After the San Antonio Spurs used their amnesty clause on former Net Richard Jefferson it has started a debate. Caron Butler or RJ. I say we go with RJ. Caron Butler is coming over a tough injury and has not played since. In addition he is going to cost a hefty sum considering his age and his injury history.
On the other hand Jefferson could be had a cheaper price and for fewer years. Jefferson hasn't been the same player since being traded away by the nets, but at the same age as Butler with a better health history, I don't see why everyone is saying "NO WAY" on RJ. Jefferson averaged 19.6 points in his first and only year with the Bucks. However after being traded to the Spurs his points per game dropped to 12.3 in 09-10 and 11.0 in 10-11.
Jefferson was a top option on that Bucks team who didn't have a top PG like we do now and he still put up close to 20 a game. On the Spurs Jefferson was not a top option with Duncan, Ginobolli, and Parker. Then last season George and Neal came onto the scene in SA. Jefferson needs his touches and did not get them in SA with that system. I believe RJ can start for us this coming season and average close to 17-20 ppg playing alongside Deron Williams. We saw how Williams upped the game of everyone around him when he came and i think he would do the same for Jefferson.
Signing Richard Jefferson for 1 MAYBE 2 years at whatever the MLE is or maybe a little higher than that would help this team compete for a playoff spot and also give Marshon Brooks and Damion James more time to develop so they can take over that spot while in Brooklyn.
