Mavs Keeping A Spot Open For Deron Williams
Tyson Chandler is one of the Nets' top free agent targets, and it may be that he's available because the Dallas Mavericks would prefer to preserve cap space for Deron Williams next summer. Ken Berger adds to what ESPN wrote last week, saying that "the buzz among front-office executives Monday was that Dallas owner Mark Cuban would be in a position to sell Williams on taking less money to play in his hometown," assuming that Williams isn't satisfied with what Billy King is able to do over the next few months.
Berger doesn't seem to think much of the package the Nets can offer the Orlando Magic for Dwight Howard, writing that "Brook Lopez, first-round picks and absorbing Hedo Turkoglu's contract doesn't figure to be enough." But he says that a potential Howard deal is "a tantalizing scenario that could play out one way or another by the end of the week."

Ken what are you talking about? Brook a young center to replace the big shoes of howard and 2 first round picks. COme on man!!!!
Yeah, Brook is such a terrible trade asset...
Why get a young, skilled center who hasn’t missed a game in three years when you get Andrew Bynum for 52 games every year?

sadly the fact that the Nets were terrible... the stigma.. and Lopez's rebound numbers
basically everyone assumes that Lopez is a bum or something…

talking to other people, they are clueless about Brook’s offensive skill, all you hear about is his soft rebounding and the fact that he’s been on a horrible team during the first 3 years of his career.

I'm not saying that.
I’m just being a realist.
Just because it doesn’t make sense to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense to a young rich superstar athlete who’s grew up in the state loving the team.

I just think Cuban realizes that
Tyson is about to get way overpaid…so why not keep the cap room to try and sign a guy like Dwill? The Mavs will still be a contender this season.
The Mavs will still be a contender this season.
they’ll be lucky to get out of the 1st rd this year losing all those free agents and being left with so little ability to replace a couple of key components of their championship team.
Mavs got canned in the 1st rd the year before
without Chandler and their depth and being one year older and a more compressed schedule… they’re not gonna look good this year which will make then an even less desirable destination
Like NY losing made them undesirable?
It didn’t, they just had horrible management. Dallas is the “NY” for Deron, so I’m just saying they are the biggest threat.

http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id/7315206/sources-dallas-mavericks-tyson-chandler-talk-golden-state-warriors-houston-rockets-new-jersey-nets
The Mavs’ big quandary, however, is that the presence of Nowitzki on the roster in July 2012 without Chandler as his frontcourt sidekick might not be enough to tempt the league’s top free agents, given that Nowitzki will be 34 next summer.
One source with knowledge of Williams’ thinking, for example, told ESPN.com earlier this week that the All-Star guard was unlikely to choose the Mavericks in free agency — despite his local ties and appreciation of Nowitzki’s game — without Chandler in place as well.

Of the course the source Deron discredited is the credible one.
Cuban is smarter then people give him credit for. But I don’t he “knows something we don’t” this is the same dude that said he was going after Lebron. The Mavs are definately an option and maybe the best option next to the nets. But I’ve said from the start I didn’t think the other options were great outside of us. 34 year old Dirk and an aging team is not an atractive location to spend the rest of your career. I think if Billy makes the right moves Deron will chose Lopez, Brooklyn and the younger up and comming nets over that situation in Dallas.
"Next year, with a full training camp, I think he can go after that Scott Skiles' record of 30." - Billy King
Some wounds
take a long time to heal. Deron hurt his feelings hard. LOL
Bit weird that Berger posts this the day of Deron's interview.
coincidence? Probably.
"Next year, with a full training camp, I think he can go after that Scott Skiles' record of 30." - Billy King
Dirk will be 35 come the playoffs of the first year of the contract of whoever signs there in 2012
Same for Marion
they’d have no one to play the C position
seriously how’s that appealing at all if you’re a young superstar to lose money and commit long term there know the whole damn core would need to be revamped one year after you get there?
You make great points
but if Deron is dumb enough to not only leave 40 million on the table as well as a team that is trying to go upwards for a team that is on the decline, well….

and I think Chris Paul ends up in LA..either lakers or clips….
If I was Orlando..i would def be trying for a Howard for Deandre Jordan and Gordan, and the Minny 1st round pick….that’s an incredible trade regardless if clips take hedo back or not
I think Dallas is 100% appealing to Deron
but I just don’t see it being appealing enough where he would give up the cash for a chance to play with a team that could very well be much worse off than the Nets in a year.

Wow. Look at this.
What do the Nets have to do? We have to get some big pieces that can build a championship. I know it’s not going to happen in one (year). …or it could, if I guess the right guys come. But I know they’re dedicated to doing it so I’m not too worried about it.
Not expecting a ring in year one.
MarShon Brooks has the dreaded.
And you need a championship team? Yeah. Eventually, yeah, I want to win a championship. I’m not interested in being part of a five-year rebuilding process, but I don’t think that’s what the Nets want to do either.
What does it feel like to know everything is about keeping you? It definitely feels good to have that support, to have that input. They ask me a lot about guys, about who I want to play with. That’s great when management will come and ask you that type of stuff.
MarShon Brooks has the dreaded.
I thought this was a bit interesting
I had a playoff team in Utah. We had a good team but we never made any. …I guess they did make trades, they traded me, but other than that, they never did anything significant and it kind of frustrated me.
I think it's fine.
