Where would everyone rate Brook among "true" NBA centers. I say definitely top 5...possibly as high as #2 or #3.
The reason I ask is that why are so many people down on him or quick to offer trade ideas? Brook has his deficiencies - we all know what they are. However, he is a VERY skilled offensive player. He's probably the most complete offensive center in the entire league. He also has a "go-to" move...which is important in this league, especially for centers (that move that is hard to stop even when you know its coming - which is important in crunch time).
Brook has show promise on defense and rebounding, putting up some games like he did in London. So, he shows he can do it - now its just doing it on a consistant basis. Remember, he's only in his 3rd season, so the defense can be learned. He doesn't have to be a Love (or even Hump) on the boards, just has to hold his own because his offense is THAT good.
One thing that seems to be overlooked here is that he's pretty clutch - hitting lots of key shots in the 4th quarter (although he's had some FT shooting issues late in games at times). He is not the problem this team has had the last couple of years...as is evident by his INCREASED performance once Dwill arrived (i.e. his game can improve even more with the right people surrounding him). He also has had some big games against good teams. Even though his stats are good, those intangibles are even better and VERY difficult to find.
Finally, he was drafted by the Nets. Why would people want to root for good, homegrown talent? I for one would much rather root for Brook then trade him for just about anyone (probably even Howard) because we CAN definitely win with him and it will be even sweeter with a player that has gone through the system.
So, let me know why all the hate for Brook? He can improve rebounding...sure, but he has also show that he has the ability to do it (which is what I'd be more concerned about). He's also shown the ability to be the "go-to" guy, a 4th quarter player, and probably the most complete offensive center in the league. I really think Brook is the type of guy that you'll appreciate even more when he's gone because, even though he has his deficiencies, he's a HUGE upgrade over most/the "average" center. Wait until you're starting a Joel Anthony or Turiaff and you'll see what I mean (even if you have players like the Knicks and Heat do surrounding them). Why all the hate?
