Opening Line-Up Still Not Set

Photo

Avery Johnson is still unsure of his starting lineup vs. the Wizards, at least as of Monday morning's shoot around. A couple of things do appear certain (beyond Deron Williams and Anthony Morrow): Kris Humphries will start at power forward and Damion James will start at the other end of the front court. But who starts at center?

Johnson would like to start Mehmet Okur, the Brook Lopez replacement, at center but he's only had one practice. If not, Johan Petro will get the nod. Shawne Williams, who lost a week to the flu, and DeShawn Stevenson, who didn't quite show up in shape, are available but only for limited minutes. With teams able to carry 13 active players early in the season, only Jordan Williams will be inactive.

Okur should start

Okur with one practice is worlds better than Petro.

by Jack Handy Jr on Dec 26, 2011 12:01 PM EST via mobile reply actions

It is who plays more minutes and who finishes that counts.

This will be especially true this season. The importance of starters is less relevant, than how to spread the minutes in all the back to back games.

by jerry25 on Dec 26, 2011 12:08 PM EST up reply actions

We need to start off well though

We’re too young and thus inexperienced and mentally weak to be able to overcome a poor start.

Jordan Williams

Need more practice. Would have been nice if he was in shape at the start of training camp. Send him to springfield for now until he is in shape.

by jasperjarrod on Dec 26, 2011 3:49 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

i agree

y would the healthiest front court option be sitting on the bench inactive. we had stevenson who we should have never picked up even for a dollar and shawne williams who was sick but should still play and sorta like his game. but still to have jordan inactive for the game is crazy.

what happens when were up by 25 points at half time maybe he can see some garbage time lol jk :)

As long as Okur starts within the first few games, I'm okay.

If Petro HAS to start tonight, then so be it.

I think it's fine.

by NetsMets4Life on Dec 26, 2011 12:05 PM EST reply actions

Petro seems to be in a good mood.

I just became one of the 177 people he is following.

I guess he isn’t used to having nice things written to him:

RoboCop
@Frenchi27 Good Luck, we are all counting on you. You do appear to be in better shape this season.
22 Dec via web

However, I wrote that just before BK got Okur.

I DO expect Petro to be much better this season, if only he can stay out of foul trouble.
However, this year, even with Lopez out, Nets will have a 2nd backup Center to tack on fouls. Last season it was an inexperienced Favors.

and should definitely start. He’s played with Dwill before.

I’d rather Okur start and not know a single play, than see Petro out there.

Bottom line is that he is in shape

he can start and still play only 25 minutes.

by NetsKiNG on Dec 26, 2011 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

he played in 10 games

Like Deron Williams, Okur played in Turkey. In 10 games, divided between the Turkish League and the EuroChallenge, Okur didn’t appear to be bothered by his back issues. He averaged 13.5 points and 8.1 rebounds in 30 minutes per game for Turkish Telecom. He shot 46.4% from two point range and 38.2% from deep. In a head-to-head matchup with Williams and Besiktas, Okur had 18 points and 13 boards while his once and future teammate had 23 points and 8 assists. Besiktas won the game.

Plenty of time for him rest. Hope it doesn’t happen but Okur’s Back issues will show up with so many back to backs.

No one has been mentioning that Avery would probably give Farmar significant minutes.

Farmar is in game shape and DWill is big enough to allow Avery to give the pair significant minutes.

If Farmar is scoring, I find it hard to believe Nets would lose tonight.

I don’t expect to see much of MarShon, especially if Morrow is hitting his shot.

by jerry25 on Dec 26, 2011 12:15 PM EST reply actions

Farmar seems insecure since d.will came

He’s always been a tad conservative on offense for my taste, but I would have hoped his confidence from overseas would carry over, as well as d.wills sg game to compliment farmar.

And as one high-ranking sneaker executive says, "Adidas simply cannot have its two signature players on the same team in the same market. … Derrick is the face of that market, owns that market, and Adidas can’t possibly have maximum bang for its buck with Dwight there.

"It serves Adidas no purpose. They need them as rivals in competing markets."

Howard knows this, too. He has an Adidas renewal on deck in the next year, and Los Angeles and Brooklyn guarantee him maximum money.

by NetsKiNG on Dec 26, 2011 12:49 PM EST reply actions

Same exact thing. LeBron gets a new Nike contract worth almost big bucks if he goes to NY, and look how that turned out. He didn’t care because he made up for it with other endorsements. I doubt this factors into D-12’s decision.

by JimmyLips on Dec 26, 2011 1:43 PM EST up reply actions

these guys get paid more when they are in big cities

Dwight wont have any problem missing out on 26mil. Adidas will make up for it.
Nike loves having DWill in BK. Expect more advertisements if he re signs

by DJ HeavyDuty on Dec 26, 2011 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

I don't know how much this really factors into someone like Dwight.

Deron yea but Dwight reminds me of Lebron in this situation. A Nike shoe contract won’t break or make him. Dwight was marketable in Orlando and was in commercials, ads and etc etc. For someone like Deron I could see this being a factor but Dwight? Where ever he goes he will be on TV

My lil man.....can't tell me god don't exist.

by killa kadafi191 on Dec 26, 2011 1:13 PM EST up reply actions

yea but that is saying that Orlando will let him walk

and I think that is very unrealistic. I say he will get traded and the team he lands on will be the one he resigns with.

by NetsKiNG on Dec 26, 2011 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

it is interesting

I do feel these shoe companies do have some influences and you brought up a good point.

Remember how Nike tried to take advantage of 2009??

The year Lebron and Kobe were destine to meet in the finals?

The Dream Season Nike and ESPN Special

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJD98PFAU98

The MVP (most valuable puppets)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvad5_WBWTY

Even Coke got in to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9ilXA1bHg8

ESPN did a whole article saying Stern had things planned out had Cleveland and LA met in the FInals

Which is why you are right. I think Adidas has a huge advantage if Dwight is in a big market.

I don’t know if it will be the same as Kobe vs Lebron. Saying Dwight needs to be in the opposite conference as Rose

My lil man.....can't tell me god don't exist.

Well Dwight and Rose

meeting in the Conference finals or any playoff series would be good for Adidas.

Nets Mets Giants ALL DAY

by netsareboss on Dec 26, 2011 12:51 PM EST reply actions

that's it

the problem is his body could lose too much fluid. Especially from sweating which is one reason he has not been practicing. Which could leads to other illness and more serious problems such as seizures.

Depends on how serious this is? Plus he is young. Many young people don’t notice the symptoms of dehydration until it’s too late. I seen many people who think their urine is a dark color and say “I need to drink more water.”

My lil man.....can't tell me god don't exist.

by killa kadafi191 on Dec 26, 2011 1:11 PM EST up reply actions

my bad

yea a lot of people think because their urine is a dark color that “they need to stop drinking so much soda.” Thing about dehydration in some cases the symptoms are similar to the flu. Example: vomiting, diarrhea, or what ever food they eat keeps coming back up. Then again the Flu can lead to some one be dehydrated.

My question is how long does it take when he works out before he gets dehydrated?

My lil man.....can't tell me god don't exist.

Compared to what we saw last season, yes, he is.

If he continues to rebound, make the short jumper. and stay out of fould trouble, he can increase his value for a potential trade or just, finally, be of some help and not a liability.

Maybe he can earn 15 minutes a game.
