Stephen Graham Awaits His Fate
Getting laid off on Christmas Eve sounds much like Dickens "A Christmas Carol". Only this year, Billy King could be Scrooge and Stephen Graham, Bob Cratchit. The Nets must decide by Saturday whether to dump Graham and save themselves $1.1 million, money that could be used for cap space...at the least.
Graham realizes what's going on. "You’ve got guarantees, ups and downs, ins and outs, but the only thing you can do is stay positive, stay in prayer and let it handle itself,' he told Colin Stephenson. The way it works is Graham has a non-guaranteed contract that will pay him $1.1 million this season. It only becomes guaranteed if he is on the roster when the NBA season begins on Christmas Day.

it's not guaranteed, he shouldnt be upset
if he’s not in the roster by start of the season. He can only blame himself.
We need every cap space we can accumulate for flexibility.
I still believe we can do IT !

I wouldn't say he has to blame himself
by all accounts he worked very hard to get this far and is a good guy. fact is it’s a very competitive league and it’s a business, which is why he’ll get cut. he played 6 years in one of the top pro sports leagues in the world though, certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

I don't think that's the case
I think that Avery just used him to send a message to the rest of the team, saying that if you’re underperforming or not putting out the effort, that’s he’s not afraid to send out STEPHEN GRAHAM to replace you!
deshawn stevenson, keith bogans
or Stephen Graham?
guys lets be real, forget all the image problems deshawn has, he’s a vet, just won a ring, bow downs to no man on the court, and has declined from being a consistent 15 ppg scorer into an occasional deep threat in the playoffs on the same stage where Ray Allen once had a 0-13 shooting performance
dont know bout you guys but a dude that posted a 4.4 PER last year in average minutes that has been on at least 5 teams in 7 years can be upgraded by just about anybody of NBA ilk
best of luck to graham the citizen but graham the NBA player needs to GTFO and give it up.

Not only can Ak and stevenson play d.
They will hit open shots/at least draw a look from a defender.

Still not that high on this signing
The Nets need another SG or SF that Deron can pass the ball to and no the other guy can make a play as well. As in handle the ball and be able to create a shot for themselves or someone else. Really we need an Iggy/Granger/Gay/SJax.. even AK.
Having shooters is nice and all, but it means nothing if no else is competent enough to get them an open look and then the ball, other than one player on the roster.

i understand we dont have to rush
but i assume that means that BK is looking at other options to keep AK as last choice.
I agree with the Knicks commentators last night
The NYK has this sense of comraderie, that’s what we need, I felt like Stat and Chandler was bullying us all night and we were just taking it. I guess its hard to have that sense when all our players are either trade bait or on a one year deal…
by kupalski on Dec 22, 2011 8:51 AM EST via mobile reply actions
Does anyone know the terms of Udoka's contract?
Maybe Nets have time to waive him if it is partially guaranteed.
Hopefully BK thought of that when he was signed. Could it be a Jan. 1 or Feb. 1 deadline with say only $100,000 guaranteed? With his mother passing, maybe Nets will give him more time.
I could not find date .
But according to New York Post it is non guaranteed.

Agreed,
He should be low $ and replace either Graham or Udoka. I guess it all depends on if we go after AK47 also.
It is probably up to DWill.
I think we would have too many guards, and not enough bigs.
Possitives from last night
I doubt it very much that Morrow will ever give us an 0-10 night again.
We will prob never turn in a 14-28 FT night again either. You have to like it that we got to the line that much though. shows we are being aggressive.
Hump just signed and needs to get into gameshape. That should only take a week.
Petro actually looked decent last night. Maybe him being the 1st guy in the gym when the lockout ended wasnt BS.
Marshon is getting his feet under him. You can tell he is thinking to much instead of just playing. He will only get better as the year goes on. You have to be impressed by his soft, shooters touch
Shawne Williams hasnt played yet. Graham and Idoka will NOT be in the regular season rotation.
Lopez looks like he did his 1st 2 years. He was in foul trouble last night but he is playing much more agressive.
Damion James might not be a top level talent but he plays with alot of energy. He was the best Net on the court last night.
Farmar didnt play last night either. He is the better backup to Gaines.
Stevenson wont play big minutes but will upgrade our perimeter defense. He will be good late in close games

It’s a 16 man roster at the moment.
PG: Deron Williams, Jordan Farmar, Sundiata Gaines
SG: Anthony Morrow, DeShawn Stevenson, MarShon Brooks
SF: Damion James, Shawne Williams, Stephen Graham, Ime Udoka
PF: Kris Humphries, Shelden Williams, Dennis Horner, Jordan Williams
C: Brook Lopez, Johan Petro
We only have to make one cut. While it’s possible multiple people go, I’d expect Udoka or even Horner to get cut before Graham.
Fire Brian Schottenheimer.

my thoughts on last night
- Shelden WIlliams stinks
*Morrow cannot handle the ball on a fast break
*Hump is clearly our 3rd best player
*DWill looked good the few times he was at the 2 spot
*Petro actually looked ok
*Tyson Chandler is not the beast the Knix think he is
Hump is our 3rd best player?
You got that from 3min of preseason play?

Petro is out to prove something. Since he isn’t going to get traded in the next couple of months (Nets have to save picks and cash assets) we should lay off of him for now.
Guys,
Didn’t want to even open ND after yesterday’s defeat. Was upset enough with the loss itself. But let me tell you, especially those who scream “OMG EVRYTHING IS LOST THIS TEAM IS A TOAST”. Let’s give it a time. At least 10 games or so. Knicks are supposed to be 2nd or 3rd best team in the east and 2 times we lost them we only crumbled in the 4th. From the positive side of view: James is developing nicely and making strong statement for rock solid starter, Lopez, having an ugly game, manages to score 15 and grab 9, we’re hanging in there with Morrow shooting 0 for 100 and our rookie has a heart of a champion. Add Shawne Williams, Deshawn Stevenson and conditioned Hump and we can go to war.
Have faith.

The officiating was bad
His 2nd foul should not have been called. It was an illegal screen but there was nothing illegal about it. His 4th foul was much of the same. He went up for a rebound against Chandler, they both had the ball in their hands yet Lopez was called for the foul, and he had better position too. Those were at least 2 fouls that should not have been called.
we need another scoring option badly
I didnt see the whole game but geez when deron and brook are out of the game, we look like a d league team. We need a wing scorer. Brooks as much as i love him and hope he can be that, just isnt ready to handle that role yet and hes our BENCH scorign option which is somethign we also need.

The biggest thing I took from last nights game...
Is the fact that no matter what happens with Dwight Howard…we need a starting sg or sf that is a real scoring threat and can drive to the hoop. We need someone to take the scoring pressure off of D-Will. He can’t just dump the ball in to Lopez (for now) or Dwight (hopefully) every possession. We need the presence of a player who can drive to the hoop so we don’t become a jump shooting team.

Nick Young?
Couldn’t we have picked up Nick Young (6ft 7)…he would have done well with Deron on the side.
He got signed for like 3.2 million bahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Nick Young is horrible. The guy puts up empty stats, doesn’t even pretend to play defense, and has absolutely no interest in getting his teammates involved. It’s easy to like the guy off a quick glance at his stat sheet, but when you actually watch him play, you want nothing to do with him.

When you take a deeper look at his stats, he’s not even that though. 1.2 assists to 1.4 turnovers, really? For a guard? I get that he’s not a PG, but that’s still atrocious. Then, despite being 6’7", he can only grab 2.7 rpg in 32 mpg?
