Travis Outlaw Works On His Three
As the Labor Day Weekend winds down, the Nets are on their way to New Jersey. Terrence Williams arrived by plane Monday from an autograph session in Louisville. Newlywed Sean May drove his truck through Jersey Shore traffic on the Turnpike.
And before he left Starkville, MS for East Rutherford, Travis Outlaw posted a video of a recent workout in the local gym. Outlaw didn't say what he's been focusing on in the accompanying tweet, but he was showing off his range. Outlaw lists his location as "Newark, New Jersey".
Most if not all the 15 Nets are expected in New Jersey this week for workouts before training camp opens in 17 days.

nice to see him working out
good to have a versatile SF on the roster again. Havent had that since RJ. I expect Outlaw to be the Nets 3rd leading scorer this year after Harris and Lopez…13.5ppg, 5 rebounds, and a block sounds good
yup
Morrow, Outlaw, Murphy, Uzoh, and Farmar can all shoot 35% or better from three point range
Don't forget James as well

outlaw
has also been known for taking low percentage long two pointers just inside the arc
Party Pooper...LOL
At least he not afraid to shoot. Sure it would be nice if Outlaw was a “smarter” player, but if he was, we wouldn’t of have been able to get him. I’m sure AJ will introduce him to the 3pt line.
Avery wants to attack and Outlaw ain’t shy. Should be interesting and entertaining to see how Outlaw fits in with the Nets.
Much To Prove...
All our players have much to prove this year. As far as Outlaw, he has to prove that he is a starter in this league, and deserving of the deal that he got. Same for Morrow. Brook has to prove that he is the real deal. Devin has to prove that last year was a fluke. Farmar has to prove that he is better than the triangle made him. Favors has to prove that he really can get better, and do it pretty fast. TWILL has to prove that the last month of the season was not an aboration. Avery has to prove that he can motivate players who have never won together. It will be interesting. GO NETS!

Good vid
I like to see our players working hard in the summer. Can’t wait to see how Outlaw fits in with this team. The more I think about it the more I have confidence that he will pan out for the good. I have faith in AJ, I think he sees something there and believes he can help Travis become the player he could be.
Anyways, very excited to have players who can actually shoot the ball again.
Travis...
looks like he needs to work on his left hand shooting some more…..
Yi Update.....
Quote from Hoopsworld….
“Yi’s played very well,” Grunfeld said. “He’s led that team and he’s been their go-to-guy. He’s put up some real good numbers and we feel real good about the way he’s played in the world championships.”
Quote from LFrank: “Sean Williams has been our best player in camp so far….”
Quote from the guy who owes me $1,100: “the check is in the mail…”
Quote from Kendrick Meek, Democrat for Senate in Florida: “I am not a crook…”
Yi’s contract expires and the WIZARDS allow him to go back to play for the same Chinese team that Starbury plays for…
Paul from Delray Beach
Paul is already in midseason form
The guy has come into training camp firing on all cylinders, whereas me, I am a bit out of shape.

About 1 month ago, someone posted a much longer workout video of Outlaw (over 15 minutes), that was more impressive.
I think he hit about 200/200 shots in that workout video.
Does anyone have the link?
Also, is anyone concerned that now that he has his $35 million dollar contract, he won’t practice as hard?
it depends
Do you have any evidence of Travis being a problematic player?
I’d at least like to see this guy play in a Nets uniform a few times before I throw him under the bus

Where can i find this video?
i would like to watch it
Bench player?
Outlaw is the forgotten man this off season. He was our top and most expensive signing this year but with all the Carmelo talk Travis has been overlooked. I think he is the key player in Nets fortunes this year. If he plays well the Nets should be much improved and should be a serious playoff contender.
Outlaw in his last two full seasons with Portland averaged about 27 minutes a game.
Last year only 4 players on the Nets had more minutes per game then Outlaw did in his two years prior to last years partial year.
Brook 37
Harris 35
Lee 33
Yi 32
I don’t think the soon to be 26 year old Outlaw will have any problems playing starters minutes.
I never really saw what was bad about the Outlaw signing
Sure 7 million a year for 5 years is a bit of an overpay, but not thaaat much. The guy can score. He’s a bit one dimensional in that he’s mostly only a scorer, but I think he’ll do pretty well in an uptempo offense. He’s got a good package of skills. He can hit the three, and is athletic as they come.
I don’t think he has to “prove” that he’s a starter because he has been starting quality for a while now.
In 08-09 Nicolas Batum started ahead of him. But who played more minutes? He played 28 minutes a game while Batum played 18.
In 07-08 Martell Webster started ahead of him, but they practically split the time evenly with Outlaw playing 27 minutes a game and Webster playing 28. And Outlaw was statistically better than Webster in every single category.
What do Batum and Webster have in common? They’re both low usage players. Batum is purely a defender, while Webster is a catch and shoot guy. With Brandon Roy handling the ball so much, and Lamarcus Aldridge out there with him, they didn’t need another creator in that starting unit.
People place way too much weight on starting, when in fact it doesn't mean anything at all
It’s not who starts, it’s who’s there at the end of games.

Add in another year
06-07 Ime Udoka started ahead of him. And Udoka is what now? A combination of Batum and Webster pretty much.
You see the pattern of guys starting ahead of him?
also the Portland system
is notoriously slow-paced and Outlaw’s game is not. He is built for a running game.
The same holds true for Farmar, Morrow, Uzoh and even Petro, who is a very athletic seven-footer.

Wow Income im glad you said that. Everytime the Nets pick up a player I always look at youtube to see what kinda player we are looking at. Like you said before he looks like a running uptempo kinda guy. I dont know if you guys agree but i think Devin learns to dish this can be the Devin to Outlaw or Devin T-Will with the mans jam.
Dre Day all day
Our team has gotten bigger and faster...
Plus we have now a 3pt game to use with, Morrow, Murphy and Outlaw leading the way.
Last year we had no real 3pt game to speak of.
This team is young, fast, big and versatile.
Can’t wait to put this baby out on the road…

No Melo, lets work with what we have and gel

No but that's ok
If you can get Melo without giving up the major core, you’ve advanced this team by miles.
I thought about it Dre, and your right, sort of...
but if the Nets can get Melo for a price they think is right, they will.
But I will be happy either way, as long as the Nets don’t trade Favors or Brooks.

Keep that classified information quite... He might be on our team soon.
Imagine what his scoring AVG would be with a strong left handle…

I like that. This is a young, hungry bunch and they can get to know each other and gel for like a month before preseason. They need to build chemistry because we only have 3 guys from last years camp. this season looks promising!

New Era
Since last year I wanted that Outlaw played for us. So here he is and I am optimistic that he will suceed. What is surprising are the other pick ups like Murphy, Morrow, Farmar whom I think should had been drafted instead of Marcus Williams. I also like Favor and Brooks. Terrence seems alright , but I was rooting for Blake. This year we have 2 to 3 PF’s, NBA quality. Acouple of outside threat. At least 3 good defenders including Outlaw, I think he match up pretty well non all star SF’s and PFs.
I wrote to my friend in portland...
about travis outlaw. I said "is the Portland system “notoriously slow-paced?”
His reply:
“notoriously” is a big word for a Nets blogger. The Blazers do not run like the Suns, in large part because of McMillian’s game plan and Brandon’s game, but they have great length, rebounding and defense, so they get a bunch of fast breaks. With Oden and Pryzbilla out last year, they had no fast breaks until Camby came in.
So, let me guess. The bloggers don’t think Outlaw was used properly by the Blazers, and only the Nets know how to showcase his talents, right? We had a decision to make — get a big guy like Camby and make the playoffs, or not make the playoffs. It meant we had to give up Travis and Steve Blake — and it broke our hearts to do it.
Now if you guys can only take Rudy Fernandez and show the Blazers again how ignorant they are.

Portland has been dead last in pace factor for the last 2 years
2nd to the last the 2 years before those. 3rd to the last the year before those 2. Before the Nate McMillan era? 18th. Ever since then it’s been 28th, 29th, 29th, 30th, 30th.
this isn’t new information, this is common knowledge. Every team gets fast break points, of course. Just because you’re slow doesn’t mean you don’t run at all. But the point is you don’t do it nearly as much as other teams or don’t have as many possessions
oh but wait
someone in Portland said it’s not.
“notoriously” is quite accurate.
another word that would be accurate to describe a friend in Portland is “jerk”.
sounds like your boy is a pompous ass
no one is even remotely saying that he was misused by Portland. Tell your boy to get over himself.

Yeah we use big words around here, we might mistype them but vocabulary is not a problem here

Personally I know I have no clue about what I'm talking about
But when I use really sophisticated and intellectual words like “notoriously”, I know that people will think I’m smart.
That’s my whole game.
