Trade Ideas for People Other Than Dwight:

I posted this as a comment on a thread also but felt it would be a good Fanpost Also:

Some Ideas:

Like last year it might not be the guy we thought we were getting but overall if end up just as well, so here are some other ideas.
Trades:
Kevin Love: RFA after next season meaning we can match any offer, and thus can retain him, which makes him a good fit for the nets. As we have the assets for Howard we presumably have the necessary assets to get Love. Love’s contract would also be a maximum of 16 million next season allowing for the nets to with a few minor moves be able to still sign Dwight next summer. If this move were made we’d either need to sign Humphries or Dalembert to fill the other PF/C position and hold over the tide.
Josh Smith: This trade only makes sense if we can do it without losing Brook Lopez in the process, if the nets can complete this trade for two first round picks, and other small pieces it makes sense. This deal would also leave the nets with the ability to still sign Dwight next summer should that be an option, while making the nets competitive and Deron happy. We would also be able to sign and trade Brook next year as he is a RFA for more talent to go along with Deron – Smith – Dwight.
Paul Millsap: Another guy from Utah, and thank god because we seem to be able to make quick deals with them. Millsap is a very good power forward who we could most likely acquire for picks and change. This deal also leaves enough cap space to sign Howard in the event that we can, and should be enough to make the team competitive if paired with the right one year deals.

I’m not being a pessimist and saying we won’t get dwight i’m being a realist and saying that Otis Smith is a dumb mother Moiso, and is asking to lose Howard in the summer, this is even more obvious than the Lebron fiasco and that was really obvious to everyone except Cleveland. In my opinion if Orlando would like to take nothing for him and let us have him for nothing we should see that through.

Let Me know What you guys think.

Here's Why He's Included:

The question i’m posing is would you rather the nets go after a target that may be more easily obtainable (love, smith, or millsap) or would you rather the nets continue dealing with Orlando in attempt to land Dwight Howard.

Revisit the Wallace Trade

If we can get Blazers to take two 1st rounders (1 this year and one in 2014) then i say we sign him. He fits this team perfectly, Gives us a great defender plus someone who can attack the boards. He also can run the floor really well which would be great with Deron.

I agree bigblue

You get Josh Smith without trading Lopez…throw in Hump, Farmar even Morrow if you have to (or the equivalent in picks) I think Hawks do that deal if Morrow is in there. Then you would have to overpay for Affalo, 3 yrs. @ 6-7 per. Wallace is a stud “3”, we get him we are golden.

Dont think we can get Josh W/O trading Lopez

they want a Quality Center so that they can move Horford over to play the PF. Anything less won’t get it done IMO. I also don’t wanna see morrow go quite yet. I like Marshon’s potential but am not ready to roll the dice with him as our starting two guard yet. I have to see what he can do.

I'm thinking something like this for Wallace

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=79ryqqg

Gives Portland a big who can run the floor as insurance for the fragile Oden and aging Camby
Also gives them a future Wallace in D James who i can see playing a similar role with a little less athleticism.

Also gives the a scorer in Bogdanovich who has some promise.

This trade with a draft pick or two is a deal i think they take if they were willing to part with him to begin with.

I Like The Proposal

However my favorite of all three is the Love deal, realistically if we have the assets to obtain Dwight we should have the assets to acquire Kevin Love. Also, Minnesota is no were near close to competing for a playoff spot and would be smart to accept on offer like the Nets Lopez, 3 picks, and small pieces. Then we’d have Deron and Love, and it would be crazy to think Deron would pass up a chance to play with Love and Howard to play with Nowitzki in Dallas and thus, we’d be safe bet to be a contender going into Brooklyn.

Love is going to be the centerpiece of their franchise

Look at this way, If Dwight would be a restricted free agent after this year would Orlando even think about trading him. Love is to Minny as Blake Griffen is to LA. They are not going to even consider trading him. The first All Star they have had since KG if im not mistaken.

Yeah if you're throwing in two draft picks I'll take it.

It’s not ideal, Petro is garbage, I don’t view James’ ceiling as that high, we already have plenty of stashed euro players (Joel Freeland and Victor Claver are left after we traded Peteri Koponens rights to Dallas), but those 2 picks, yeah we’ll take ‘em. I know there would obviously have to be some type of protections on them, but something like 2 lottery protected 1sts I would do. Crash is awesome and would fit really well with Deron and Brook. He would compensate for Brook’s anemic rebounding and bring a sense of toughness and defense your team is severely lacking right now.

The smarter you are, the more likely you are to be tripping balls at any given moment.

And honestly, I'm really on the fence about this deal.

It’s just a serious injection of youth you’d be giving us which makes it really hard not to consider.

Question...

if Marshon Brooks explodes into the season as a major player lets say Jamal Crawford with better D like performance do you throw him into a deal for Dwight.

I would be willing to do it but i think we are going to need to have some quality pieces to surround Deron and D12 if/when the trade happens.

If the Nets Play well with the talent they have then it makes Dwight more of a foregone conclusion. If Lopez performs. Marshon achieves. And Outlaw if not amnestied snaps out of it and becomes a player suddenly worth his contract. Then we suddenly have pieces that would appear alot better; Not onl for Dwight but for other player looking to sign with a contender in the future.

We can say that the Otis holds the power but if the nets jump out the gates then I’m sure that Billy’s phone will start ringing and then the Nets will have the power then.

Milsap would be perrrrrrrfect

The Jazz have so many power forwards; thanks to us smh; one of them should be up for grabs.
If they can get Paul for draft picks that’s the move to make I heard Al Jefferson was available as well.

Okafor+Minny pick for Petro

Have to give up on the Dwight dream & move on.

by TheNetsFan on Dec 14, 2011 8:54 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

Hornets are not giving up that Minny pick until the wolves win 30 games

by bettacalltyrone on Dec 15, 2011 12:51 PM EST up reply actions

I think Milsapp is the way to go.

He’ll be the cheapest, we’ve obviously dealt with Utah in the past, AND Deron played with him for how many years? So maybe that would lead deron to staying.
