Who is the best point guard in the league right now?
Many people say Deron is arguably the best point guard in the league, and I think so.
But who are the other young candidates?
Rose, IMO, is a great scorer, but not really a play maker, he can drive and dish, but he is not a floor general. Not really a great passer. He likes to score more than dishing the ball.
Westbrook is almost as good as Rose, a better rebounder, passer, but lesser scorer.
Rondo is a good play maker, but he is too bad at shooting.
John Wall is a turnover machine, and he doesn't know how to shoot yet.
Chris Paul has a pair of bad knees, he is not that great anymore.
Tony Parker is just like that, his limit is reached, and he will probably not be improved.
Deron is a very good passer, has a great court vision, killer instinct, crazy crossover, and he is very strong to play down load.
So who is the best point guard in your mind? Let's discuss it.
Will John Wall be better than Rose? How do you think about Westbrook and Rose? please compare both.

There are only 3 candidates
Rose, Paul and Deron
Paul is the best pure point guard of the bunch. He runs an offense like no one else in the entire NBA, often forgoing shots early on to get his teammates involved. However, his knee injury has hampered his used to be amazing first step, forcing him to rely on smarts and dribbling ability rather than athleticism and driving the the rim less than he ever has. In late game situations, he just wasn’t the amazing player he was 2 years ago.
Rose is not as pure of a point guard as Deron, but his sheer production and ability to carry his entire team on his back has him as the best point guard in the league for me. He’s improved his defense and three point shooting, two notable deficiencies that were still present last year. He’s one of the leading MVP candidates for a reason.
derrick rose is mvp candidate right now over all the pgs so he is in lead
he is a great scorer and underrated playmaker as well, he is carrying that bulls team to 3rd place with injuries to noah and boozer
he is mvp candidate along with lebron
rose
parker,
deron
cp3
rondo
westbrook
He is in the lead because he is a great scorer
Not because he is a good PG. I actually would consider him a SG in a PG’s body but that’s just me. BTW Dwight is the top MVP candidate. He does just about everything. rose doesn’t play D
That's the thing
People will argue that Rondo is an amazing point guard, but i’d be interested to see him in a different system. Right now he is in Boston with three future hall of famers and surrounded by scorers. Don’t get me wrong he is a great playmaker, passer and defender but his offensive game is very limited so he would be pretty useless on a team like the Nets, who need Deron to be their main threat on offense.
That being said, Derrick Rose couldn’t do what Rondo does because he lacks the same playmaking or passing ability, the same for Russell Westbrook. As far as Parker goes, I don’t think he’s really in the discussion at the moment, but that may be because Ginobili is playing so well
I don’t really see there being a clear number one in terms of Point Guards in the league. I think you have to group DWill, CP3, Rose and Rondo together and just admire them all as they all possess strengths and weaknesses over the other. Like Jaydee said, it comes down to your personal preference and where you place scoring, playmaking, passing and winning on your list of criteria.
Let's see...
CP3- Bad knees, no scorers on team
D-WIll- Bad wrist, some key shooters (Morrow,Sasha)
Rondo- Greta players around him
Rose- I think overrated.
With the players around him I think we have the best PG in the league- Deron Williams
If he had what Rondo had he would be legandery.
Brook Lopez+ D-Will+ Mikhail+ Avery+ Brooklyn=Championship

Rose overrated?
That’s like saying Outlol is underrated.
Rose is a stud
Carrying Chicago on his backs. He has taken that team to another level. The fact that he has added the 3 to his arsenal makes him almost unguardable.
He is not the purest PG in the league, but hes one of the top 10 players by far and a leading MVP candidate- and only getting better.
Nets 2011- looking forward to the lottery- again
to be honest derrick rose is a rich mans harris
Stronger, and more of a leader, but very similar game
Still CP3
Similar to Rondo in that he has a great assist/TO ratio and steals the ball a lot, but is a vastly better shooter than RR. Yes, even with his crappy knees: before the knees were hurt he was the best PG since Magic. DWill is close, but a little behind in steals and TOs. Rose doesn’t pass as well as the others, which is what makes a PG a PG.
Can coaches be sent to the D-League?

I would say it's between Rose, Deron, and CP3
If I had to chose between the 3 I would list them in this order
Rose
D-Will
CP3
The reason I put D-Will over CP3 is CP3’s injuries and the reason I put Rose over them both of them is his great production this year.

you guys are soo wrong about wall... me personaly i think wall willl be the best player in the nba i mean this is a rookie and has a way better court vision then rose........
wall could be so much better if he was on a better team i mean he has the worst player around him in the NBA. look at rose #s in his rookie year they are not that good either as a matter of fact i think walls are better eventhough he is injured
im sure wall is going to be an all star
and yes his team is bad but rose is an absolute stud right now,
Where is Steve Nash on that list? IMO, he’s the best pure point guard in the league at running an offense. Amazing efficiency and longevity.
But I agree, Deron is now the best overall PG in the league (all things considered). CP3 used to be better though but he hasn’t been the same since injury/Byron Scott left.
Rose is a legit MVP candidate but
It’s hard to see him as the best PG in the league because of his playing style and attributes. He simply doesn’t have the passing skills and the court vision of elite PGs like Deron, Nash or Paul. That’s not to say that Rose can’t pass; you don’t get 8 assists per game while being a bad passer. But like the OP said, he can drive and dish but you won’t see him making great passes like Deron, Nash or Paul do.
If...
…Deron had the team Rondo has he would be the Best PG in the history of the NBA. If Rondo had the team that D-Will has he would be forgotten and lost. That says Deron WIlliams= Best PG in NBA (For Now)
