Looking at this draft, obviously, it's not all that promising. And have a late first round pick doesn't bode so well either. So I was wondering, is there a team the Nets can trade or buy a pick from and move up in the draft for? I think the ideal team is the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets already have a good young team. They have Yao's $17 million coming off the the books and will most likely resign Chuck Hayes. They are also pretty deep in almost all their positions, so they will be drafting on best available instead of need. I would suggest, Farmar for their 14th pick? Nets may be able to package their 2nd round pick also.
Now I know, the 14th pick is a lottery pick, but I think come the end of the season, Farmar is the one Nets player who's trade value actually increased. If the Rockets really don't view the pick as real value, then they may be willing to take Farmar who will upgrade their backup PG position. Right now they have Goran Drajic, and they probably won't pick up his option.
The Nets can find value in the 14th pick. Either draft a guy like Faried, or it can be used as part of another trade, packaged with the 26th picked and DJames and cash for say Granger or Iguodala.
I think Houston may be the team more willing to give up their pick for some of better value than what they may get in the draft and fill a position of need instead of best available.
Of course, this is all based if they lottery plays out for them as it should and they stay at 14.
