With Farmar Out, Nets Will Sign Orien Greene to 10-Day Contract

Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress tweets that the Nets are signing point guard Orien Greene to a 10-day contract. The 28 year old averaged 18.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.0 steals in 24 games with the Utah Flash this season. He was originally drafted by the Celtics in the second round out of Louisiana Lafayette in 2005 and last played in the NBA three seasons ago. In an article six weeks ago, ESPN's Henry Abbott profiled Greene, his fall from grace and hope for a return. Greene brings the Nets roster to a league maximum 15.

Before the Nuggets game, the Nets announced Jordan Farmar will be out for two games.  Ben Uzoh will likely get the back-up point guard minutes on Monday against the Nuggets. Greene is expected to join the team by Wednesday's game with the 76ers.

Potential Upgrade from Stephen Graham?

The guy’s numbers are pretty sick. And from what I can gather from the Henry Abbott piece, he’s basically been out of the league because he’s kind of a knucklehead, not because of a lack of talent. Seems like a low risk/potentially high reward type of situation. Best case scenario, he provides the same kind of defense that Graham does (or better), and can actually score, and he’s cleaned his life up, realizing that this is his last chance. If it doesn’t pan out — probably not a huge loss.

I’m kind of excited.

With Uzoh as our current backup PG, there would be plenty of chance for a Reynolds to get some play time. Not sure if I’ve ever heard of a d-leaguer declining to sign in the NBA, with few exceptions of players who wanted to just stay home, the main reason guys go to the d-league rather than play overseas is in hopes of getting to the NBA as far as I’m aware.

Reynolds is more of a combo-guard

This guy is a legit PG. He’s built like a tank and is a superb athlete. Tough defender and good court vision. Only real weaknesses are his outside shot and his love for the bong.

well as long as i think he keeps himself in check with the weed

He’ll be fine. I’m sure he’ll be able to contribute right away. This team needs a playmaker. I’m not saying that this guy will be our version of cp3 butit’s a start. With devin harris as our starting pg, we’re going to need depth at that position. I would also like the nets to pick up a decent sf that can contribute right away. This team doesn’t need to find potential. We can pick up potential at the draft. Let’s hope the nets find a diamond in the rough.

Ben Uzoh sucks

and so do all of our SF’s.

I’m still waiting on a significant move.

As bad as Graham is, he gets way too much hate on this website. He’s had his moments. For example, he was a key to the first Memphis game pretty much shutting Rudy G down.

He commits so many stupid fouls.

He was also a key to that triple overtime loss to the Thunder… fouling Jeff Green while he was shooting a 3.

Whether anyone here wants to admit it or not, he’s our best SF defender. More an indictment of the rest of our players, but yeah

Latest ND movement: “Cut Graham LOOSE!”

by Andres B on Jan 31, 2011 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

his team was in Utah this morning

so maybe he is having a hard time getting here…no sense in having the 10-day start til he gets here.

So...what's this guy's nickname?
Only real weaknesses are his outside shot and his love for the bong.

Orien Greene Leaf?

Dear Mr. Prokhorov: While I blame you for letting the Melo trade process get to a point where it was ruining your current basketball team, I commend you for at least having enough sense to stop the bleeding. Now, hopefully you've learned from this experience and won't repeat the same mistake(s) in the future.

He will probably wear "0"

wore it in college, the pro’s and the D League.

Not good. Jeff McGinnis was the last Net to wear “0” as I recall.

I think this guy may be 10 days and done.

He apparently isn’t the player that King was after 2 weeks ago.

It may depend on whether they feel that Uzoh is a keeper.

Don’t forget, even if there isn’t a trade for Melo, King did promise some trade activity.
Uzoh could be traded, since other teams like a cheap contract.

Naturally Murphy would be part of any trade, but I highly doubt it would occur in the next 10 days.

How's this for a Pan C?

Nets send send GS first back to GS

GS sends Memphis a 2nd round pick

Indiana sends 2nd rounder to the Nets

Nets send Memphis Lakers 1st round pick in this years draft

Hate on this trade all you want but think about this and consider these is the type of trades that are Billy King’s Specialty
