Adrian Wojnarowski claims that the Sacramento Kings put in a bid for Travis Outlaw and have won his services for the next four years. The Kings bid $3 million, reducing the Nets' liability to Outlaw by $12 million over the next four years.

The acquisition of Outlaw would seem to take Sacramento out of the mix for Andrei Kirilenko as well.

Both the Knicks and Thunder were reportedly interested in Outlaw but it's uncertain if the Thunder bid for the 6'9" forward. The Knicks, over the cap, could not bid and were hoping Outlaw would clear waivers and become a free agent.

Anyone know the best way to get to Ramapo college? Train to mahway or drive there? Thanks.

by djeterfan on Dec 17, 2011 6:46 PM EST via mobile reply actions

It's rural. Is there a train stop there?

I drive up there on occasion.

2010-2011 = acquire an All-Star via cap space as Thorn himself said
2011-2012 = make the playoffs without hindering future flexibility
2012 off-season = sign the second All-Star
2012-2013 = make a run for the championship

Mission accomplished thus far.

It's not too rural.

I go to college there and it’s right off 17. The train station is right by it also, I think you can take a bus there from the train

Tweeting to BK to release Graham and trade Petro away.

I really hope Graham is outta here once we complete assembling our team.

by djeterfan on Dec 17, 2011 6:58 PM EST via mobile reply actions

only way Petro is tradeable...

is to pair him with a draft pick…that’s not happening. Nets need every pick they have. Hopefully he’s tradeable next summer as an expiring contract. Maybe he could be a filler in a bigger deal to make contracts match…and if Nets include 3 mil to pay this season’s salary.

by BKNfastbreak on Dec 17, 2011 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

So can they use the amnesty on Petro next year?
The new amnesty clause the Nets used on Outlaw allows teams a once-a-year-option to wipe a player’s remaining contract from the salary cap and avoid any luxury tax penalties.

i know we wanna all make fun of outlaw…..but this team needs some players…..its clear we arent making a D12 trade anytime soon…..and even though lopez looks solid and is clearly gonna rebound, the orlando FO watches this game and sees him playing unconventionally and a little less fluid than other centers and that is important to them….why? no answer to that….but regardless…..u take hump and a good SF and put em with dwil, lopez, morrow, brooks, djames and shawne off the bench thats a damn good team

Any chance of getting Stevenson for vet depth off the bench? Can shoot the shoot the 3 and I think a good defender for a guard. At least he is an NBA player – unlike Graham an Udoka. Nets have some real wimps like Farmar and Morrow out there (they both try hard but are physically weak). They need some muscle at the guard spot in spots- although Brooks length looks good on D.

Shelden will be Brook’s primary back up . Petro is a real pain in the arse to watch and he needs to shave that head..

Today showed the same issues we have seen in many years prior...if Stat and Melo played the entire game, we would have been blown out by a decent 25-30 points.

Our FO situation is scary! outside of Lopez good game, there were only two others that had a decent game. James and Horner…our depth at the 3-4-5 is real bad. I can see an average or a bit sub average play out the 3 spot with a Shawne and DJ rotation. The four and five need much improvement. we are going to get killed in the paint. Sheldon and Petro are absolutely inept and slow. It will be a foul fest during the regular season. They couldn’t even keep up with the NYK 3-4 string players….what will happen when they have to guard starters for 40 out of 48 mins a night?

Unfortunately...

I think things are going to completely die down till the trading deadline now. It looks like the Magic are content with playing this through till then, which could be tough to deal with for this team. What we have to hope for is that the Magic start losing a ton of games to start the season. This will help the chatter build up again. Also, I want the Nets front office to play this smart. If Magic drag this out all the way till the trading deadline and then choose to deal him then because he hasn’t backed off his original trade request, the Nets CANNOT offer the same thing they were offering days ago. The package should not be as significant because the Nets would hold all the cards (as long as Dwight demands he wants to be here and only here).

Where's caseychessecake to celebrate this news?

2010-2011 = acquire an All-Star via cap space as Thorn himself said
2011-2012 = make the playoffs without hindering future flexibility
2012 off-season = sign the second All-Star
2012-2013 = make a run for the championship

Mission accomplished thus far.

Lets assume the Nets get Howard

Lets also assume they have to give up either Morrow or Brooks (he can be traded in less than two weeks), Farmar, Lopez and picks, either directly or to a third team, like the Trail Blazers.

Who’s your starting PF? Who’s your starting SF?

So Kings out of Kirilenko mix

with the Outlaw signing.

Problem remains 1) the lack of Nets interest in him. They are waiting on Otis and 2) He may want to say in Moscow. It’s his home.

I assume that the Nets can sign him at any time. He has a three year deal with CSKA at a high rate of pay and CSKA is the only undefeated team in the Euroleague.

I am very depressed by all this. The Nets are gambling everything on their ability to free Howard from the Magic.

To be honest I'm starting to think there may be another option

Go after another high tiered player with picks and flesh the team out, our picks don’t disappear. This all works perfectly if Marshon becomes the real deal and creates a sick back court with D-will, and Lopez becomes a monster, that we could trade or keep.

"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."

by Clayton Balch on Dec 17, 2011 10:46 PM EST up reply actions

Don't think its that easy

We could field a good team not just D-12 or bust. You can field a good team without him.

"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."

I disagree.

If Dwight isn’t on the Nets by the summer, D Will goes to the Mavs.

by Clayton Balch on Dec 17, 2011 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

We will see

But the man reason for him staying is on a team capable of winning the championship and competing year in and year out. Can be done without D-12 as hard as it might be but thats why King gets paid big bucks. Sure he has a backup plan to the backup plan its not D-12 then give up.

I agree, but not making ANY moves is killing us

My personal opinion, Williams, Morrow, AK47, Humphries, and Lopez can do some serious damage because they all complement each other. That’s a Top 4 team in the East easily, but having Williams, Morrow, blank, blank, and Lopez isn’t going to do much

Even if that team was a Top 4 team, which I don't think it is,

they would never beat the Bulls, Heat, or Knicks in a 7 game series. Why would D Will sign on for that?

Might not be able to beat them year 1. But with an off season to sign some players,

it’s not inconceivable since Dwight and D Will fit so well compared to the Heat players.

by Clayton Balch on Dec 17, 2011 11:08 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe

but its kind of hard to match up against the best player in the world, arguably the best SG in today’s NBA, a top 10 PF, and they have added some good role players. No player in the NBA wouldn’t mind playing for the Heats with there Big 3, can’t really say the same for the Nets with Howard and Lopez. Heats are built similar to the Celtics with there recent Big 3 when you think about it.

I have a feeling the Nets are in deep discussions with Orlando

Gortat’s T.E. expires Monday, which gives them some incentive for a deal to get done by Monday. They HAVE to give a PF/SF atleast one preseason game. Lakers involved with Love….I don’t know but I have a feeling that they are close to a deal, but we won’t hear a thing till a deal is done

by davidnets on Dec 17, 2011 10:51 PM EST reply actions

the trade exception is irrelevant to the deal

only good for trading for a player (ex. mavs used their TE to get odom)

our deal with them doesnt factor in their TE

by Henry Sanchez on Dec 17, 2011 10:54 PM EST up reply actions

I'm pretty sure...

that you can still use a trade exception to acquire a player and not count against the salary cap. So thats why LAL can take back Nelson in a deal…but why can’t Orlando use it in a deal?

by davidnets on Dec 17, 2011 10:57 PM EST up reply actions

they can but with our deal it doesn't matter bc we're taking back most of their salary

they can use the trade exception on rookie players they take back or something like that

by BEBESTER on Dec 17, 2011 11:00 PM EST up reply actions

it may or may not be

you cannot combine a trade exception with other parts of a deal, but you can break a big deal down into component parts.

It would be hard to make it relevant but not impossible.

The StayDwight campaign successfully had about 9000 people show up, plenty of them with StayDwight signs that were autographed by Howard.

not how it works

he will get 7mil for the next 4 years, guaranteed. the only thing is the Kings will pay 3mil of it, so we pay 4mil for the next 4 years

With center Sean Williams bailing on Maccabi Haifa contract for “personal reasons,” expect NBA deal on horizon. Mavs wouldn’t be a surprise.

Lol, if Nets would have held on to

CDR, T-Willz, and SWAT, we would never have a problem winning 12+ games or trading for player.

Multiple league sources contend the Nets have done "virtually nothing" regarding a pursuit of Kirilenko, who is in Russia where he has battled through a shoulder injury and a broken nose.
And the Nets also are playing a waiting game with Humphries because Howard remains their quest. Expect nothing to change until after New Year’s Day — maybe well after and possibly right up to the March 15 trading deadline.
The Nets like Kirilenko (if he’s healthy). They like Humphries (for the right price). But they love Howard above all and are doing everything to try to maintain cap space and flexibility to accommodate all scenarios.

On a thread related note,

I don’t get what the Kings are doing. They’re really trying to build an all offense, no defense except for Chuck Hayes team. Tyreke, Jimmer, Thornton, Salmons, Hickson, Cousins; you’d think they would have no use for Outlaw at all

This sucks. I want this Dwight drama to be over already

Agreed, either get it over with before the season starts or don’t even talk about it until the March deadline…
