If Brook Lopez goes to Orlando, he'll be a marketing Disney star.
Draft some help with all that newfound cap space and possibly an all star player roped in from a three or four team deal, and Orlando will still be good with growth potential.
Brook Lopez is only 23. He can get tougher as he gets older, and assurably smarter on the floor.
It really is a good trade for both teams, under the circumstances because Howard wants and is going to leave.
Now, if Gasol and Bynum are offered, we cannot beat that trade. Lopez, Wallace, taking back 15 mill in cap, and a 1st round pick were not considered as good as Gasol and Bynum. So, if the Lakers go all in, we are likely all out.
Now sometimes the best moves are the ones that don't happen. If Brook Lopez truly becomes 20 and 10 perennially and Damion James maximizes his potential, Marshon Brooks becomes one of those guys that just gets the NBA game and thrives, then guess what? You become a contender by building a championship.
That's a lot of 'if' but it definitely can happen. Also, you're able to sign a big time FA in the offseason.
It would surely remind me of the latest Yankees dynasty. Steinbrenner wanted to trade Bernie WIlliams, but couldn't because he was out of baseball, and Gene Stick Michael wouldn't allow it when Steinbrenner returned. Williams became the "belief" that they could do it "home grown," when he became really good in '94 and blew up in the '95 playoffs. Jeter, Petite and Mo joined him and the rest was dynasty.
