Hump Teams Up With 'Melo In L.A. Pick-Up Games

Many scenarios have Kris Humphries being traded to Denver as part of a package for Carmelo Anthony.  He is an expiring contract ($3.2 million), young (25) and an energetic big man, all of which may appeal to the Nuggets.  The reality is different: Hump has been playing in pick-up games with 'Melo out in LA.

Ben Howland, UCLA's head coach, tweeted that Anthony, Humphries and free agent Earl Watson scrimmaged against his players August 31 out west.  Howland didn't mention how Humphries or Watson did, but said his kids told him Anthony "was unstoppable!"  We wonder if Humphries has provided the Nets with any intelligence.

better have said good things about the Nets and get Watson and Melo to go to the Nets. Nets stil need those “Veteran Glue Guys”.

I could see the Nets signing Watson

makes sense. veteran PG…can play some two as well. Mexican passport too.

    "Mexican passport too."

what does that mean. I think you should delete that comment man. Any word on who is invited to their summer league roster?
Nets should trade T-Will, James and Murphy for Anthony and Balkman already whats taking so long.
    Lopez/Petro
    Favors/Hump/Balkman
    Anthony/Outlaw
    Morrow/Watson/Ross
    Harris/Farmar
Not a bad lineup at all. Can the Nets still use MLE just wondering.

    Of course

he wanted to play for Mexico last year in the Tournament of the Americas but couldnt work out the insurance issue.

    Some people…

His maternal grandparents were born in Mexico, but I couldn't find any evidence that he ever lived in Mexico or even speaks much Spanish.

He appears to have lived in Kansas for most of his pre-UCLA/NBA life.

I can’t see why the Nets would commit any more cap space at this time, with many trade scenarios for Melo being highly cap space sensitive.

Why would Watson accept an invite to Nets Camp without a significant amount of guaranteed money?
He played 29 mpg last year for Indiana and beat the Nets in one game at the buzzer.
Why would his value drop so much that he would be competing for Uzoh’s spot on Nets team this year?

    doesn't mean much

Eight of the 12 Nigerian team members at the last Olympics were born in the USA as was the coach. Ben Uzoh as the son of Nigerian parents is qualified to play for Team Nigeria.

As the grandson of Irish immigrants, I can get an Irish passport. Most countries are willing to accept dual citizenship if the person brings something special.

    You guys....

IF, we assume that Nets insist on keeping Lopez, and if we assume the Nugs would like Favors. THEN, if the Nugs take Murphy and Favors, you’d want to get Harrington back.

If the Nugs would settle for Morrow and agree to take Outlaw (who you won’t need) plus picks, then that comes pretty close to a deal.

Otherwise, Scola, Battier, a third player, and their more intriguing picks is the winner.

You can keep your bogus superstar or send him elsewere.

    Hump still got some game

I still remember last year I guess he was mad, just shoulder tackled some dude on the left side of the three point line, after going thru most of last season without any hard fouls it was refreshing as hell.

    THE HUMPH

I am sure that THE HUMPH is a nice guy, and I mean him no ill will. But seriously, THE NETS would never have resigned him, if it had been the team option. The HUMPH opted in, because he knew that on the open market, he couldn’t get more than the vets minimum. The HUMPH has limited talent and poor productivity. He is the 9th or 10th player on a border line playoff team. Unless I am very wrong, he is 11th man on our squad, and will not leave the bench, unless there is an injury or foul trouble. AND I certainly don’t want Balkman coming back in a MELO trade. Balkman has no skills at all. I can’t believe that Denver resigned him. Maybe he is a good practice player? Maybe practice play is where THE HUMPH can contribute to our team this year. I think only Ross and the non-draft rookies see less time than THE HUMPH.

    The Hump

would be playing for less than $2 million next season if he had opted out.

It was a bad year to be a 3rd tier FA.

Hope that applies to 4th tier FA Jarvis Hayes, so that he is still property of Nets, to be used for THE TRADE.

by jerry25 on Sep 5, 2010 10:18 PM EDT up reply actions

If Melo decides to accept Nuggets extension, don't be surprised if he requests management to acquire Hump from Nets.

Nuggets will start regular season without KMart, Anderson and possibly Nene. Hump would be a useful short term addition to Nuggets – more valuable than he is on Nets, only because for the first time, Nets are loaded at PF, with Favors the possible future.

Hump was best PF on Nets last year. I have no doubt about that. Nets traded Yi for cap space and held onto Hump, although they had a trade deal in place only if LeBron was coming. Before the Murphy trade and May acquisition, it was expected that Hump would be the starter.

The two reasons that some fans lost confidence in Hump was because 1. Kiki was driving Hump crazy by playing Yi by 2:1 minutes, even as Yi continued to screw up and
    2. Hump’s teammates were awful and Kris felt that someone had to shoot the ball with the shot clock winding down so many times.
