Crawford Wants To Play With D-Will
In response to a Nets fan's tweeted question about who he'd most like to play with, free agent guard Jamal Crawford listed Deron Williams right at the top, ahead of Derrick Rose, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
Crawford's name has circulated as a possible Nets' target, even with Anthony Morrow (and MarShon Brooks) on the Nets roster.
Crawford, Sixth Man of the Year in 2010, was paid $10.1 million last season with the Hawks. Over the past two seasons, he has averaged 16.1 ppg in 155 games, all off the bench.

he'd be perfect
But I like brooks and morrow

Don't need him
He’s slightly undersized, just like Brooks and Morrow. He only contributes on one end of the floor, just like Morrow. He won’t give the nets anything aside from isolation offense that they don’t already have for a fraction of the price. He won’t be very good with Deron either since he’s only useful when he has the ball in his hands, and most of the time it’s gonna be with Deron. He’s not some great spot up shooter or moves well without the ball like Rip Hamilton

would probably come at a high price, is getting up there in age, and again, we have Brooks and Morrow
so unless there’s some sort of trade and he comes cheap…
argh, why am I speculating! still no CBA deal so I won’t speculate. (though it is fun)
We also have Farmar and Gaines, both of whom are expected to be improved over last season and can play alongside DWill.
DWill playing some SG could change Nets’ thinking.
I don’t blame DWill for liking Crawford, but the limited money can be better spent.
I had a feeling.
but hope not. We need vet leadership at the 2, with some defense.

Hopefully VC would want to finish his career alongside of DWill, in front of fans who appreciate him.
Hump already has first hand experience of how DWill helps his game and so should AK47.
That is a good starting point.
I don't see what is wrong....A veteran SG/scorer
Marshon Brooks can learn from him…since they r very similar players, as what i heard…We have to get him at the right price though

Billy King has a reputation for making big trades.
Courtney Lee for Troy Murphy in four-team deal he initiated.
Terrence Williams, Joe Smith and two second round picks for Sasha Vujacic and two first round picks in a three-team deal he initiated.
Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, two first round picks and $3 million in cash for Deron Williams.
Troy Murphy and a second round pick (2012) for Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric.
A second round pick (2014) and Lakers’ first round pick for the rights to MarShon Brooks.
A second round pick (2013) and $1.5 million for the rights to Bojan Bogdanovic.

i could see anyone but D-Will going
Lopez only in a Howard deal because in spite of all the silly trade scenarios, that is the only deal i can foresee where Lopez gets included. They wouldn’t include him in Melo or D-WIll deals. They’re not going to deal him for Josh Smith.

They’re not going to deal him for Josh Smith
That’s if the Nets don’t sign Howard outright. If the 2011-12 season is cancelled and Howard takes less to come to the Nets I could see a deal for Smith using Lopez. Other than that I see him as a core piece – for now.
There's no way we trade Lopez for Smith
1. It’s harder to find a good center, especially a good scoring center who makes free throws
2. He wasn’t included for superior players in potential trades
3. Lopez>Smith

-Feburary 23, 10:54 am.
I think Nene is ours if we want him...
Tyson would be interesting.
if we sign Chandler we better get a high scoring wing
we need that 3rd option on offense and getting Chandler instead of Nene or West would make the need for a scoring wing even bigger.
Or trade for a SF that can score...
Or Brooks is ready on day one (doubtful).
Chandler would do wonders on defense…IF he can guard the oposing PF.
Chandler is a game-changing defensive force
I think he would do OK defending 4s but taking him away from the basket would be kind of wasting a big part of his impact on the game.
I feel the same.
I have no problem signing him, I just fear what you said coming true.

If not for having Marshon already, I might be interested in JR at a very low price.

A lot of players are going to want to play in a billion dollar arena in brooklyn...
And for the richest owner probably in all of team sports… The days of the Nets being a joke of a franchise are over…
Well
Who would want to play in Utah? The arena is one of the best in the league but the team was always injury prone (lead by Boozer) and was never elite. Right now, the Nets have a top point guard, top center, they’re young, they’re going to Brooklyn, and they can land Dwight Howard. Everything for the Nets is looking up, for the Jazz it was always looking down
Top center? You mean Brook Lopez? That guy who was one of the most inefficient scorers in the league last season while playing bad defense?

I bet, besides Dwight, you can’t even name 3 better centers. “This league doesn’t have enough good centers” is not an excuse
Bogut and Horford are common arguments
Bogut is injured too often, Horford is playing out of position., not a real center

Back on topic...
No to Crawford. The Nets don’t need a VC styled chucker, minus VC’s passing ability.
Yes, JR Smith would be much worse than Crawford. But that doesn’t mean Crawford is a good fit for the Nets.
Nets need to concentrate on defensive SF’s. VC is a closed chapter and shouldn’t be re-opened. Ideally, Nets need to get at Battier type SF. I wouldn’t mind AK-47 or Tayshaun Prince. Someone who can lock down quick opposing 1,2,3’s to enable switching on pick and roll’s.
You simply cannot undervalue pick and roll defense.
by furnace on Nov 25, 2011 2:33 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
Ok I admit...
true true, if it is what it takes to keep Deron, I guess the Nets will have to do it. But that is the only reason to get Crawford. The only.
There is no way the nets should take on bad contracts to keep dwill...
What would be the point? If the nets waste cap space on bad contracts, they will not win championships.
But king cannot run this franchise based on what dwill thinks...
We will never win that way…
Also true. I think that there is a middle line here…
King will do what it takes to keep Deron happy, within reason. Although I hate the idea, my personal opinion is that getting Crawford to keep Deron happy is within reason. Comparatively speaking, getting the cancer that is JR Smith would not be within reason.
Of course, this is all speculation by us. There is no way for any of us to know which players Deron would like King to bring to the Nets other than Dwight Howard.

But king cannot run this franchise based on what dwill thinks…

He wanted out, the Nets gave him what he wanted. I dont hold a grudge against Kidd, and im sure the Nets dont either. The guy was at the end of his career, without a title, and the team was going downhill. Im sure it was nothing personal.
Yea, but why come back here?
And nothing personal? I was PO he left, especially the way he did but I can’t blame him. And how old is Kidd now? Close to 40? His time is cutting down, and for a player like him to EVER go to a team where he could not start is absurd. He’s had an amazing career, and finally won a Championship, and just like Shaq said in his retirement speech, Kidd might be ready to leave the game on his terms. The pipe dreams you people come up with is amazing, honestly.

I would have preferred TMac on the cheap to Crawford.
He has the height to play the SF position...
If his back holds up, he would be a great addition…
I don't necessarily think he's the best fit for this team
but if Deron would like him to join the team, and i’m sure they’ve talked about it, I’m not really going to oppose it. Deron did express his desire for vets to come over, getting guys like Nene, Jamal, Prince/Battier, and a cheap MLE guy would be decent.

Can you blame him? lol
when your being double team and triple team and your driving into the paint only to met by the whole team, who do you pass it out to? or do you continue going trying to get a foul or making a shot? or even forcing the defense to guard you out of the paint by taking long shots and many fade away shots? There were about a 7 part video on youtube which showed most of his tough shots, crazy shots, big time shots, highlight dunks, and circus shots, and its just mind boggling to see how many ways this guy use to be able to score, not to mention the lack of respect he gets from the refs when compared to today stars. I’m clearly a homer when it comes to Vince Carter, and I might be the only person on this planet who can honestly say “He is my favorite player”.

I hate Crawford’s “game”. He runs hot and cold. He was cold the entire time he was with the Knicks and shot like 35% from the field. AND his defense is no better than Morrow’s or probably MarShon’s. NO NO NO. We need a small forward who can score and defend.
Paul from Sunny Delray Beach, Florida
Agree, but the point of this story is more to point out the effect Dwill has on free agents
I doubt Billy would sign Jamal as he basically would add very little to this team with Morrow/Brooks at the 2 and a big hole at the 3 and 4 positions.

I'm guessing they would have about 5-7 days after it is written up for GM's and owners to study and learn about the new CBA
Then, I am guessing, there would be about a 1 week free agency period/trade period. After that would probably be about a week of training camp and maybe 1-2 preseason games before opening night.

twitter: Howard Beck: As you can see by the lineups this is basically the same people discussing same issues. The antitrust lawyers are not part of the talks
off topic
but has anybody seen Metta World Peace’s tweets lately, they are golden

As for progress in today’s NBA talks, high-ranking league source says: “They literally just started talking about the actual deal points.”
Over/under for when the breaking off of negotiations happens?
I’ll put it at one hour from now.

My sources close to the conversation
confirm dinner remains a major problem in negotiations. The players are pushing for roast beef, the owners are pushing for sandwiches. Roast beef sandwiches… nope.
how is this a good sign?

Another good sign: NBA owners have Labor Relations Committee conference call scheduled for later tonite, sources say
Dwight or bust....
Superbowl or bust...
Labor relations committee has to approve any deal

my prediction of the meeting ending at 10 is coming up (very quickly!) ..vincecarter4prez says 11
he may be right! (especially the part where he says nothing will get accomplished today)
i am still on black friday sleep schedule
just woke up from a nap! so i expect 3 am! talking about thanksgiving ^^
Brian Mahoney: Rejoining the talks from somewhere is David Stern, who apparently had better things to do than listen to old ideas again. Just walked in.
ROFLCOPTER!
It’s like a bad sitcom.

The last thing this team needs is
a shorter version of Outlaw that is ALLOWED to throw up as many shots as he wants.

one more post before I go to bed (hopefully)
I mean, Monday is technically the next business day. so while Stern says 30 days, and he does mean 30 days from the 25th..buttt …maybe they can tweak that to a few days less because…
nevermind I’m tired. I’m not making sense. talk to you guys tomorrow..or tonight if I can’t sleep!
not a good sign
the beat writers don’t seem as optimistic because of the long meeting

Unreal right?
Kessler got on speakerphone and asks for a 51/49 split, instantly shot down by Stern and co.
And now supposedly talks have taken a step backwards and owners a little salty over the request.
No season in 3…2…1…

here is the breakdown since press conference isnt being shown
NEW YORK — A handshake deal is in place, and the NBA season will begin on Christmas Day.
David Stern and Billy Hunter announced a tentative agreement to end the NBA lockout shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday in a small conference room at a law firm in the General Motors Building in Manhattan.
Gentlemen, start your engines!
The settlement, first reported by Ken Berger of CBSSports.com, came on the 149th day of the work stoppage that forced the postponement of the regular season. On the 25th day of meetings between the two sides, the framework of the deal was agreed to after 15 hours of talks.
The handshake deal effectively ends the players’ anti-trust suit against the owners, as well as the owners’ lawsuit against the players which was filed over the summer.
"We’ve reached a tentative understanding that is subject to a variety of approvals," commissioner David Stern said. "We’re optimistic that will all come to pass and the season will begin on Dec. 25, Christmas Day, with a tripleheader."

Alan Hahn: Next formalities include reforming union, turning settlement into a CBA and having players ratify it. Owners, too, must agree…. 1 minute ago
