If melo was traded to the Nets in the begining of the season, the Nets would have made the playoffs and Denver would not even get a lottery pick. As the season is progressing now however, it seems like the Nets will finish with about 25 wins this season. If the Nuggets were to trade melo to the Nets right now that number might improve to 35 or 40, and the first round draft pick that the Nets would send to the Nuggets this year would lose value. However if the Nuggest waited until the trade deadline, this would allow the Nets to continue the losing they started this season. Then the Nets with Melo would only be able to finish with about 30 wins leaving the nuggets with a much better pick in the draft.
The more the Nuggets wait to trade melo to the Nets, the worse the record of the Nets will be and the better the picks the Nuggets will recieve. Could denver be waiting to trade melo at the last possible instant to try and get a better pick?
