The Latest: Besiktas Goes With Odom After Brook Lopez Talks Fail
The latest reports from Turkish hoops sites say that Besiktas has finally found a big man to join Deron Williams It's NOT Brook Lopez.
Instead say the reports, Besiktas has turned to Lamar Odom, Kris Humphries' brother-in-law. Reports differ on whether Lopez turned down an offer from the Black Eagles.
Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that while Besiktas offered Lopez a contract, they were prepared to go with Odom if Lopez turned them down. Marc Stein, on the other hand, says Besiktas always preferred Odom, but negotiated with Lopez as well. The Turkish League team could only sign one more American player.
Lopez would have brought to nine the number of Nets players and draft picks who've found refuge overseas since June, joining Deron Williams, Jordan Williams, Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Sundiata Gaines, Mario West, Dan Gadzuric and Bojan Bogdanovic. As Al Iannazzone writes, no team is more ready.

This could be a good sign: the season wil start on Christmas, DWill wants to win with the Nets and maybe stay.
HMM
DWill Farmar
JCrawford Brooks
Deng James
Nene Jwill
Lopez Petro
Chi gets Ammo and a 2012 pick
Nah Chicago can keep Deng
the draft is too deep and Deng is paid too much for what he actually does. Our next 3 needs to be able to create a shot by himself, shoot, and defend. Deng is a system player who relies on others. This means that a team stopping Williams would also bog down Deng.
Happy to see Billy King graduated in an accelerated "how to make a trade" class in just one night :)
I think he'll be flying back to get ready for the NBA season before he even gets started, but if not...
It could be good news if Brook plays well, but bad news if he doesn’t. (In terms of Williams’ perception of the team going forward.)

He seems setup well to play at a high level in the European game.
Still needs to drastically improve his passing but he looked better at that at the end of the season especially with Deron, albeit in a very small sample size.

This is very significant news, because even if the NBA lockout ends in the next few days, it would still be beneficial for Brook to be playing with DWill until close to the 1st preseason game with the Nets.
There is no better way for BLo to get into regular season shape.
And Besiktas would benefit by winning as many games as possible to get into the EuroLeague next year.
HELL Yes!
if the season doesn’t start next month…then we’ll still have something to watch. Our two best players on the same team…awesome.
@Al_Iannazzone: BREAKING NEWS: Nets are close to acquiring Deron WIlliams from Utah, sources told The Record.

This wouldn't be happening without DWill's request to team with his fellow Nets player.
A sign that DWill can kill 2 birds with one stone, by helping Besitkas and The Nets at the same time.
This is awesome news
I just wish this had been the case a few weeks ago, the more time these guys work together the better.

this shows the Nets organization’s commitment to targeting and growing their international audience. is there another team in the NBA with close to as many players actively staying in shape overseas during the labor debacle?
i wonder who instigated this move from brook though. was Deron saying, “hey, come play in turkey with me… you’ll love it and it will only help us once we’re back state-side” or… brook lopez saying, “hey, maybe if i go play with deron in turkey, he’ll be more likely to stay alongside myself and other Nets into the future.”

Did you report that Brook came cheaper than the alternatives (from SLAM article)?
A number of reports in recent days had the Beşiktaş search linked with names like Kevin Love, Luol Deng, Lamar Odom, Nene and Marcin Gortat, but Lopez made for reportedly a somewhat less expensive option than Odom or Gortat, for example."
Good old Brook isn’t motivated by money.
He's less expensive because of insurance.

As everyone has said, this is great news. It’ll be great for Lopez’s development.
I love the NBA as much as the next person, but given a choice (and the agony of watching hockey all season), I’d gamble on a lost 2011 that leads to a free-for-all in 2012.

I’m sure that DWill was pulling for Brook to come to Turkey.
Even if Deron thinks it's funny
It comes out like you’re mocking Brook as a pansy who values comics over basketball. Not exactly what you want him believing about his team’s 2nd-best player when free agency is just around the corner.

Everyone already knows about Brook. DWill would not have gone along with making fun of Brook if he didn't already like him.
Its his “soft” reputation that is his problem, and it is up to Brook to prove it wrong on the court.
It is only what Orlando thinks that counts right now.
Besides, at the time I wrote it, and DWill responded, we all expected Brook to be given a chance to prove everyone wrong in Turkey.
Shortly later though, we learned that Odom was the choice, though we still don’t know if Brook had a say in the decision.
Since this is an overseas B Ball thread, where all the JR Smith BFF's at now?!

Odom has reached an agreement and the team can only sign 1 American player besides DWill
The coach's vision makes sense to me
Lamar can do everything Brook can and more.
Besiktas wanted a big man from the NBA even before Cleveland Cavaliers forward Semih Erden suffered a thumb injury in the win over Gottingen. According to various media reports in Turkey, Besiktas also entered into talks with Williams’ New Jersey teammate Brook Lopez this week while waiting on Odom’s decision.
But Aktas reported earlier Thursday that Besiktas coach Ergin Ataman preferred Odom even though Lopez is more of a traditional center. Besiktas can sign only one more foreign player in addition to Williams.

I am glad that Brook doesn’t seem to be going overseas. Deron had to come back from an injury, and needed the playing time to get his game back. Lopez for Iggy would be perfect our defense would be crazy
Deron, Iggy, Dwight
Billy King would get fired if he made that trade

Haha for real.
That is not one of the players i was talking about lol.

I'd definitely trade him for LMA.
Better trade bait for Dwight anyway.
by vincecarter4pres on Nov 24, 2011 10:37 PM EST up reply actions
That I would do
Iggy, however, not a chance!

LMA was a beast last year, although I would like to see him do it for another season.
Higher BBIQ, much more athletic, seems more dedicated although this isn’t proven right now, is a plus defender even while taking on a huge offensive load and he knows how to pass out of the post.
His numbers were pretty sick for awhile there and he lead a so so squad to a very respectable record.
His impact is just much greater then Brook right now.
Brook has the potential to get close, but I’m not convinced.
LMA hasn’t topped off yet either.
I also think at his age and with that bargain of a contract he would be a huge trade chip if needed.

hell yea I would ship brook out in heart beat for Lamarcus
My lil man.....can't tell me god don't exist.

Aldrige comes from a winner tho
If he came east there’s no doubt in my mind he’d be a star.

Yea
Not only has LMA broken out as a star PF but he also has a great contract for the value.
Yeah if people salivate at the idea of Brook and Dwight...
Imagine LMA and Dwight.
by vincecarter4pres on Nov 24, 2011 11:44 PM EST up reply actions
Aldridge, Griffin, Dwight and maybe Love depending on the system you put him in
thats its, not trading brook for any guards/forwards unless his name is Wade, Lebron, Durant, Rose, and maybe Paul and Evans(pending injury)

they'd be trading a good young center
w/o getting a big man back.

BULLETIN!!!!
THE NEW JERSEY NETS WOULD NOT TRADE BROOK LOPEZ FOR EITHER CARMELO ANTHONY OR DERON WILLIAMS!
END OF BULLETIN…DEAL WITH IT.
"It's as sweet as it ever was, I'll tell you. Now, hopefully, we started something and we can win some more championships, but we're going to enjoy this one right now. Have a little champagne." --Julius Erving, May 12, 1976, ABA champion Nets locker room.
Thank you sir!
This is exactly what I tell people on another forum who are fans of other teams when we’re talking trades.
Sure, we have Deron and things have changed, so he may not be untouchable anymore, but he’s not getting dealt for some overpaid semi-star, especially when a lot of these teams secretly(or publicly) want to deal these guys for nothing more then a middling protected 1st or two and/or a B rate prospect and some salary relief.
And he especially isn’t being dealt for anything short of a retradable straight stud until we know what’s up with Dwight and how highly the Magic organization value Brook.

i was ragging on him the whole day. i knew he didn't have the heart
Avery Johnson can go Outlaw himself.
Hey Avery: 我觉得你做得不是很好
NETS BASKETBALL…. JUST DEAL WITH IT!
IDK let's see why he didn't go.
Maybe Odom was there first choice and the offer was made to Brook with his knowledge it was only on the table if Odom declined.
Also, maybe he couldn’t get insured properly.

First APE picture to get booted over.
Well the people that were always bad mouthing him are still bad mouthing him.
And then some are just a little disappointed and then some are just quick to switch and hate lol, and of course there are the in betweeners.

I called it right again
Once again I called it. toots horn
Brook got the call thru his agent and prob thought about going overseas for a good 5 min b4 getting scared. Robin going over as a practice player? Sounded like nonsense. The fact that kevin Love and Deron spoke about teaming up and Lopez and Deron haven’t speaks volumes. Brook needs to step up and become a man, a leader. That aww shucks teenager role is getting old really fast. Brook your feet are to the fire this coming season, all eyes on you.

King should trade Brook while he can still coast on benefit of youth
Avery Johnson can go Outlaw himself.

Or.....
Not trade him, keep a 24 yr old big man with sky high potential who already scores 20 points per game, is 7 ft tall, 260 lbs, and oh yeah, has a deadly mid range Jumper.

I am not in favor of trading Brook at all. Lets wait and see. I still say go after Dwight see how they mesh together and then trade Brook if it doesnt work out. Either way you lose nothing.

What's the rush?
He’s a bargain for what he’s making now.

Yeah but for how much longer?
Unless he turns a major corner he’s going to lose value and then be a guy you have to spend a majority of your cap on.
Not saying to knee jerk and say trade him for Iggy or Kevin Martin, but there maybe deals to be had that you have to entertain.
by vincecarter4pres on Nov 24, 2011 10:43 PM EST up reply actions
As long as he's on that rookie deal :)
The last 2 years were depressing to watch at times I think he picked up some bad habits…
I’d like to see how he responds to the playoff atmosphere. He was beasting his rookie year I’d like to see that fire from him consistently.

SO Love turned down the offer and he's a hero, but Brook turns it down and he's a seamstress?
Listen Brook has been called out for his heart before for good reason and doesn’t deserve a pass anymore, but let’s wait and see the reasons behind this before condemning the guy.

I'm not convinced Brook turned down offer, but rather procrastinated while Lamar finally agreed.
Apparently they have a different way to negotiate contracts in Turkey, vs. the USA.
How can you make formal offers to 2 players at the same time?
I also can’t imagine that Odom would be cheaper to insure than Lopez.
I also can’t imagine that Odom would be cheaper to insure than Lopez.
I wouldn’t be so sure.
Brook is on the eve of entering a very lucrative contract coming off his rookie deal.
When it comes to an agreement on what his next deal, on what it would construe, that topic is up to much debate.
I doubt the insurance is just about what their current contract value is.

Get rid of Lopez. He's a Bagnani wannabe.
Soccer players are more physical than Lopez.
Just kidding , but not really !

Wtf is up with all the Lopez haters??
what is wrong with you guys? You have no clue as to why he didn’t go. and dont say Disney or comic books. He’s apart of the team and has been very efficient for us. Stop hatin dammit.
sorry for saying wtf NI, felt it was appropriate
