.
Petro may very well still be our back up center, so I’m really starting to think our first option is try to get Dwight in the off season and if its a no-no, then we trade for Villa, and Rip. Maybe then we can look for a back up center after that because I don’t see any center I’d like to pick around our pick.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
In a perfect scenario, both VC and AK would come for under 5 mil, leaving us room to resign Hump
and an inexpensive big. We can try to package a pick with Petro and or Farmar in a trade.
They can and should keep humphries
if they are able to upgrade the wings via trade. Any trade for one of the memphis wings (gay or mayo) and then signing a prince, makes humphries a good player to have at the 4. the problem with him given our current players, is he cant create on offense (ZBO), and isnt a lights out mid range shooter (like west).
Address the wings, that is the key. A Humph lite, to come off the bench on cheap would be nice too, as our bigs depth is pathetic.
Rudy Gay - F - Grizzlies
There is a “belief around the league” that Rudy Gay is available via trade for the right price, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Gay, whose season ended due to shoulder surgery, is owed $68 million over the next four years. The Grizzlies’ success without him this postseason, coupled with their need to pay Marc Gasol as a restricted FA, could prompt them to unload Gay this summer.
Price
What do you guys think the price for Rudy Gay will be ( in terms of our assets)? I think Rudy Gay would be an excellent fit and if there is any cap space left over- we should sign Nene to play the 4.
Dwill/
Morrow?
Gay
Nene
Lopez
Me too, minus Nene. We don't need Nene, he will cost too much and Humphries like I've already said before avged 15ppg and 15rpg with D-Will on this team
Why would we need Nene when he can be had at a lower price and Kim Kardashian is another “+”
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
i agree about humphries… except he’d probably be included in the package for Rudy Gay dont you think? Im thinking at least jordan farmar+humphries and then some for rudy gay…then you need to look for a replacement 4
No!!! Thats like the best offer possible :*(
No one can match that.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
not necessarily
it could be an odd future.
I’ll be here all week.
World Series attitude, champagne bottle life, nothing every changes so tonight is like tomorrow night.
Bkfire has made an interesting trade proposal
Rip and Charlie for Outlaw and Petro/Farmar
Dwill, Rip, Lopez would be good. Rip running off screnes with a pass first PG. This could be a rejunivated RIP. Charlie has always killed us. Another shot with a stretch 4 off the bench. He is better then outlaw because he has 3 pt range. Yeah this hurts our cap this year, but it is better we wait next year for howard anyway. Now we have to find out what RIPs contract is for 2012 because Shamsports is saying that it isnt fully guaranteed. So if this happens
RIP $12.5 mill
Charlie $8 mill + $20.5
FOR
Outlaw $7 mil
Petro $3.5 mil = $10.5 + $10 of our cap space = $9 mil left in cap space
If Farmar/Wright and anyone else not named Dwill, Morrow, and Lopez, I would still do it.
I would rather do this then sign any of the FAs available to get ? marks like the signing of outlaw.
Now what will hurt us is Humps price. If he really just wants to stay in the area, then hopefully the asking price is $7 mill or less. If not, need to find a way to be under the cap next year for Howard, so Hump might be the casualty here.

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, but isn't VC making like 17 mil per till the end of next season?
He’s not available for the proposed amount of money everyone is suggesting. Is there something I am missing?
Nope.
It’s a team option according to HoopsHype. I can assure you the Suns don’t pick that up and he becomes a free agent.

Maybe we take our chances with VC and AK - the rest of the guys are young.
They bring some veteran leadership, playoff experience.
Kinda random question but when VC was in Orlando, did Dwight Howard like the guy? If yes, well its another reason for him to head to Brooklyn.
I’d like that scenario too, then all they’d need to do is find a legitimate backup C.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
They come cheap and we make the playoffs. When other guys see what we do adding just a couple of vets,
they’ll come. We’ll either have a deeper bench or have some more guys to package in trades.
So.....
Deron/Farmar/Gaines
VC/Morrow/Brooks
AK/James/Outlaw/Harper or
Hump/Martin/AK/Harper
Lopez/McRoberts/Petro
We try and move Farmar, Petro, obvoiusly Outlaw -maybe it takes a pick or both to move these guys, then so be it. Remove the picks from the equation. We’ve got 2 next year.
by bkfire on May 15, 2011 8:23 PM EDT reply actions 2 recs
This is probably one of the more realistic predictions I've seen on here
The only thing I honestly would change is getting Kenyon Martin. He’s older, and is not as effective as he once was, the Nets should use McRoberts at the 4, and get a cheap veteran to play the 5. Keep Farmar also, very good off the bench for this team
Deron Williams/Jordan Farmar/Sundiata Gaines
Vince Carter/Anthony Morrow/Marshon Brooks
Andrei Kirilenko/Damion James/Travis Outlaw
Kris Humphries/Josh McRoberts/Justin Harper
Brook Lopez/Nazr Mohammed?/Johan Petro
That team right there, combines youth, with athleticism, and great depth. Great shooting, defense, and excitement. Marshon can be a really good defender and I think he can be one of those late round guys who can blow up. Harper is very talented as well, has a good J. AK brings versatility, toughness, grit, and defense, and can mentor young Damion, and McRoberts is pretty solid and young, and will eventually get a lot better. And VC is that veteran presence that can still bring it and makes more sense than overpaying for these restricted wings. Solid plan brother
by JerseysFinest. on May 15, 2011 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Well played. I think Martin is athletic enough and he brings a toughness and attitude that we could use.
Nazir will come cheaper though. That’s a solid playoff team that will attract other guys when they see what we’ve done in a year.
Still I like Gaines more than Farmar
I’d take a risk and trade Morrow, Farmar, Petro, and maybe a pick for a SF. Perhaps gay, then this would mean Marshon Brooks would get more PT and become the next Kobe ;D
So this answers your question bkfire lol.
Deron Williams / Gaines /
Vince Carter / Brooks
Rudy Gay / James / Outlaw
Kris Humphries / Harper /
Brook Lopez / Any Center better than Petro at a good price
( McRoberts is fine, Mohammed would be amazing if he is a free agent)
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
Crap, Harper is better at SF...
So yes Mcroberts at PF would still be a good idea. Evaluating your lineup having VC and Morrow just doesn’t allow Brooks to have enough minutes. This may not be the most realistic idea, but its a great idea to trade Morrow if we do get VC and Brooks.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
Harper can play both the 3 and 4 well
Has very good lateral quickness for a big man and can shoot also.
There is really no way the Nets can get Gay. Even if they are playing better without him, doesn’t mean they are going to dump him, let alone for a package consisting of Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, and Johan Petro. They can get a much better offer than that anyway.
The reason the Nets would be able to keep all three of those guys is because a, Vince is very unselfish. He would sacrifice his minutes for the better of the team. And b, depth. Say Brooks actually does blow up and looks like a stud. VC would take the bench role. Say AK47 and Damion get injured. VC starts at the 3, Morrow starts at the 2. Having excellent depth helps you win games in this league. Nets could even transition Marshon in through the Armor, and when they see he’s ready bring him in. Same with Harper.
by JerseysFinest. on May 15, 2011 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Harper doesn't rebound good enough to play the 4 at the NBA level. He can probably play against some soft players
like the Bosh’s and Gasols, but not Iblocka or big guys like Bass. Now that you mentioned the depth we’d have that’d be a great team. A package like that for Gay isn’t even wroth considering. Sounds like a good plan. AK will be injury prone anyways throughout the season and James, and Harper will get plenty of time to prove themselves.
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success

hahaha! I always viewed Harper as a SF in the NBA.
That line up above gives us a lot of flexibiltiy and mismatches for other teams. In case of injuries, we’ve got some good coverage.
You said that package for Rudy
Actually, the chances of the Nets maybe getting him just rose a bit today, with the news that Memphis is worried about keeping Gasol. I think they have to value him over Rudy to an extent, him and Randolph form a formidable frontline that give opposing teams a lot of problems. Battier produced for them, and he’ll presumably stay there. I don’t know what the Nets would give, but it’d be very interesting to see if they could acquire him, and keep Humphries.
by JerseysFinest. on May 16, 2011 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Problems with the Gay to NJ theory while keeping Brook...
1) Gay was exactly what Memphis was missing to get by OKC.
2) About 8 to 10 other teams will offer incredibly better then anything we can.
by vincecarter4pres on May 16, 2011 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree. Aaaand, if Mayo isn't moved, he and Allen have the SG position locked, They won't need Morrow.
I used to think they would take Farmar and a pick for Mayo, but Vasq, IMO, may have changed that. The could use another big, but Petro alone won’t cut it.
We may be able to offer Petro and a pick for Mayo – they almost sent him to Indiana for Mcroberts and a pick.
sf's:
Gay,Granger,Iggy,Wilson,JR,Thornton,VC,Nick Young
why the helsliabndajn would we take Ak-47 hes horrible our offense is horrible we need one of the scorers above even with Dwight so please stop wit the AK’s in your stupid little starting lineups cause billy kings getting a prolific scorer period
very interesting HelloMelo
I think your just upset that you were wrong about Melo and now your stuck with his name in your login. First off, AK47 is in everyones starting lineup because hes the most realistic signing available to us. Most of the names you mentioned would have to be traded for. If we complete a Dwight Howard trade i honestly dont think we will have anything to offer for any of the players via trade. I also dont think any of those players are any better then AK47 in the sense of what they will provide to the team. Sure VC is a superstar and can shoot lights out AT TIMES, sure Rudy Gay hs a great scorer and very young, sure Wilson, Thornton and Young have great upside because they are so young and talented. But you have to see the big picture as presented to us RIGHT NOW.
AK47 has ties to Prohky, he has stated publicly that money isnt important to him because he has enough and he has said that the Nets are very interesting to him. Cap stability is important, i think the fact that he is willing to take a pay cut is major selling point.
VC – old and in decline. Had a decent season but that can be attributed to the fact that it was a contract year.
Iggy – Paid like a superstar but performs like a role player. Not worth the contract. His contract will only hurt us and we wont perform up to it. He has the Gilbert Arenas syndrome, deminished skills.
JR – thug who will get into trouble.
I like the idea of Gay, Granger, Wilson and Nick Young. They bring upside. But realistically they ideal signing will be AK47 until other things develop. There are no reports of any of these players wanting to even be a part of the Nets as far as i know. Gay said he liked the Nets but just signed a max deal last season to stay in Memphis. Is he even worth a max deal is another question?
Still if you look at the stats on the paper Prince is a great choice
+He won’t command as much as any of those players listed with AK47 being the exception
+Isn’t as injury prone as Kirilenko who only played 63 games
+Is a better scorer
Kirilenko
+Is better at almost everything else:passing, rebounds, steals.
+235lbs vs 215lbs
+Younger by 1 year
Yes we should definitely give a look to all the outcomes of getting Gay/Granger/Chandler/maybe Young and if not then Prince, if not then Kirilenko is an almost failsafe option. But your argument (HelloMelo) about him being horrible on offense is irrelevant.
Before D-will trade Nets avged 92pts per game after the trade the average was 100ppg. I know it was over a short span of the season but if you just add a legitimate SG, vet or not then our bench will be productive with Gaines/Morrow/James/Brandan Wright? perhaps/ Petro?
Petro + Williams = Blueprint for success
I'll take Granger and his contract. Just don't know if we have the players. Maybe Morrow, James and 2 picks - one from this year and one from next year.
Aside from the picks, which all teams always want, they can put Morrow at the SGand slide Paul George to SF with James backing him up. If we can find a way to get Dahntay Jones with that trade, play him at SG for defense.
The Indy owner keeping Bird and the gm tells me he is happy with the direction of the team
making a Granger trade highly unlikely.
Happy to see Billy King graduated in an accelerated "how to make a trade" class in just one night :)
VC
Is a much better option than T-Mac. The Nets should sign VC and AK47 because both will come fairly cheap and will be the type of veterans the Nets need to add. They need to re-sign Humphries and draft a PF. If they are going to re-sign Sasha for a reasonable price that’s fine. The other major need is a backup C, maybe someone like Jason Collins who can play solid D against bigger centers and in matchups against smaller teams you can put Petro in.
PG: D-Will/Farmar/Gaines
SG: VC/Morrow/Sasha
SF: AK47/Outlaw/Draft
PF: Humphries/Draft/Outlaw
C: Lopez/Collins/Petro
