Now that we have D-Will on board, we need to get him some help on the wings, with the 3 spot being our primary area of concern. Outlol, suffice to say, is Outlol, and there's no time to wait and see if James will develop. In our quest to a build a championship contender, which still requires the addition of another superstar (hopefully DHoward), we need to make a move that allows the maintenance of significant cap space. We must assemble a team with great chemistry, energy, hard workers, youth, willing and capable defense etc. A squad whose whole is better than the sum of its parts.
SAC's Omri Casspi is a young, promising piece who's still on a rookie contract. He brings energy, can handle the ball and play off the ball in various sets, shoot the 3 consistently, and play good D without backing down from any challenge. He begged his coaches to let him guard Kobe when they faced the Lakers, an example of a confident attitude that this team needs. His ability to run the floor and finish well would compliment Deron's game and free up Morrow for easy outside looks. Most importantly, it would give us strengths in a fastbreak game that we haven't had since RJ KMart and Kittles ran with Kidd. Lopez's half court post game will improve with Deron's playmaking, and adding a dynamic versatile wing with a high bball IQ for a low price would benefit the other 4 starters we have in place. Finally, and most importantly, this would remove Stephen Graham from the rotation and hopefully keep Outlaw's minutes limited - 2 things we desperately need to have happen.
SAC is in limbo, as a future location change is now in discussion. If we were willing to trade picks for Gallinari, we should be willing to do the same Casspi, and it would cost us less to get it done. Proky wants international players and Casspi is a good one who knows what it takes to win after playing for Macabbi Tel Aviv, one of Europe's best clubs.
A rookie contract, potential, and playing for a team that is seemingly lost, Sacramento's Omri Casspi is the perfect player to add to this core moving forward and he could be attainable. Casspi has the same swagger that stars like Deron have. The more players of this type we add heading into BK, the more likely people around the league will take notice: Jay-Z said it best, the Knicks will wish they had "swagger like us."
