Will the Real Net Fans Please Stand Up

Less than one week after acquiring Deron Williams on the New Jersey Nets the fans have a growing fascination with the possibility of pairing him with the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard. Personally I find it kind of sickening. First it was the Lebron Decision. Then it was the Melo-Drama and finally we got our man in Deron. But instead of simply celebrating his arrival and how he will make everyone on this team better. We have become obsessed with trading Brook Lopez, who has been the best player on the team before Deron got here for another player.

Star-divide

Where is the loyalty. Where is the love for the Current Nets. I know that we went 12-70 last year and most of us want to erase any memory we have of that season which apparently includes Brook. But the trade deadline has already passed so can we please talk about something other than trades. It seems like we talk about players on other teams more then we do about our own nets players.  I understand that there will be more changes made to the team to satisfy Deron and we are all excited about the future but Brook should be a part of our future. He should be rewarded for carrying us through our toughest seasons. He should have a chance to build us into a champion playing with the best PG and focus on turning himself into the best center. Let’s take care of home before we go flirting with the mistress.

There are so many other questions that have to be answered  before the CBA comes along which could potentially change everything we currently know about free agency and trades not to mention the cap which I am certain will be altered.

What are we going to do with our players currently under contract? Does Humphries deserve to be resigned and if so will it be as a future reserve or a glue guy type starter? Will we bring back the machine if he takes a pay cut? Will we ever get rid of Outlaw’s contract? Is D. James the SF of the future for this team? Has Ben Uzoh progressed to the point that he makes Farmar dispensable? Could Brendan Wright play up to the level people thought he would when drafted or is he simply here to provide cap relief with his expiring contract. How can we get GrahaMVP more touches?

The last one was a joke but the other questions are ones that I am much more interested in then just trying to figure out whether Dwight (a free agent in 2012) will join the team Next season or possibly the season after that. This season is still going on and the playoffs are a long shot but mathematically still possible. As fans we should never stop believing as long as it is still a possibility. So Net Nation I ask you to please leave all of the hoopla alone and let us focus on hoops.

Was just about to make a similar post

Great post! Everyone needs to be a little more realistic, while I would love the addition of Dwight Howard(who wouldnt?) the chances are not great. As of now, i’m just happy we got Deron!! The suggestions we shouldnt go after free agents this year because it would tie up cap space for D12 are ridiculous. If we can get david west this offseason, we shouldn’t hesitate. We cant bank our entire future on D12, if we get no one in free agency and strike out with D12 there is 0 chance Dwill will resign. and lets face it, the odds of us getting D12 are against us

I actually dont want to trade Brook, instead move him to the four. Sure he’ll get beaten by players who can shoot or are faster than him, but thats happening already!

So do you want us to give back Deron for Favors and Harris so that we can be true and loyal fans?

Hey, we don’t need players from other teams, we don’t need to get better, what we need is to stick with our current guys even if that means forgoing a deal that would make us better. That way we’re good and loyal fans who love our team and our players

The one trade that went through for Deron

was one that we didnt sit here and talk for months about. Billy King has proved that he is a good GM can we let him do his job and do our job as fans and cheer for the team that is playing now.

wiat til it worked out for BOS with trading Perkins before using it as comparison

the thunder analogy would be better but…

overall i agree with your post

I am a real Nets. As such, I want them to win a championship.

I love Brook and appreciate what he’s done for the Nets, but if someone out there gives the Nets a better chance of getting a championship, I would hope loyalty would not factor into their decision making.

no we get howard we’re instantley that much better, if we can trade lopez in an extend and trade you do it `and build around them

by mjf900 on Feb 26, 2011 1:09 PM EST reply actions

When you say Brook Lopez carried us their our toughest seasons...

do you mean that he should be rewarded for leading this team to a 12-70 record?

by The Chair of Knowledge on Feb 26, 2011 1:11 PM EST reply actions

Just because you aren't are real Nets fan and don't care about this team coming seasons...

doesn’t mean we don’t. thats why we talk about the possibility of Dwight Howard because we’re real nets fans and we want to see this team become better

by The Chair of Knowledge on Feb 26, 2011 1:13 PM EST reply actions

The Knicks comparison come up yet again

A lot of Knicks fans didn’t want to trade for Melo. Because they thought that their team would be better of without him. But that’s stupid, because that team would have gotten them into the playoffs, but not much farther. Will this Melo trade do the trick? I don’t know, but it’s sure as heck better than their old team. They’re legitimately in the running for a championship.

In the same boat as that, no one that we can pick up this offseason will make us a championship contender. And with Brook’s extension, we will no longer have cap space of any kind. This team plain and simple will not win seriously contend for a championship. David West or anyone this offseason will not change that.

You have made your point on this subject numerous times in other post

Do you care to provide an answer to one of the other questions that i asked in this post.

People the point of this post wasnt to talk about trading or arguing about it

It was to stop talking about it and focus on other issues. Did you even read the second half of the article. You are jus proving my point. When we move to brooklyn jus change the name to the Brooklyn Dwight Howareds because thats all we are going to hear about until then….

by bettacalltyrone on Feb 26, 2011 1:15 PM EST reply actions

by saying lets not talk about dwight howard is like saying lets not talk about becoming better, and just accept that we are bad

Real Nets fan since 1989

After trading Big Disney to the Magic for Dwight Howard, I’ll give Brook Lopez a couple of free Disney World tickets. I live in Florida now so I can get tickets for cheap.

You might remember LeBron and Carmelo getting excoriated for stabbing their respective teams in the back. You want to know why they didn’t care? Because, deep down, they know that teams don’t care about players, either. They probably witnessed 20 variations of the Perkins trade during their first few years in the league. Hey, it’s a business. Hey, that’s just sports. Hey, trades come with the territory. Isn’t loyalty a two-way street? When a team does what’s best for itself, we call it smart. When a player does the same, we call him selfish. We never think about what a double standard it is.

I thought Perk deserved better than getting blindsided in Denver, then having to limp around with a sprained knee and pack his stuff with tears rolling down his face. Maybe I’m a sap. But that was our guy. Family. On the phone, my dad decided — completely seriously — that he would rather have lost the 2011 title with Perkins than have tried to win it without him. Why?

“Because he was truly part of our team,” Dad said. “I don’t want to root for laundry. I watched that guy for eight years. That should mean something. Continuity should mean something.”

Within a few weeks, both of us will have talked ourselves into the Jeff Green era. That’s what fans do. We take the hits, shake them off, keep coming back. The Celtics will morph into something slightly different: a little more athletic, a little more flexible, a little younger and, hopefully, almost as tough. Perkins will fly to Oklahoma City, live out of a hotel room, make new friends and try to help Durant and Russell Westbrook make the Finals. Maybe the Celtics will see him there. It won’t feel weird at all, because that’s the way professional sports work. We are rooting for laundry. Whether we want to admit it or not.

Since no one seems to get the true point of this post

I will write a post for each question that i asked in this post and i promise to all of the net fans that i wont mention DWight name in not one of them unless he is miraculously traded to us by then and becomes a net.

What's wrong with wanting to trade for the best defensive presence in the league?

Is there something wrong with wanting to win a championship?

there is nothing wrong with wanting to win

Personally i am exhausted with the prayers and hoping for a trade acquisition of a superstar player to bring us to a championship. We jus made that happen and i want to enjoy the moment with deron for at least one week before we start looking ahead to the next the superstar to turn down the Nets. I can’t speak for all fans but it really is a emotional rollercoaster for me. I jus want to get off the ride for a second and see what else there is to do in this theme park.

Welcome to the new NBA.

You need a superteam to contend.

I still have my Devin Harris jersey and the autographed shirt I got when he debuted with the Nets, but I’m thrilled to have D-Will.

I’m a big fan of Brook Lopez the player and an even bigger fan of Brook Lopez the person. But if we could get Dwight Howard (especially in addition to Lopez), I wouldn’t exactly turn that down.

The Nets don’t have a core that’s winning, so they blew it up. The new core can grow up together. Keep Williams, Morrow, Humphries, Lopez.

Thank you

We keep looking forward to these things and get turned down over and over again…this is two years away, why talk about it now? It’ll drive you crazy! Let’s actually support this team now by showing up to the Rock so Deron stays happy. And clearly, putting all of our eggs in one basket is a risky move. We waited for LeBron and cleared out space and ended up with Outlaw and Petro. Why not build a balanced team with a deep bench? If Dwight fits into that picture salary-wise, then that’s perfect. If not, we can still contend by signing other top players and developing younger guys.

we would all love dwight but theres a good chance he doenst come here

king needs to make moves in fact that he can build a quality team to keep deron happy because dwight is not a lock to come here
