The Memphis Grizzlies are in a really tough situation with their salaries. They just signed Gay to a 5 year, $82 million dollar contract, Mike Conley makes $30 million over 6 years, and both Marc Gasol and Zach are free agents. Gasol makes $3.5, which is sure to go up (at least double, maybe more), and Zach makes $17m, which will go down but still be a big number. They're losing Battier ($7.3), but will they be able to pay Conley and Gay and extend Randolph and Gasol? Reports say Zach will be extended (reports can be wrong, as we've seen). If Memphis has to choose between keeping Randolp/Gasol together and trading Gay, or keeping Gay and trading one of the other 2, what would they do? From what I've seen watching them, the Zach/Gasol pair seems to be heart of the team.
Of course, it all depends on the new collective bargaining agreement, but would Memphis consider Damion James, Outlaw & a #1 for Gay? Of course not (talentwise), but financially they may be willing to do it.
