Hypothetical Scenario - tomorrow Dwight Howard says he's signing with Magic. If he does so, what's your plan B for Nets?
Are you happy with a "big three" of: DWill, Nene, Brook Lopez? Do you think that such a foundation strong enough to contend annually for a championship? I don't!
I ask this because Nene is going to get somewhere between 10 - 14 million after it's all said and done. Do you want the nets to spend that kind of money on Nene?
My plan: Offer 10 - 12 million to Greg Oden
I know that his health situation makes it risky, but here's why;
1) if healthy, he provides an anchor for the defense - brute strength, rebounding and shot blocking.
2) He's has more offensive potential than Brook Lopez as your primary post option. He already has a soft touch around the rim and shoots a higher percentage. He just needs some more time to refine his post game a bit. A summer with Hakeem would do him wonders.
3) You can pair him with Brook. (ie Gasol and Bynum)
4) A foundation of DWill, Lopez, Oden is much stronger that a foundation of DWill, Lopez, Nene.
4) If his health fails, you can always use the stretch provision on him. But at least you shot for greatness, not just average.
What's your plan B?

I would take a risk on Oden..
Just not 10-12 million. I wouldn’t go higher than 6 or 7.. although 7 million is now a cursed number in my eyes.
Signing Nene's not necessarily shooting for 'average'
Shooting for Dwight’s shooting for greatness; shooting for Oden’s taking a calculated risk that has the potential for amazing upside. Too risky for $10-12, though.
im all for nene over chandler
chandler for me has NEVER impressed me.
he’s not much of a scorer at all.. he did good in the finals because the heat have to bigs..
i’ll take nene over him all day… nene has a more solid all around game.
I think what he’s trying to say is that none of this is realistic. Because thats the way I see it.
Dwight won’t want to stay at Orlando I just know it, they haven’t been successful, and his team right now is pretty bad. Besides I would only consider Oden as a backup at this point after we get someone like Nene/Humphries.
Oden a Backup??
the guy is still very young, if he comes back at 75% of what he was, he’s still way more athletic than Chandler, Nene, and Brook Lopez!

what? have you ever seen Tyson and Nene play?
Oden wasn’t as athletic when he was healthy
We are in another atmosphere. You're just in the Troposhere we in the Exospere. In other words the JETS are higher than you!
oden over nene is nonsense
especially at that cost. Oden hasn’t proven anything. And you commit that money, and it fails, not only did you lose out on Dwight, say goodbye to Deron as well.
If Dwight would say he’s staying in Orlando, Nets ONLY choices is Nene or Chandler.

For the Record:
DWill & Nene or Chandler is not enough to win a championship!
The nets are going to need another A list Player.

we're no going to go from a 24 win team
to a contender overnight
and your also not going to go from a struggling playoff team to a contender - ever!
That’s why you have to spend big money on players significantly change the dynamics of your team. Nene is not going to do that.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Nene. Give him 7-8mil a year. Dont give him 12- 14mil.

I doubt the Trailblazers let Oden go this early
He’s still only like 23
his bones are like 85

wait, wait, wait. did i read this right?
you won’t give nene 10-14 mil, but you will give greg oden 10-12? nene is probably the better player and he’s also actually healthy, unlike knees-of-glass greg oden. I understand saying oden at 7MM is a better value than nene at 14MM, but saying that oden’s value is equal to nene’s is crazy.
in what world is nene a better player than Greg Oden? Your insane!

In short, no.
In medium, you are probably the only person I know who still has faith in Oden. Even if he was better than Nene, which he isn’t, he’d probably only play around 40-50 games/season at BEST. And I’m talking about an 82 game season.
So let me get this straight - Your saying that Nene..... Nene Hilario.... is better than GREG ODEN. Is that right?
I understand that Nene might be a healthier player, but it’s crazy to say that he’s better.

?????? what has oden ever done to say he's better?
He never plays and the only playing time you can base your evaluation of him off of is ohio state….where he had all defense and NO offense.

I like your thinking shot-a-reality.....
Sometimes people in life have to think outside the box to reach their goals. Now as for Oden, or should I say a healthy Oden is better then a healthy Nene but the problem is Oden might not ever stay healthy. With that being said, I still rather take my chances at Oden then overpay for Nene or Chandler because I’m not a big Nene or Chandler fan (like I wasn’t a fan of Boozer last year when we were courting him). I ’m just hoping Dwight shows up at our doorsteps….I can dream, right?
if dwight say no i say we hold on to outlaw (for amnesty purposes) and sign prince and AK47 for small deals. Also take a look at all the players cut via amnesty and see if there is anyone else who can help the team for the proper prices. Once thats done and the season begins I start putting deals together for more draft picks and young powerful big men. Its not worth spending money because we have to spend it. Id rather have all the money in a few seasons rather than have terrible contracts.
You Do Remember
The last time we offered a flash in the pan Trailblazer a ridiculous contract. That worked out well now didn’t it.
