"They'd build Brooklyn around him."
So what? The Knicks have seven decades and four generations of fans; they're in the top three of any "Diehard NBA Fan Base" list. Anyone who thinks the Brooklyn Nets are making a serious dent in that stranglehold is delusional. They will always be the not-as-hot sister standing next to the drop-dead-gorgeous girl at the bar. Wear your sexiest outfit, wear a push-up bra, wear high heels … doesn't matter. You're always second.
That is an excerpt from Bill Simmons, an ESPN columnist, recent column on the Carmelo drama. First off, Bill Simmons is my favorite sports columnist he is clever, funny, and usually right on target when discussing sports. As a diehard Nets fan I have become accustomed to people trashing my team. So I have no problem with Bill Simmons trashing the Nets. My problem is that he says (as I put above) that the Nets are always going to be in the Knicks shadow and that they are the "ugly sister" and then goes on to say that Carmelo's ideal destination is the Los Angeles CLIPPERS. Well excuse me, but do the Clippers not share a city with the most successful franchise EVER. Also was it not a few years ago that the Knicks were the laughing stock of the NBA, with Isiah Thomas running their franchise into the ground. The Knicks have been playing good basketball for three months and suddenly they cast a shadow on the Nets? How are the Clippers any better then the Nets, if any thing they are more of a laughingstock then the Nets are. They are arguably the worst franchise in NBA history. People forget that it was less then a decade ago that the Nets were in back to back NBA finals.
For Bill Simmons to talk about how the Nets are in the Knicks shadow and then suggest the Clippers as an alternative is just ridiculous. Us, the diehard fan base of the New Jersey Nets need to recognize this and defend our team! I am not suggesting we all send hate emails to Bill Simmons, no. Just let him no that we read what he said about our team and that we have an opinion. Go to the address above and at the top of the article under Bill's name it says contact. Maybe he will realize the Nets fan base is more respectable then he thinks!
