I have been going back & forth with a friend of mine(also a Nets fan) for several days about the move to Brooklyn. He seems to think the Nets are better off staying in Newark. I insisted the Nets must move to become a better team & implied they will become a better overall franchise in the process. I agree he makes makes valid points about the Prudential Center being a lovely arena, the Nets having no fans outside of NJ, the Nets will always play second fiddle to the Knicks even after the move, it will be tough to get a star to come to a team in transition, etc. My argument is simple. It MUST be done!
I'm not disagreeing that the Nets may always be the next best thing in NY as compared to the Knicks, but there is nothing you can do about that right now. I also agree that it's gonna be tough to get a star to come to this team right now, but will being in BK as opposed to Newark make it harder or easier to get that star? We all know the answer to that. On top of that, I truly believe there is a young guy either in the league right now or a kid in college that is dying to be the face of the franchise after the move. The guy to become the face of that team in Brooklyn & lead them to the promise land will be legendary. That's just how I feel about it & I believe the Nets will become a winning franchise soon because of it. Guys with that superstar mentality won't be able to resist the chance to do special things as the face of the franchise. Brooklyn will be calling them like a drug!
In my opinion, the only thing holding up the Nets right now is this stay in Newark. You can tell guys you're gonna make the move in 2 years all you want, but is that really a guarantee? After the move becomes official, this franchise will take some serious strides! Do others feel the way I do or should the Nets try to make it work in Newark?
