Nets-Sixers Rivaly Rooted in Rap?
The Nets and 76ers have never had much of a rivalry even though the two teams are only separated by about 90 miles and in the past few years have basically swapped front offices. For years, Ed Stefanski commuted from Philly to East Rutherford and now Billy King does the reverse.
Moving to Brooklyn is likely to diminish the rivalry unless it becomes rooted in rap. Jay-Z is reportedly good friends with Will Smith and now the two of them are minority owners of the Nets and 76ers. Smith, a Philly native, owns a small piece of the 76ers.

15 years ago his style is dated I like his acting better
I doubt he would do it but he’d get destroyed if he challenge Jigga man.

of course he would
Will was a competent rapper in his day, but never the innovator Jay was.

If he wanted to jump start his rap career yeah but he’s got it good now.
He doesn’t need to put records out.
In his heyday I don’t remember him battling other rappers.
When you have to shoot, shoot don't talk.
no cause he was more pop-rap than anything
some good fun hits, but pretty lightweight at the end of the day. but IMO that’s nothing to dismiss him for, he still had competent rhyming skills.

Will Smith was never trying to be a battle rapper.
2010-2011 = acquire an All-Star via cap space as Thorn himself said
2011-2012 = make the playoffs without hindering future flexibility
2012 off-season = sign the second All-Star
2012-2013 = make a run for the championship
Mission accomplished thus far.
lol what
You can say a lot about Jay-Z, but innovation is not his strong suit.

Jay was not an innovator
He gained fame by copying the style of others.

There's a good chance he had access to Biggie's stuff
Jay, Puff, and Biggie were on the East Coast side, but Jay was now “Coming Up” and he finally came up after Biggie Died. Its a conspiracy theory, but I agree with it.
"Most people on this board are like a broken clock, Only right two times a day"
hmmm never though of that he's friends with Puff too
He didn’t stop till Nas called him out.
How much of Biggie’s rhymes is gonna come out yo fat lip

Another good rapper ruined by the Popular Rappers
Nas was a great rapper, Top 5 alive After the Pac and Biggie Era. Jay and Diddy has really fail to help any of the rappers they signed, but thats basically a WHOLE other topic or fanpost.
"Most people on this board are like a broken clock, Only right two times a day"
by this theory
shouldn’t we already be rivals with the Cavs (minority owned by Usher) and the Bobcats (minority owned by Nelly) already?

Difference is that Jay-Z and Will Smith are good friends
There around the same age.
"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."
Well I hate the Sixers for buying Dr. J, that's about it.
"Most people on this board are like a broken clock, Only right two times a day"
You wouldn't have jumped at the chance to acquire one of the all-time greats if you knew he was for sale?
It’s not their fault. As soon as we set foot in the NBA, the Knicks made us sell him for “encroaching” on their territory. And thus, our greatest rivalry was born.
Dr. J~Super Buck~Draz~JKidd~Deron
yea, blame the knicks here
“territory rights” my ass, give me a break. typical of NY to think they own the other side of the river as well.

More typical that Jersey fans forget that they were the New York Nets then.

One of the few to be highly successful in music, television, and movies
Dr. J~Super Buck~Draz~JKidd~Deron
The only artist to be born as a rapper and then totally transcend it.
Everybody else has an image tied to their hip hop roots — for example, 2pac, L L and others were rappers who branched out into other media forms, but they never transcended being “rappers who…” Will is the only one to break that mold.

I do not understand this.
Will Smith does not rap anymore. Jay-Z is 41. He will retire eventually. Why would there be a rivalry because of these two? If Nas or Lil Wayne bought some of the Sixers than I would understand.
I think it's fine.
because we need SOMETHING to get both Sixers and Nets fans interested in their team

Not good news for Nets fans and Billy King.

unless of course, like most rumors, this isnt true

Lorraine Schwartz, the designer, got a lot of free publicity and I assume Hump got a huge discount.
That’s how they MADE money on the wedding. They got companies to pay them for product placement.

of what I wrote above. People don’t even credit Will’s hip hop roots because he’s totally transcended them.

"Most people on this board are like a broken clock, Only right two times a day"
a shame
I liked him and Nicki Minaj at first but they were overexposed. Good for sales bad for longevity.
When you have to shoot, shoot don't talk.
They work for Wayne
That Young Money crap is one reason why they became crap. Those are the only two thats keeping that label’s head above water.
"Most people on this board are like a broken clock, Only right two times a day"
true what ever happened to Jae Millz?
He was good without them then he signed with them and….nothing.
When you have to shoot, shoot don't talk.
That's what im saying
Most of that Young Money team is basically dead or must really be working hard for there leaper year album(1 every 4 years). We haven’t heard much from Tyga, Millz, Gudda, Chucky, Twist, Shannel, etc. But my man Joe Budden got his team on the rise with help from Eminem.
"Most people on this board are like a broken clock, Only right two times a day"
I heard something from Tyga (nothing special)
but seems like he signed all those artists for show. Even Cory Gunz hasn’t put out anything except that verse on 6 foot 7 foot.
When you have to shoot, shoot don't talk.
Yep, I mean there are probably some underground musics and "Freestyles"
on youtube, but nothing original from themselves. But give Wayen credit, gather up the upcoming talent and there fanbase and live off of that lol. But rap isn’t as great as it use to be, but there are a few rappers that’s keeping rap alive.
