This isn't a Nets MUST SIGN AK47 thread, although it'd be totally sweet if they did. I just thought I'd give AK 47 some individual love, since everyone's currently making fun of his epic World of Warcraft back tattoo, but also because I believe his value is highly under reported. Check it out:
According to 82games, Kirilenko posted PERs of 17.2(SF) and 18.6(PF) this season, which just means he's a very solid rotation player at two different spots. Cool. That places him at the top of the middle of the pack at two spots.
Even cooler- Kirilenko's opponent counterpart posted PERs of 12.2(SF) and 14.1(PF). There are guys like Thaddeus Young, who are more efficient than Kirilenko at one spot(20.7) but only Wilson Chandler matches his net PER at SF(4.9). Kirilenko is an above average defender at two spots.
Think about that. Travis Outlaw is a net zero at two spots. Brook Lopez can't be stopped inside of 10 feet, but can't stop anyone, anywhere. I am pretty sure Machine threw up a minus 26 more than once this season. Anthony Morrow is a talented shooter with no foot speed. Stephen Graham...
Look, I can't predict what the Nets are planning this offseason, but AK47 would be at the top of my list. His ability to play multiple spots well on both ends would mitigate Travis Outlaw and Johan Petro's abominable contracts and inability to play well on either end. His steady veteran presence at two spots would allow you to give minutes to young, raw guys with less consequence, meaning the team would be both competitive AND developing in the near future, and he would upgrade offensive chemistry and defense inside and out, with his length on the perimeter and weakside shot blocking.
