The Nets, not satisfied with tweaking the Knicks in Times Square, have set up billboards along Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn and will be putting up ads on telephone kiosks. Next month it will be promotional spots on television. Like the Times Square ad, the billboards feature Deron Williams and "Welcome to Brooklyn".
"We want to give the borough not only a building to call their home, a team to root for and now an NBA all star to root for," said Fred Mangione, chief marketing officer for the Nets.
Meanwhile, consultants hired by Barclays Center bondholders report the arena is still "slightly ahead of schedule" with a "substantial completion" anticipated for August 27, 2012, a month before opening night.
