Why even bother?
It all startede in the summer of 2004. I was enjoying the NBA, but I didn't have a favorite team just yet. I was a big fan of Vince Carter, but I just couldn't like the Toronto Raptors as a team. They are Canadian for crying out loud!
Then, in 2004, the Nets drafted Christian Drejer, from Denmark. Though he didn't get to play a single NBA game, I instantly got fond of the Nets. Then, later in 2004, the Nets acquired my first true NBA love, Vince Carter. I just got myself a favorite team!
Telling about how I watched most Nets games during the years of Vince Carter, is stating the obvious. The real test – was I actually a Nets fan? - came when Carter was dealt to the Magic (where one of my three favorites, Dwight Howard, plays). I must admit, that I had times where I screamed at my TV, mostly due to Devin Harris and his bad shot selection, and decided to turn it off. I was getting angry. Good, I still care about this team!
During the 12 win season, I missed quite a few Nets games. I just couldn't stand watching Devin Harris dribble for 15 seconds and then miss a shot, so I only watched about 30 games that season.
It is fascinating, that you can develop such love/hate relationships to teams and players. Deep in my heart, I really really really hate the Knicks, Lakers and Celtics. On the other hand, I love the Nets – and I enoy watching players like Dwight Howard and Deron Williams.
I might never go to a game in the US, but I will buy International League Pass Broadband every year. And should the worst happen – Deron leaving – I will still follow the team. I have been a fan for seven years, and will be so for the remainder of my NBA life. My girlfriend is due to give birth to our first child in 10 weeks. I promise, that I will do everything, to turn my son into a Nets fan.
Who knows – fifteen years from now, I might stay up late to watch a Nets game with my son. Denmak is six hours ahead of New Jersey, so sometimes it can be difficult to stay up until 4AM. My girlfriend thinks I'm spending to much time on NBA and soccer. She's right, but I wouldn't trade my interest for the NBA and Nets for anything. The joy when you win. The thought that ”we will win the next one” after a loss. The ups and downs is something you find out, you just can't live without. And that is why, I bother.

My English Lesson
I am going to school, better late than never, and I want to write a few things in English, to get better. This is one way of doing it, even though it might not be interesting. Hopefully it is OK with Netsdaily :-).
PERFECT
Tell her you are a fan…….short for fanatic!!!!
Awesome
Truly one of the best FanPosts ever on this site. You touched on one of the reasons I could never be a Yankees fan: being a sports fan means learning how to deal with the rhythm of things you cannot control. The ups, downs, and (if you’re a Mets fan) unexpected heartbreaks are important to learn how to deal with as a fan. The Yankees have so much money that they never truly experience the downs and the redemption of success.
I became a Nets fan through being a UCONN Huskies fanatic. My father and I loved following coach Cal at UMASS and were bored with the Knicks. When the Nets hired Cal we both instantly switched allegiances and started following the Nets in a way we never had when we followed the Knicks. Watching Chris Gatling and Kendall Gill when the Knicks had Ewing and Houston was not easy, but we were all rewarded a few years later by the Kidd era.
Of course, we have been all the way back down to 12 wins, but the future looks bright. And at least we don’t have to root for those two ego clowns in Manhattan.

Well, then we are mates :)
I’m from Portugal, and I don’t even liked basketball, until I saw NBA basketball, but when I saw Kidd throwing alley-oops to Martin and Jefferson, I became an instant Nets fan.
DWill all the way to the Finals!! some day, very close...
Born in NY and raised in NJ
I’ve been a huge Nets fan since Middle School when i started playing organized ball. Now i live in Virginia Beach and i dont get to see much Nets basketball which has been tough. I hope that with the new rebuilt team that it’ll entice me to pay the ridiculous DirecTV fees for the YES network lol. Or maybe we’ll start getting some ESPN time…
Great story StefanN!

Congratulations on the baby! Hopefully being a Nets fan through the tumultuous years will finally pay off.
I'm a Knick fan
And I sort of like the Nets. The street is a one way one, I suppose :(
Stainer of mountaintops.
It's ok
At least we can appreciate that you like the Nets. We wont blaming for losing your senses and being a Knicks fan ;)

Its says
“You’re a Nets fan? I am also Danish! I was born here in New Jersey but my mom and dad are Danish. We visit Denmark every year. But I am not that good at reading and writing Danish, which you can probably see.”
Congratulations on the baby, and best wishes!
Great, great story. Glad to see you stayed loyal from that far away, and it may just pay off a great deal! Stick around on ND, man!
Great Post!
And I agree, your English is excellent.
I am a bit envious of you though for enjoying the technology of today. I wish I had that when I was living abroad. I became a Nets fan as a child in 1993, but my parents moved overseas 4 years later and I couldn’t keep up with anything. When I returned to America in 2001, I was completely lost. Who is this Kobe Bryant guy? What happened to Jordan?
It was overwhelming, so I decided to focus on my newly found love.. Soccer (of course). Surely enough, the Nets.. MY NETS.. make it to the Finals that year. Wow… imagine the shock. That was enough to get me focused again. But I always regret not watching that season from the start… arguably the best Nets season ever. Luckily, I have the great community at Netsdaily constantly reliving it.
Thank you very much
I would like to thank you all for the kind words – I really appreciate it, and hopefully, I get to write a FanPost or two in the near future.
BKNets Fan: Du skriver fint dansk. Hvor i Danmark tager I hen?
The rest of you: I was just telling BKNets Fan that his Danish is fine – he wrote that he thought otherwise.
mange tak
Ver sommer tager vi hen til vors sommerhus i ebeltoft.
Det er et meget flot stede
Great story, Stefan!
I myself am from Romania, and currently studying in the UK. I got to see the Nets live last season when they came to London, and I’m still hoping they won’t sacrifice the European games this year.
My background with the Nets is pretty much the same as yours! Started round the time Vince Carter headed towards the Garden State. Never thought that I’d get to see them live or even lead a whole website dedicated to them. But I guess being a fan pays off :)
Looking forward to reading more from you!

Wait...
I thought you were going to go on a 15 minute rant about how the Nets can’t possibly keep D-Will, won’t get Dwight, and will have mortgaged the foreseeable future, as a result, quickly propelling them back to the bottom/dregs of the league. And then you went and got all positive and stuff. Good read, and good to know we’ve got a Dane on board with us. I’ve got a good friend in Austria who’s a big Nets fan, as well, and I applaud you both for your continued support.
Dude next time im in Denmark
We’re watching a Nets game.

Oh snap.
Umm, I live in Nepal and chose the Nets as my favorite team before the Jason Kidd days. Through all the tough times, I have stuck with them. My English is not quite extraordinary either.
Thanks for sharing, man!
Just goes to show that Prokhorov’s vision of a global franchise is well-founded, indeed! It’s great knowing that there are more fans of our team, than simply in the tri-state area of the northeast US.
T O' NY
agreed...
