Lockout Rules Lifted Wednesday

Multiple reports state that NBA executives have been told that they can start talking to agents about signing players at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, and practice facilities will open to players on Thursday. Deals can't be official until December 9 when free agency and training camps open, but there's nothing to stop teams from making handshake deals.

Coaches are anxious to get players back into gyms and begin working with them, but until December 9, only trainers and strength and conditioning coaches will be permitted on the court with players. Coaches and management can't even watch. Marshon Brooks was supposed to arrive in New Jersey Tuesday while Jordan Farmar and Jordan Williams flew out of Europe on Tuesday night. Damion James has also tweeted that he's on his way to New Jersey.

which means gossip galore in the meantime

2010-2011 = acquire an All-Star via cap space as Thorn himself said
2011-2012 = make the playoffs without hindering future flexibility
2012 off-season = sign the second All-Star
2012-2013 = make a run for the championship

Mission accomplished thus far.

You can bet on it.

Remember the perennial early July “quiet period” when no one was allowed to sign free agents yet the rumors all leaked. By the time the moratorium ended we already knew where everyone was going. 95% of them went down in 2010

Happy to see Billy King graduated in an accelerated "how to make a trade" class in just one night :)

So I guess this is the NBA's way of admitting

that having training camp and free agency open simultaneously on Dec. 9 was a ridiculous idea. Thus, they’re basically moving up free agency to essentially allow players to be in position for camp on Dec. 9.

Several tweets today suggesting he is in great shape.

Maybe DJames is trying to send a message to BK and DWill to save a big spot at SF for him.

That is why I don’t want to spend more than a discount price for a 3 year contract for AK47.

I can live with 42% within the paint

He have to except the fact that Lopez isn’t a dominating big man in the paint, but a nightmare match up for Centers who don’t like to play on the perimeter. The same type of player made Kristic a fan favorite here.

mostly because he was the only Net oppositions had to stop, so he was double teamed a lot. But he can’t do it by himself. Not comparing Lopez to a star, but many stars with a jumper usually rely on there jumper alot to bail them out.

Unless the Nets can see that the surgery appears to be good enough for him in the long term, there’s always the risk that he’s spending a lot of the time in a suit.

aw c’mon man. that’s turrible (charles barkley voice)

by avilanets85 on Nov 29, 2011 11:13 PM EST reply actions

Unrealistic but I had an idea

This wont happen but I would totally be on board if the Nets started the season with Josh Smith and Nene as the starting 4 and 5.

The Nets could sign Nene to a contract of roughly 12-15 million and put together a trade with Atlanta surrounding Lopez and Smith. After ridding themselves of Outlaws contract the nets would still have enough flexibility to sign a decent SF.

I know this wont happen but it was just a thought.

by nygiants1 on Nov 29, 2011 11:15 PM EST reply actions

Not a bad idea....

but BK will never trade Lopez for Smith, it would only be for Howard, no less…

by bbatts30 on Nov 29, 2011 11:19 PM EST up reply actions

dont be so sure of that

Williams became available suddenly so another player could always be had. Signing Nene puts the Nets in position to trade Lopez for a non big. Lopez needs to represent a star player at some point and I think theres a better chance of that happening through a trade than it does on the court.

by nygiants1 on Nov 29, 2011 11:20 PM EST up reply actions

besides what would be the point of getting smith he operates from the perimeter just like lopez does sometimes even worse because lopez can actually shoot

by nygiants1 on Nov 29, 2011 11:26 PM EST up reply actions

This is true.

But not at the cost of Brook.

I have more faith in him then that and he can bring back better then Smith in trade.

by vincecarter4pres on Nov 29, 2011 11:27 PM EST up reply actions

like i said

it was just an idea and was curious what people would think. I also think the Nets would likely get the better assets in return in a trade with Atlanta.

Not married to it. In reality I want the Nets to remain patient and wait for the time to strike whether it be in FA or during the season. There are so many ways they can go and it wont be until Deron Williams resigns or signs elsewhere that we’ll know if they chose the right path.

by nygiants1 on Nov 29, 2011 11:29 PM EST up reply actions

Lopez

can score but he has some serious faults in his game. Toughness both mental and physical, immaturity, lack of basketball iq and commitment are all issues with him. Does anybody really think Brook is busting his tail to be the best player he can be in the offseason? He doesnt have “it”

Good memories?

I was PO at the Nets for breaking up that team, but it was for the best in the end. Kittle’s has a career ending back injury, Martin never found his knee’s, we used the picks we got from the Nuggets to land the best dunker and one of the best scorers, to pair with the best playmaker and passer. Then injury bug hit Kristic, Kidd developed a migraine that he was traded away from, then we get the great Yi , and we finally get the young stud in Lee. Make matters better the Heats get Lebron, Bosh, and Wade and the Nets land Petro, Graham, and Outlaw. Its been an interesting 4-5 years for us Nets fans lol

it all comes down to what he is asking for

12-15 as most said it here is acceptable. Shows Deron we are trying to put a competitive team together, and if Dwight is on the table, Lopez would still be available.

You put Nene and get him 2-3 EASY baskets from what Deron can provide, he will outshine k-mart when he was with Jkidd.

No pass first PG has ever played with Nene, and they had two season when they had AI and Melo who took 70% of the shots for Denver combined.

by danxcr on Nov 30, 2011 12:18 AM EST up reply actions

His TS% is off the chart man

he averages like 15PPG with only 8 shots. We double his shot attempts, he averages like 30PPG. We would be stupid not to sign this underrated player. Its a steal for us to get this guy, like how it was a steal to lockup Outlaw for 5 years.

The New Jersey Nets are prepared to offer a trade package featuring Brook Lopez and two future first-round picks to acquire Dwight Howard before the Orlando Magic center becomes a free agent in July 2012, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com this week that, to sweeten the proposal, New Jersey would likewise offer to take back the contract of Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu, who has three seasons left on his contract worth just under $35 million. Absorbing Turkoglu’s remaining salary would become financially feasible for the Nets after the expected release of swingman Travis Outlaw

They're not getting Yao Ming back or something

But they’re still getting something better than Gallo. Brook’s still valuable, just not the superstar top 20 guy everyone is ready to proclaim him to be

Who leaks these stories?! or are they just made up....

They talked about trading Favors as soon as the ink dried and his (and the team’s) play suffered.

Risking the present for dreams of the future, it’s Russian roulette.
I hope this works out otherwise they could lose everything.

Nets Front Office has the advantage they speak Russian

But that won’t help much w/ negotiations.

деньги will tho and Mikhail’s got a lot of that./ $$$$

this seems tricky...

how can they do this if they are going to be pursuing Chandler and friends? Orlando can wait and wait and wait and then boom Chandler, Nene, and company will all be signed and what if Orlando says no..

Otis took his chance 1 time already he knows he will get fired as soon as season will end

As for Nene and Chandler i bet Proky already told B King to keep cap space for D12 and not to over pay second tear players. Like i said before B King went to Turkey for a reason i bet he had few words with D Will about that trade and DWill said to him it’s D12 or i’m out. I Bet niether Nene or Chandler will be good for DWill to resign.

SMH it just doesnt stop.

Despite the Nets’ well-known interest, Los Angeles and New York continue to be widely presumed to be Howard’s preferred destinations.

WTF is Brooklyn NOT New York? Do they not see that big ass arena outside on flatbush and atlantic going up? Or is the hate blinding them from seeing it…smfh.

by 1stnamelastname on Nov 30, 2011 12:54 AM EST reply actions

I was also wondering if they noticed...

The Knix will have like 13.5 million in cap space if they renounce and trade away every single last player on their roster except Melo and Amar’e who will be making $20 mill a piece at that time?

Or if they realize Chauncey Billups and Iman Shumpert with Landry Fields and Toney Douglas thrown in for good measure isn’t a good enough trade package to land O.J. Mayo?

The Knix are just not an option.

It’s not my Knix hate, it’s not opinion, it’s fact.

by vincecarter4pres on Nov 30, 2011 12:58 AM EST up reply actions

Are people really sleeping on a Brook and Nene front court?

That would be incredibly tough to match up with on both ends. Especially with a PG that can get them the ball in the right place.

WHAT other team can pair em up again

if this deal went through? Unless they hate each other, they will stick together.

and to add

this is what happens when you have a STUD PG on your team, you take risks like this.

by danxcr on Nov 30, 2011 1:13 AM EST up reply actions

If this rumor is true

it just shows Nets are seriously chasing Dwight and using both Dwight and Deron on each other to sign extensions. Only team able to do so :)

they made the offer for dwight

so it starts brook cant handle this kind of of spotlight though

by mightymosdefinition on Nov 30, 2011 1:09 AM EST reply actions

I can see Lopez is going to come down with the symptoms we saw in Favors

until he either gets traded or wants nothing to do with the team thats trying to deal him.

Lol, you guys keep cracking jokes on my star Center

I will miss him if he gets traded, but I’m not holding my breath on this rumor. I’ve seen this with the Melo Drama before, and Otis will drag this down to the end til he robs a team. All 30 teams in the NBA will put there trade in for sure lol

Orlando

will want to rebuild if they trade Howard, cap space and picks are more important.

by danxcr on Nov 30, 2011 1:48 AM EST up reply actions

Sorry but BK doesn’t have a clue how to be a GM.

I hope people don’t get their hopes up too much because this is a pretty lame offer the Nets are making. Here’s why.. if the Magic don’t say yes right away, Lopez is going to play badly and the Magic are going to reject the trade entirely.

by mytoemytoe on Nov 30, 2011 1:15 AM EST reply actions

They aren’t looking to start over, they just got a new arena and they want to be competitive.

by mytoemytoe on Nov 30, 2011 1:24 AM EST up reply actions

if your best player tells you i'm out thgat means you start over

they will competative in future just like they did after shaq left

by Aidar Berlinbayev on Nov 30, 2011 1:36 AM EST up reply actions

Can’t deny that, all I know is MeloDrama last year was pathetic and it was partly the fault of whoever in the Nets front office was leaking everything to the press.

by mytoemytoe on Nov 30, 2011 1:25 AM EST up reply actions

I should add that the reason I think it’s lame is because it’s a public offer. Billy should be making calls to everyone in the league but why oh why does every single thing the Nets do get whispered to the press?

I smell a Yormark.

by mytoemytoe on Nov 30, 2011 1:18 AM EST reply actions

yeah

thats what i dont like either..these public trade rumors burned us last yr.
It does send the right message to players that we are aggressive and want to add talent to win!

by 1stnamelastname on Nov 30, 2011 1:32 AM EST up reply actions

Trade rumors always find themselves public.

Look at the Rondo rumors, the Chris Paul rumors, the Roy amnesty rumors, wait til tomorrow, half the league is going to be playing for the Knix and the Lakers by 3:47PM EST.

by vincecarter4pres on Nov 30, 2011 2:41 AM EST up reply actions

But while the Clippers like Paul, sources say they like Dwight Howard even more. The Clippers have made it clear to executives throughout the league that they will do whatever it takes — outside of trading Griffin — to get Howard, who will become a free agent at the same time as Paul, either this season or next summer. So they will not move the players they’ll try to use to get Howard to New Orleans for Paul.

- Chris Boussard

It must be frustrating for Otis Smith to read these headlines that are mostly just made up by ESPN.
