The more I think about this scenario of the Knicks and Nets both competing for Carmelo and both Dolan and Proky meeting with Carmelo in LA this weekend.......the more convinced I am of how this is going to play itself out.
Carmelo is going to meet with Dolan and tell him that he really wants to be a Knick and what a dynamic team him and Amare would be - and how CP3 is sure to be joining them soon. Isiah Thomas will probably be in attendance as well as the "Knick" representative with Dolan. After the meeting, Dolan and Isiah will call Denver front office/ownership and agree to deal Anthony Randolph to Minnesota for a first rounder and then to trade that first round pick, along with Eddy Curry's expiring contract, Landry Fields, Gallinari and Wilson Chandler to the Knicks for Carmelo Anthony and maybe some filler (Balkman? as he is an Isiah guy). Denver can then turn around and deal Curry's expiring contract to Cleveland for whatever the trade was going to be for Murphy - as the player is irrelevant to Cleveland - it is only the expiring contract that has value.
Carmelo is still going to meet with Proky while this is going on and the beat writers are going to be having a war of words about who's meeting went well. Carmelo has stated in the past that he would really like to meet Proky so he will have that meeting, knowing his agents and Dolan are bringing him to the Knicks.
Ultimately that deal is going to be announced, and the Nets are going to look like the laughingstock of the NBA and Proky will go from being hero to goat in less than 1 year. Welcome to the NBA comrade!
You will see Donnie Walsh immediately resign or be bought out of his contract by the Knicks for having been undermined by Dolan (and Isiah). D'Antoni may also look to follow Walsh out the door, but I think the opportunity to coach Felton, Melo and Amare will be too much to pass up as he looks to have a team scoring 130+ per night for the rest of season - and then sure to be swept in round 1. Isiah will immediately step in as the GM (he probably already has a printed contract from Dolan ready to sign) and will start making comments about coaching the team as well.
And the Nets are going to be stuck struggling to unload Harris (who will have just given up on the franchise at this point) and Murphy's expiring contract. Most likely they are stuck making that reported Portland deal but will have even less leverage in the deal - perhaps even throwing in a draft pick. And after dragging their star player (Harris) thru the mud all year and showing that there is no loyalty to any player on this team - you can be sure that Lopez will not be signing his next contract in NJ/Brooklyn.
Well played all around.............
Sorry if this is a true Debbie Downer situatioon - but unfortunately the writing is on the wall at this point. Carmelo wants to be a Knick and Dolan will not pass up the opportunity to negotiate for himself and bring Carmelo to NY with Amare. If Carmelo truly wanted to be a Net, he would have been for 82 games this season.....
