Final Predictions ... From Newark
The Star-Ledger smartly waited till Christmas Day before publishing its NBA predictions. That means they were able to incorporate all the last minute changes in their final assessments, up to and including Mehmet Okur's arrival in New Jersey. The four writers who put it all together are generally optimistic about the Nets, putting them seventh in the East.
Dave D'Alessandro, who's been close to agent Dan Fegan, has this to say about the "Dwightmare": "yes, he'll probably land in Newark on or around March 1, in a move engineered by an agent who doesn't make a habit of settling for 'no'."
Mike Vorkunov, who did the league predictions, thinks the Nets sneak into the playoffs after a Dwight Howard infusion, noting the "NBA scheduling gods, wily as they are," put the Nets in Orlando the night after the trade deadline. Could be a coincidence...or not. And Colin Stephenson says that in spite of this season being the last in Newark, "The only thing that will matter will be whether King can succeed in getting his man."
So, Let the Games Begin!

by AmbassadorAmeer on Dec 25, 2011 8:48 AM EST via mobile reply actions
the final sentence in the writeup is something I honestly didn't think we'd read until next November: "let the games begin" !!!
How so? and even so
we are already a bad team no one cares about. Nets fan or not, no one here can deny that they wanted a season this year.

If the Dwight inevitably to the Nets is true, no season would have allowed that without giving up anyone on our roster, plus having those 2012 draft picks, and lastly, not having to think of giving up Lopez as well.
From a Nets fan perspective it would have been great, but is everything you said 100%?
because I was hearing about contract rollbacks, and not to sure about the lottery rule, and other aspects of the league.

I'm excited about the Memo & Stevenson additions
those guys have been on winning teams and should help change our team’s culture.
Haha even 2k12 has us ranked 29th
But all in all D-Will has to play at a MVP level for us to be around 500 like Amare did before Melo came…. Point blank

interesting paragaph out of Salt Lake Tribune
Jerry Sloan is gone, ditto for his top assistant, Phil Johnson. Deron Williams is in New Jersey, so is Mehmet Okur. There’s a good chance Andrei Kirilenko ends up there, too
I keep thinking the Nets are only a roster move away from bringing AK-47 in. They’re at the cap, but a sign and trade could bring him in. No team currently has that much cap space to bring him in and he’s still sitting in Russia, with two weeks to decide what he’s going to do.

Hes getting paid pretty well over there,
whats to stop him from just staying there?

Jordan Farmar seems like the obvious to be moved in a salary dump
To accommodate a move like you speak of…. Even the dude from NBA TV said he thinks AK will be a net during there fantasy preview show with Scott

Why not the vet minimum?
I know it’s a bit outlandish but shouldn’t the Prokhorov connection come into play here already?

If AK is donating his CSKA salary he could do 1 yr as a Christmas gift to Proky

Do you think they have inside knowledge though?
It just sounds like an easy assumption. I would love to trade Farmar for him. I think we can take back close to $6m based off his $4m salary… If we can still do the 150% rule. AK would be the missing piece imo, as in we would be a threat to everyone in the east other than Miami and Chicago

Shouldn't there be a trade market do Farmar?
I’m truly surprised that we have not been able to trade him.
J-Kidd to D-Will
Maybe they were close in the game at MSG
But after Brook broke his foot, that deal died.

I have a feeling shawne williams is going to more
Then whats expected he has a lot of tools. I read a draft exerpt on him and said he has the ability to dribble the ball always thought he just a set up shooter and his defense is better then whats advertised

I wonder how these 4 writers had as ranked last year?
National writers have us at the bottom, and local writers have us as a bubble team… Who’s more accurate?

The best point guard in the NBA, a team full of shooters and young players, the possibility of adding the best center in the NBA…. This is going to be one hell of a season!
Jim Buss, who holds the title of Lakers VP of Player Personnel, addressed a report suggesting the Magic were willing to trade Dwight Howard for Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.
“Where does this stuff come from?” Buss said. “You’d have to be kind of silly to give up two All-Stars like that for Howard. Zero truth to it. We have never been asked for Andrew and Pau and we’ve never offered them. I think they know we’d either say no or they would sound crazy for asking.”
Buss denied being unwilling to part with Bynum.
“Let’s just say this,” he says. "You have to give up something to get something. And I’m willing to give up something to get something.
“We’ve done everything within the rules that we could to explore this situation until we were just spinning our wheels,” he says. "The player is still in control of his own destiny; he can block a trade just by saying I’m not going to sign a new deal and stay where he is.
“I personally believe now that we have the team that we will be playing with all season long.”

Dwight Dwight Dwight
I am not counting on having Dwight this year, or any other year. I think he goes to LA or Chicago. So what is my prediction for the NETS this year, with the players on the roster right now? I think we might have a chance of being the 8th seed, if we don’t get hit by the injury bug. AND DWILL opts out, but then signs with us, as he can receive like 25 million dollars more by signing with us. But one thing I am sure about……Marv Albert wears lady’s underware when he does NFL games! AND the knicks need a point guard who looks to pass first. AND with the injury to Iman just now, I think the knicks should sign……ME!
Paul from Sunny Delray Beach, Florida
Petro starting?
Why is he playing? Starting is not acceptable. Our front court rotation could easily be
Hump/Shawne Williams/Horner
Okur/Shelden Wlliams/Petro
Starting Petro puts a ton of pressure on Deron because he doesn’t really do much. I’d rather have a shooter out there (Okur) or a defender/hustle guy in Sheldon.
