Reynolds Won't Return for Armor; Lee Prepares for D-League Draft
The Armor may be looking for a point guard Thursday night when the D-League draft roll is called. Their floor general from last year, Scottie Reynolds, had until Monday to commit to returning and decided against it. Reynolds, along with returning JamesOn Curry, were the best players on the Armor last season.
The draft, which is held by conference call, goes eight rounds. The Armor's first pick is #17, the first pick in the second round. The Armor traded their first round pick a year ago for the rights to Reynolds, the Villanova All-American. Milton Lee, the Nets director of minor league operations, will run the draft for the Armor.
Lee is also the featured player in the latest edition of Nets' "Destination: Springfield". Lee and Armor coach Bob MacKinnon Jr. are shown at the team's Open Workouts October 22-23. The Nets camera crew will also be on hand Thursday night for the D-League Draft.

hmm..is the new color scheme an indication of the teams colors when they move to Brooklyn?
I’m assuming NI or NetsDaily cannot say.
It's an SB Nation color scheme
Not a NetsDaily one.

off topic, but. . .
anyone else catch this from sheridan’s blog? http://sheridanhoops.com/2011/11/01/chris-paul-knicks/
the Berman article is complete nonsense and full of wrong information, it's sheer ignorance
Knicks media blowing smoke as usual. And Knickzzzzz fanz believe it of course, when they can check that if the numbers of the cap are those Berman points out they would still have no cap room for a max.The blind leading the blind.
???
Economic projections from sources say the salary cap will then grow to about $60-$61 million in 2012, when the Knicks will have the largest cap space in the league and have room to woo either Chris Paul, Deron Williams or Dwight Howard, who are slated to become free agents
I think it's fine.
by NetsMets4Life on Nov 1, 2011 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions
I mean Berman is so clueless he says this:
When Balkman, a former first-round pick in the Isiah Thomas Era, is sliced, his $1.7M salary won’t count toward the cap under the new provision.
Without Balkman taking up 2012 cap room
Does this idiot realize 25% of his salary would still count against their cap?
HAHAHA oh wow check this comment out.
Much like Melo, Paul to the Knicks is basically pre-ordained. The rest of the league might as well just accept it. Now whether or not that gets them a ring will have to play out over time, I have my doubts about his health and size, but we will see.
Dolan is no dummy, of course he wants this settled fast. The Garden practically prints money in their basement when the Knicks are in action. Hope something gets settled soon.
Left by none other than someone with the name “Mecca.”
I think it's fine.

To be honest...
I don’t see anything off-base in that comment. Everything seems spot-on to me.
(I’m not being facetious)
Chris Paul will be a Knick by 2012.
Even if he has to take a slight pay-cut.
It would be more then slight
They would only have around 13 million to sign him ( see elone’s math below). And that is if they renounce the rights to Fields and Douglas, and don’t sign their draft picks.
by dwill8brooklynbound on Nov 1, 2011 11:56 AM EDT up reply actions
Even if it's a (moderately) significant pay-cut...
He’ll be a Knick unless there’s a provision in the new CBA that prevents it.
The pay cut would be up around 7 or 8 million a year if they retain Fields/Douglas
That is a TON of money he is losing. (Max would be 18 million, they would have 13 million cap without Fields/Douglas, but if they keep those guys they would only have around 10 or 11 million to spend. Keep in mind that pretty much the entire rest of the roster would have to be minimum salary players so they’d be mediocre defensively and have no depth at all)
by dwill8brooklynbound on Nov 1, 2011 12:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Depends how much that cut is.
I think it's fine.
by NetsMets4Life on Nov 1, 2011 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Disagree.
They’ll work out the money. As I said, unless the new CBA prevents it, there is no doubt in my mind that Paul will be a Knick by 2013 (not 2012).
Well that's nice
But misguided.

Chris Paul has knee concerns
This contract has potential to be his last. You think he’s willing to sacrifice what will likely be about $7M per year over the length of a 5 year contract?
$35 million dollars he is going to give up to play for the Knicks?
Hey, maybe. But to say there is “no doubt” is indeed misguided.
Section 18, Row 7 at The Rock!
"Your 2010-2011 New Jersey Nets - It Is What It Is"
If he's willing to play for $13.9M
And have 8 minimum contract players, then yes I agree.
Of course, really all he has to say is “Knicks or nobody” to New Orleans on a trade, saying he’ll sign with them for $13.9M if he has to.
If I was NO, I’d call that bluff though.

then they will have to supporting cast and we(if Dwill stays) will consistently be smacking them around like we have done in the past.
Dwill / Howard and VERY GOOD supporting cast >>>>> Amare(bad Back) / Anthony (Ball Hog) / CP3 (Bad Knees) and VERY BAD Supporting Cast
Official Member of the "DIDN'T WANT TO TRADE DERRICK FAVORS, BUT HAPPY WE GOT D. WILLIAMS" Movement
Two things:
First, and more importantly, what’s the basis for claiming that the Nets will have a good supporting cast? Going under the assumption that they do actually get Howard — which is a stretch, in itself — what’s to say that they’ll have the cap-room to fill out the roster sufficiently? If they are to acquire Howard through a trade, they’re going to be taking back a bad contract with him (that’s a large reason why the Nets offer one the best trading partners to the Magic). I don’t think I’m willing to agree with the notion that the Nets will have a “very good” or even ‘good’ supporting cast.
Plus, let’s not forget that veterans will be flocking to play with Paul, Anthony and Stat in the Garden. I know many of you guys scoff at the mystique of Madison Square Garden, but players don’t.
If you want to point to Stoudemire’s bad back — if I were you, I would have noted his surgically repaired knee, but to each his own — and Melo’s chuckery and Paul’s knees then I’m inclined to bring up Deron’s wrist (and ankle) and Howard’s inability to score down the stretch. Let’s try to be objective here.
Players love playing at Madison Square Garden

It's not all that big of a deal
$2M more? Still doesn’t get them to a max player.
They’d have EIGHT minimum contract players as well, leaving them with I think $14M to offer CP3 or Deron.
Section 18, Row 7 at The Rock!
"Your 2010-2011 New Jersey Nets - It Is What It Is"
and
the max salary is a % of the cap, so if the cap goes up so does the max contract figure, so basically that doesn’t help them in getting a 3rd max, that’s one of the main flaws in the Knicks’ homers logic re cap going up and having room for a max.
I still have it at ~$14M, regardles of what max is
Amare: $19,948,799
Melo: $20,463,024
Amnesty Balkman Cap Hold: $418,750
Shumpert: $1,444,100
8 minimum contracts to meet 12 players required: $3.8M
Cap room left to sign CP3, Deron, or Dwight: $13,925,327
Is my math correct?
Section 18, Row 7 at The Rock!
"Your 2010-2011 New Jersey Nets - It Is What It Is"
I think it is
if there’s a $58M cap, the max CP3, DWill or DWight could get = contract starting at $17.4M
If there’s a $61M cap, the max they could get = contract starting at $18.3M
and those FAs’ teams could offer them more years (maybe 2 more years as Stern said) and higher annual percentage raises so any max guy who wants to go there would have to take a massive paycut while guys like Amare and Melo would be making 20M apiece while having to fill out the rest of the roster with minimum guys.
The funny thing is
these writers think NBA players are only fixated on creating Super Teams.
Watch and See. These players are still going wake up and still try to form super teams but are going to look at how Dallas took out a Miami team with 3 stars and NO bench. Paul, Dwill, or Howard would be IDIOTS to go to the Non Defense Playing Amare-Anthony Knicks with no money to get quality back ups. LOL!!!!
Official Member of the "DIDN'T WANT TO TRADE DERRICK FAVORS, BUT HAPPY WE GOT D. WILLIAMS" Movement
okay didnt the heat do it like this
they signed nobody, draft picks were all 2nd rounders. and already had chalmers and arroyo under contract, traded away beasley, cook and wrights cap holds/contracts. wade, haslem, and anthony were all free agents and they waived/re-signed james jones
then signed lebron and bosh, used bird rights to sign wade, signed haslem to a real cheap deal with bird rights, signed Miller to MLE, signed anthony to cheap deal using bird rights, then signed everyone else to vet min deals
so the knicks could use up all the vet min money to go to paul and then sign vet min guys while over the cap. but the heat had two guys under contract for two million with 3 guys cap holds(wade, haslem, anthony). Lebron/Bosh/Wade made 43 million combined last year and the team payroll was 65 million. Melo and Amare make 40 million next year leaving basically 12-14 million for paul because of Shumpert and Balkmans cap hold assuming they dont pick up toney douglas option.
so they could sign all three for 56 million with shumpert and then put 7 vet min scrubs next to them and an MLE guy. there is no haslem, anthony, and chalmers already waiting to re-sign with them.
so Chris Paul, MLE guy, Melo, Amare, vet min
vet min, shumpert, vet min, vet min, vet min
vet min, vet min
NBA players care about money first. not one solid rotation player went to play with the heat for the vet min, just a bunch of scrubs on their last breath. that knick roster looks no different than the hornets roster except a slight upgrade over a fully healthy david west and a huge upgrade over trevor ariza. so about 50 wins oh wait the hornets were an elite defensive team so maybe only 45 wins the most and this is of course if Chris Paul’s health is good and his playoff performance carries over

The only thing is
the Heat didnt have $40 mill locked in on two of their stars.
Wade had a cap hold. He eventually took less then he was going to to help the Heat get the other two.
Lebron and Bosh are making less then $40 mil.
Amare and Anthony are on the books for 2012/2013 $40 mil while Wade, Lebron and Bosh are on the books for $51 Mil. Then you figure what eLone said, how do they expect to win the big one without a supporting cast.

I have been saying this for years
I don’t understand why people who should know better can’t even do that simple math. I understand Sheridan, he is a knicks homer, but Mark Stein? Bucher? Woj? Signing CP3 is a common misconception that spreads like wildfire.
THE ONLY WAY THE KNICKS GET ONE OF THOSE PLAYERS IS BY TRADING BILLUPS AND FIELDS FOR ONE OF THEM. that frankly is a joke of a deal and who knows if the new CBA would even allow this.
and if the Hornets trade CP3
while the NBA still owns them, it will be the height of hypocrisy.

And they can go over to resign some their own players after Paul and a MLE big would also come into the mix. They got an owner willing to spend so those shouldn’t be a problem.
Paul doesn’t strike me as the type of guy that would NEED to be a MAX player either. He’s made a lot of money on and off the court already and he’s a high character guy. If he really wants to play there , it’s a real possibility.

"Resign" who?
There’s nobody who is a free agent. They will need to sign all new players (9) after renouncing Fields’ rights, amnesty’ing Balkman and declining the option on Douglas.
They will have Melo, Stat, and Shumpert under contract amounting to $41.8M of a $58M cap.

Is the NBA player union divided ?
This article in Hoopsworld has some pretty interesting stuff in it…Discusses how Fisher supposably tried to cut a secret 50-50 BRI deal with Stern, and also discusses the possibility of a 78 games season…
Derek Fishers e-mail to players assocation on Monday;
Usually I wouldn’t even dignify absurd media reports with a comment. But before these reports go any further, let me say on the record to each of you, my loyalty has and always will be with the players. Anyone that questions that or doubts that does not know me, my history, and what I stand for. And quite frankly, how dare anyone call that into question. The Players Association is united and any reports to the contrary are false. There have been no side agreements, no side negotiations or anything close.

It’s not remotely a secret in NBA circles that Fisher had been pushing behind the scenes for a 50-50 split on BRI and that Hunter is convinced the union should not accept less than 52-48. It’s also not a secret that Fisher’s superstar Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant had joined the fight for 50-50.

Article in Forbes on the D-LEague written last November...
The D-League’s plan: to achieve profitability soon through more lucrative sponsorships – at least a couple of teams are poised to adorn sponsor names on their game jerseys – and cutting costs by forging stronger affiliations with NBA clubs, a move that would shift more player payroll costs to the parent teams. For NBA teams, taking over D-League rosters altogether represents a chance to cut costs for them too: why continue take a chance on a multi-year, seven-figure deal to a young bench player who may never develop, when you can develop 12 players for about $500,000 a year? Currently, NBA teams typically supply two players per team to their D-League affiliates. The rest are signed independently.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomvanriper/2010/11/12/nba-d-league-10-years-of-progress/
here's the point
as we’ve written on more than one occasion: the D-League represents in normal times severals advantages for the NETS.
Here’s how.
Under the D-League rules, the Armor (and any other single affiliation team) can offer contracts to the last three players cut by their NBA parent. The Nets. like they did last year, pay small guarantees to undrafted players they like, players such as Brian Zoubek or Ben Uzoh. The combination of the guarantees and D-League salary would prevent them from going to Europe. While other teams can call them up, they will become steeped in Nets strategy, play calls, etc. There is also likely to a gentlemans agreement among teams as more and more of them establish relationships. About half the teams now have single team relationships.

with the stretch exception the full contract is still paid, it just distrtibutes it differently. It stretches the salary over more years. Can’t see how creating a cap hit of $3.1M over the next NINE seasons would be appealing to anyone, $3.9M in savings ain’t worth it.
