Marc Stein tweeted early Sunday afternoon that "Word from @DeronWilliams camp is that D-Will and family are all safe and sound after powerful earthquake earlier today in eastern Turkey."
Williams himself tweeted that all was well: "Thanks everyone for checking on me I'm OK the quake was very far from Istanbul" and suggested that he had only heard about it, not felt it, "I just heard about it a couple hours ago!"
The earthquake's epicenter was roughly 800 miles from both Izmir, where Williams played (and Billy King watched) Saturday, and Istanbul, where he and his family live. The quake, at 7.3 magnitude, caused dozens of buildings to collapse in and around Van, near the Iranian border. The area is quite prone to earthquakes.
