I know the Dwight Howard situation is all speculative right now, but I think I just figured out a way to get BOTH Nene and Dwight Howard. I was hoping some of you CBA experts out there could verify if this is possible. Mind you, this isn't a question of if Orlando would make this trade or not, I'm just checking to see if this scenario is possible under the new NBA rules.
The trade is this:
Lopez, Williams (Jordan not Deron), Petro, Farmar, Graham, 2 draft picks, Cash
For..
Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu
Like I said... not questioning if the Magic would do this or not (probably need a 3rd team sucker), but just trying to prove how we can have both stars using some fancy CBA loopholes.
Here is what we do. First, we renounce Humphries and Wright, and Amnesty Outlaw. That puts us at roughly 22.5 million under the cap.
Next step, sign Nene for 12.5 million starting. Again, not really questioning if he will find better offers or if he will agree to sign with us, just assuming 12.5 million frontloaded would cut it.
The Nets are now 10.5 million under the cap (added 500,000 because we no longer have that empty roster spot). We then send over 2 draft picks, and a TE for Hedo Turkoglu and his 10.6 million contract. As far as I know, NBA rules say you can go over the cap by 100,000.
Now the Nets are OVER the cap, and can take advantage of the new and improved 150% rule. Lopez, Petro, Farmar, Graham, and Williams collectively make around 12 million.. good enough to be traded for an 18 million salary.
Am I missing something? Is this possible?
