First off, we just got one of the best players in the NBA the best PG in my opinion. Can we just take a week or two and be happy?
That being said, around these boards countless people(including myself) were simply begging for an end to the melo-drama whether we got him or not, we all just wanted it to be over. Now, everyone wants to jump back into the same situation with Dwight Howard. We need to be more realistic, the way the NBA is evolving the way we acquired DWILL was very rare. In the new NBA players of D12's calibre don't often move teams without major drama following them. (see LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Carmello Anthony, Chris Paul) With Deron Williams being the recent exception.
However, obviously entering the Dwight-drama would be well worth it if we come away with the prize. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone can argue the odds are against us. These suggestions we shouldn't make moves for guys like David West to save cap space for D12 are preposterous. We want to ensure Deron re-signs and if we go all in on D12 and don't get him then what? We would surely lose Dwill in that case because we didn't improve our team. If it's meant to be with Dwight, we can make lopsided trades to clear capspace and do whatever it takes to get him.
The point of this post is, we cant sit around and do nothing praying that Dwight comes here because like it or not, based on simple math (there are 29 other teams in the nba) its more likely than not that he signs elsewhere. If the Nets can sign David West this offseason, that is a huge step in the right direction. A core of Dwill, Lopez, and West is an immediate playoff team in the east that can be dangerous come poststeason with a few other lesser additions.
So Nets fans, Lets (for now) be happy we got Deron, and let the rest happen, if an allstar calibre player(David West) wants to come play for the Nets, lets make it happen.
