Guys I'm not gonna sit here and type up something trying to sound like a professional columnist.
Lets get to the point of this ridiculousness.
Right now, The Nets look naked and desperate. I saw a FanPost on here the other day calling Magic Johnson out for making fun of this team. Well, can you blame the guy? The Nets are jumping on top of and smearing themselves into these 30 something has been (Butler), about be a has been (Chandler), and never will be (Nene) players with their money flapping over their heads. I can understand that this team needs to improve and wants to impress Dwill - but look at this whole thing on the flip side of things.
Nene looks like a beast - and I can understand why some players might be intimidated by the guy - but thats where his skills begin trailing off. 12 points and 7 rebs for a player shooting 60 percentage sounds appealing for 7-9 million dollars per year. But for 100 million dollars over 5 years? I don't even really have to put it into perspective here. You give 15-20 million dollars to Nene and you can kiss the future of the franchise goodbye. A player like Nene might change the culture of the team a bit and bring in some fresh energy - considering he is a decent player with some flair - but what do you think will happen to the nets after that initial impact? You have a 29-30 year old player who's getting money like he can carry the team and don't even think about him developing chemisty D12 if he ever get here. The match-up of the night in every Nets game will be Dwight vs Nene : The Battle for the better interior position.
Tyson Chandler? Chandler's never going to be as good as he was last year. You can talk about his defense all you want, a guy who has game changing skills on D, a championship player who was the anchor of that team. Are we not all realizing that Tyson Chandler's been on the NBA all Defense team ONCE in his career so far? He's also walking out and being a dramatic about not being able to capitalize on his team's success by going public with his doubts about an extension. This guy is all about the money, and when you look at his career - that kind of money is something that he doesn't deserve. A player using his team's success as leverage to get have a grand pay day - not a player you want to give superstar money to.
Bottom line, you'd have be a sucker if your a NBA team willing to give these 2 guys the money they are asking for. Thats what the Nets are looking like right now. A Big Sucker with no shame about it.
Caron Butler, if he can play like he did 3 years ago - he'd be a bargain. if not, then oh well its better to sign this guy for the amount that's been rumored than signing one of the 2 super duds of this FA crAp.
