Game 73 - Nets vs. Rockets - Tuesday, March 29, 7:00

The Rockets are fighting hard for a playoff spot, 2 1/2 games behind the Grizzlies for the eighth spot in the west. At 38-35, they need every win.  Their cause will be helped by the Nets' infirmary report: Deron Williams, Damion James, Sundiata Gaines and Quinton Ross are definitely out.  Brandan Wright (sore knee) didn't practice Monday and is day-to-day. If they lose, it will be the 50th time this season.

Houston, which has won 12 of 16 while averaging 109.1 points, is led by Kevin Martin. They lost to the Heat on Sunday. "Now the challenge is responding in New Jersey," coach Rick Adelman told the Rockets' official website. "We gave what we could and came up short and now you've got to regroup and try to come back and get that game Tuesday and go from there."

Kyle Lowry is likely out. Terrence Williams, who hasn't played much since being traded in December, underwent minor abdominal surgery on March 15, but has been experiencing "post-operative issues" since, the Rockets official site reports.

TWill

If he weren’t a head case, he would have gotten major minutes this year, had he been kept in Newark. It is a shame wasting such talent. How long will it take, if ever, for TWill to get his act together? It’s a crying shame.

I like where Houston is...

They can make the playoffs next season, but not have that high of a pick.. perfect.

Some playoff teams in the West could be out…

NOH – West injured, Paul in his contract year
Denver – a lot of free agents..inc. JR, Afflalfo, Gallo, Chandler, K.Mart
Memphis – Uncertainty with Randolph and Gasol, Conley is suspect as is their situation with Maoy. Also, for whatever reason, I can see Rudy Gay as chronically injured player. He doesn’t seem very strong and he plays rather fluid yet awkward at the same time.

And of those below them

Utah – as long as Harris is their PG, I wouldn’t worry about them.
Phoenix may trade Nash and they will be awful without him.
GSW – It’s GS.
LAC – They’re LAC, but if they have good karma for a season, and things go well, or too potential, hey can sneak in.

Next year’s draft should be nice.. though sadly I’m warming to some players in this one that I don’t think we’ll be able to get.

Very sloppy play

if we beat them on Wednesday, which I doubt since I dunno if Williams will play and we are already decimated by injuries, the media will riot.

you think we have enough money to scare away Philly and Denver (chandler), and SAC? We would have to trade Farmar and Petro though.

by danxcr on Mar 29, 2011 1:13 AM EDT up reply actions

No.

Even getting rid of Farmar and Petro would only leave the Nets with 24 million in cap space.

6 million is devoted to Hump’s bird rights.

I don’t think 18 million would be enough to scare away all three teams and, even if it was, that would be really excessive.

With 18 million in cap, you could probably get 2 of the 3.

Williams/Gaines
Thornton/Morrow
Chandler or Young/James
Hump/Outlaw
Lopez/Pick?

I would take that lineup but we are weak at the backup 4. Would definitely have to Draft Faried.

I don't know, but the Nets like him so I listed his stat line.

Personally, I think Green is overrated as hell and could be an Outlaw-esque signing.

but just because he isn’t a true point guard doesn’t make him any less of a superstar player. He had a rough game like all stars do

Great

On Wednesday, the Knicks will be coming off of a gutty win, while the Nets are on the tail end of a back to back. Several of our rotation players are hurt, and we don’t even know for sure if DWill’s playing.

What a game to be nationally televised. I can just see the Nets hater comments coming.

by RecSpecs on Mar 29, 2011 12:08 AM EDT reply actions

yea great win

…NOT. They had to go to overtime vs. an Orlando team without Jameer Nelson playing. Not to mention Orlando is basically stuck at the 4 spot, winning and losing games for them now are just to improve and get ready for the playoffs. Knicks needs this one 10x more than Orlando, and Orlando almost had the game.

by lemmetakeutodamovies on Mar 29, 2011 12:55 AM EDT up reply actions

that was the first game in 9 days

that the Knicks played defense. Melo put the team on his back last night and carried them to a win. Stoudemire was totally frozen out of the offense but he also looked like he was running on fumes. He was getting worked on the defensive end by Dwight.

But if that’s what they have to do to win every night, they will be torn apart in the 1st rd. Very sloppy, but gutsy win. I give them credit.

I wish we were healthy when we were playing them. I think with our full squad intact we’d beat them.

the game was horribly officiated

There is no reason for a ref to miss something like that. That should have been at the LEAST a double foul, or a double technical. Tripping each other like little girls has no place in basketball.

That Knick game was atrocious and Knick fans have the nerve to think they did something. Also Nelson wasnt playing and he always kills the Knicks. Gilbert Arenas is god awful, Otis Smith should have kept the original team.

I hope the Nets bring the energy to the garden. That win would shut Knick fans up until they crawl into the playoffs.

because humphries is the only dude that lifts and takes cares of his body

lifting weights, cardio, fat burning, etc just doesnt make you stronger but it makes you more resilient to injuries and your body is more durable. frail guys like devin and wright you can tell never lift weights. a guy like durant actually tries to bulk up and take care of his body and he has seldon git hurt save for a couple of twisted ankles

Read this piece on Ammo by colin stephenson

D-will apparently likes him, he’s a keeper surely now……

"I’ve only played with one other shooter similar to him and that’s Kyle Korver, a guy that’s just a dead-eye 3-point shooter," Nets point guard Deron Williams said. "Guys like that are a point guard’s dream, because you’re pretty much mad when they miss."

I just read it too.

One thing is for sure, in the Kidd era we didnt have this type of marksman. I would be a mistake to trade this guy unless it is for Dwight Howard. Morrow coming off the bench and hitting 3s would be the best thing for this team.
