Billy King On Magic's Journey
Billy King was a coach at Illinois State University 20 years ago when Magic Johnson announced that he had AIDS and would have to retire. He spoke with Bloomberg TV this week on the implications of that day, and not just about how Magic made athletes AIDS aware. King also speaks about the value of having the Hall of Famer mentor players about post-NBA possibilities, linking him up with Allen Iverson while Sixer GM and bringing him in to meet with the Nets.

sorry, a bit late to the party I am.
"It's as sweet as it ever was, I'll tell you. Now, hopefully, we started something and we can win some more championships, but we're going to enjoy this one right now. Have a little champagne." --Julius Erving, May 12, 1976, ABA champion Nets locker room.
I will never forget watching the Lakers playing the Nets on TV many years ago...
Magic was the star of the game, and of course the Lakers trounced a poor Nets team, but Johnson spent his whole interview time telling Nets fans to have faith in their Nets team and to support the team by coming out to the games….He did not utter one word of the Laker victory or of his great game. At that time I always thought Magic’s personality was kind of phony but he won me over that night…
He truly was/is an ambassador for the NBA and of course one of the greatest players of all time. Some argue he might of been the best all round player ever….
I wish him continued good health for many years to come….
