The Nets have announced that the long-rumored hirings of Mario Elie and P.J. Carlesimo are official. Carlesimo will be lead assistant.
Elie is a three-time NBA champion, twice with the Rockets and once with the Spurs, where he was a teammate of Avery Johnson. Last year, he served as lead assistant for the Kings. Carlesimo is a three-time NBA head coach, having led Trail Blazers, Warriors and Thunder. He also served as an assistant to Gregg Popovich at San Antonio and Jay Triano in Toronto. He also coached two local college teams, Wagner and Seton Hall, to their best seasons ever.
Sam Mitchell, meanwhile, will move to a scouting position.
