Nets Keep Working with What They've Got
With the Carmelo Anthony talk dying down for the time being, the Nets were back on the practice floor on Wednesday. Troy Murphy was not, but he's expected to get his first contact practice in on Monday. In his place, Kris Humphries has been scrimmaging with the first team, which has Anthony Morrow at shooting guard over Terrence Williams.
Meanwhile, the Nets made their first cut on Wednesday afternoon, sending Andre Brown home after just five days of practice.

Starting lineup for first preseason game
Brook Lopez… Devin Harris… Hump… “IT’S ALL NEW!”
Section 18, Row 7 at The Rock!
see
now when I read this I do see the point of eLonepb and others.
Avery was just a week ago talking big on favors on how he could be starting etc etc. How he is looking like garnett and Timmy and now we have hump possibly starting.
Which makes me believe that the favors talk could have been just that. Talk.
I wonder what the team, the coaching staff and the GM really think of this kid. I know he is a project but I wonder what they feel the ETA on this project is.

I don't think they are worried about Favors skills as much as his heart and determination...
Favors got to play hard on defense and get after those rebounds…Offense can come later….
It is only training camp.
Lopez didnt start over Boone.
So this stuff doesnt mean anything. We all knew that Favors wasnt going to start especially when they traded for Murphy.
Lets not entertain any Pro-Melo for Favors advocates. Treat them like T-E-A Party members. Ignore them.

Favors is a rookie
Not many rookies just come into the starting lineup Lopez didn’t start out the gate, if you don’t have to start a rookie you don’t, Murphy is a double double machine, letting Favors learn the NBA early on against second stringers is a good thing.
Let Favors play the role as Jason Maxiell.
Making big havocs.

With all the recent trade talks, news from training camp had gotten put on the back burner. Good to see the focus back on where it should be. (this team) Go Nets!

The JETS/NETS are coming!
Nets gave me 4 for free
Crappy section though, I think 120 behind the basket.
I can’t go, so I’m trying to swamp them for a different preseason game, but if not, happy to give them to someone here.

Nets Keep Working with What They've Got
Does this mean Carmelo Anthony is not coming to New Jersey Nets??? What happened?!
Billy just took a break
He din’t sleep for like 4 days straight. he’ll be back on the horn soon. Go get em Billy!
yup that all Billy King needed sleep
the rumors are not going to happen anymore imo to many distractions (read •Nets Practice Without Melo-Drama – Al Iannazzone – In the ‘Zzone) Avery has ask if there are rumors to keep it on the low until it is finalized so Melo is coming to the Nets when you see Nets aquire Melo, I doubt there are going to be any rumors for the time being (but it doesn’t mean there wont be dicussion with both team or other team.)
Denver leaked the rumors
Caused them to look like a bunch of amateurs, which they are.
If this deal goes down, I expect it will be just announced as opposed to “sources say…”.

Again, so many dang sources
But take it for what it’s worth:
http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2010/09/29/heat-mellow-on-melo/
An NBA general manager told me that ‘Melo will not agree to a contract extension with the Nuggets or any team, which essentially kills most if not all chances of Melo being traded.
If true. I cry. :)
Section 18, Row 7 at The Rock!
Why?
If he becomes a free agent, maybe he will sign with the Nets next summer and the Nets won’t have to give up Favors, Harris, or anything to get him.
Hey, it could happen!
If he's a free agent
He’s going to the Knicks. There isn’t any question about that from anyone.
Section 18, Row 7 at The Rock!
Yeah. We thought Lebron to the Knicks was a given too.
And so said the old man!
Ah no
he is going to the Knicks I don’t like to live in fantasies anymore really Lebron ,Wade, Bosh is enough I would like him to come to the Nets, but a trade is the only way it would happen, Nets have never got a super-star talent tru F.A..
Well....
Nets Finish around or slightly above .500, Favors shows promise, Brook Lopez a strong 20/10 Devin Harris defending and averaging 17 and 9 Anthony Morrow and Troy Murphy shooting in the top 10 in 3pt% T-Will on Sports Center once a week posterizing someone or making plays and averaging 14, 7 and 7 Avery Coach of the YEAR again.
Amare gets hurt, Feltons a Bust, Gallo plays less than 50 games Knicks miss Playoffs D’Antoni Fired…..
And then only ONE season in Newark before Brooklyn. Not such an hard sell if this takes shape.
The JETS/NETS are coming!

of course it is
he has won at every level.
He is one of five players who have been in the playoffs every year in the last seven and that list does not include Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade or LeBron James. He is one of two active players who have an Olympic gold medal and an NCAA championship and he knows if he gets an NBA ring, he will be only the eighth player in history to complete that trifecta…the others being Bill Russell, KC Jones, Clyde Lovelette, Jerry Lucas, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and the great Quinn Buckner.
He is all about winning.
hmm, what sense does this make?
Lets assume Melo really does want to get paid extension money, and he’s not giving that up.
So, it logically follows that Team Melo knows exactly where he wants to be traded, and that destination team is comfortable trading assets for Melo BEFORE any extension is signed.
Melo is doing this to help himself and his future team.
BK King - "Have it your way, Mr. Kroenke"
This makes no sense. Friday we heard it was all systems go.
And I dont see how this is true with Wes at Melo’s side.

Crunchtime can you provide any details of upgrades post-Mikhail Prokorov acquisition of the Nets and what is “ALL NEW” besides 80% of the players….for example, the lockeroom upgrade M Cuban implemented once he became owner of the Mavericks….or more recent, Wizards are giving each player an IPAD with pre-installed playbook….I know the players can afford to buy hundreds of IPAD themselves…but it is the “COOL” PR points such amenities provide…word get around the league quickly among potential free agent (hello Melo)….or even the fact that the Knicks have an Iphone Apps but not the Nets….how about a LALA apps..chronicling her daily photos in keeping up with the Kardashians….

I Get The Feeling Ross is a Goner
Like he might be bought or traded for nothing.
A “toe nail injury”
They are loaded on the wings, so it wouldn’t shock me.
I also wouldn’t mind J.Hayes taking his spot, and we could resign him to be a nice $2.5m expirer.
Starting 5:
Harris
Morrow
Outlaw
Murphy
Lopez
2nd 5:
Farmar
T.Williams
D.James
Favors
Petro/Humphries
DNPs:
Uzoh
S.Graham
J.Hayes(?)/Q.Ross
Humphries/Petro
Zoubek

You got it. Zoubek is odd man out. Six Bigs is enough. Uzoh is a Peal in an Oyster. Joe Smith is a Net.
Ross has a full Vet Min contract guaranteed, and he plays D, so not likely he will be cut.
Javis Hayes isn’t a Net. He would have to re-sign.
He just lost about 2.5 million when the Melo deal fell through.

Actually I take that back
I think Ross might get cut, I think Graham has a bit more in the tank and is more versatile, so yeah keep Zoubez and waive ross, Graham has a nice body is tough and is more gifted offensively but I like that he’s strong Ross is ok defensively but pretty weak.
You cannot cut Ross
He has a guaranteed contract. Only can waive him.

great finisher, faster then 90 percent of the NBA players..he also had the pull up jumper going all year his all star season
Huge Harris Supporter
right here. Good to see some more people who recall that cold winter night when we chanted, "thank you Cuban’ and watched our all star PG go off for 41 and 13 and poop all over Jason Migraine Kidd
And its sad too
Luckily over the course of the years, the Nets havent been making those kinds of mistakes
These Videos are cool and all
but the issue with Harris is that he has to get back to playing defense and direct the offense. All these clips that arent break aways are of him playing off the ball. If that is what they want him to do and I think he will be good at then Twill has to start.
Can someone please
just go like a 7 sentence rant about why the Knicks are an awful organization please?
My pleasure
The first problem wrong with the knicks is that they are far too stupid to keep draft picks. They are fully incapable of drafting any good player because they always dump their picks and in stupid deals too. The last ten year the organization has been mismanaged giving huge contract to average or problem player. Also the organization was thoroughly embarrassed by several off court issues like Isiah Thomas (the worst GM ever) sexually harassing a young woman, feuding with Marbury and a lot of stuff I hardly remember. To make it worse they are now associating themselves with this sleeze again. There most recent idiotic move include selling their fans on a LBJ pipe dream while not making any effort to put together a young core. By all account their speech to him was plain stupid. And well I could go on all day.
Don't pay Billy King a severance package.
please proceed..
you see, therres this guy on blecher report tearing up the Nets (trying to) and i just need something long and incredibly strongly worded to prove him wrong. im going to piece togther ND’s thoughts and bash the Knicks. ill probably make a fanpost and hope it doesnt get dleted
I just realized the Nets have a brutal schedule especially in November
we have to play miami twice, orlando twice, celtics twice if you include the first week of december… 10 away games, 5 back-to-back, and 3 3games-in-4nites.
It’s going to be tough for a new team like ours, I hope that we will start the season strong.
But...
If we come out of that NOT 0-18 we are already better than last year. With our pieces and New Coaching Orlando doesn’t scare me and neither does Boston. The Lakers and the Heat are the only teams that I don’t say we have a great shot against. The other 29 teams??? LET’s GO!
The JETS/NETS are coming!
guys brook lopez is a good center and he should be an untouchable
but i keep on asking myself…when was the last time he actually dictated an outcome of a game?
when is the last time he actually took over a quarter and carried the team?
i watched every single game that brook played and i don’t think it happened once yet….
i hope he this year he comes out and proves to be more dominant
He did it in the first half of the grizzlies game last year
But then disappeared during the 2nd and we lost again…

He made this buzzer beating dip under play last year to beat the buzzer and win or go to overtime
When I saw that move (forget what its really called) I knew very special player right there. Also nets don’t any games last year without him.
Don't pay Billy King a severance package.
Brook Lopez
Brook was not used properly by LF or Kiki. We played a lot of outside, inside. We must play inside, outside. Throw the ball into Brook and let him develop a play. Worst case scenario he gets fouled and goes to the line, where he is a great free throw shooter for a seven footer, or he kicks it back out and finds the wide open player while he gets double teamed. SImple basketball. He has the moves down low to get to the basket rather easily or can post up and create a shot around the rim like Duncan.
LETS GO NETS!
New NBA owner accidently slipped and said there will be a "Hard Cap" in new CBA.
At least that is what David Stern must have said that owners would be pushing for.
Means that besides a strike next summer, Nets could be in trouble if they sign Melo to 22 million per year.
That would be bad new for Prokhorov and teams that have money.
Nets would be in good shape though, if they just stand pat, and re-sign Murphy for around 7 million.
Then all the teams better than Nets would have to sell off their expensive players.
I can’t see that happening, but at least they should wait and see if it is worth trading away Favors and Harris.
I was just going to post this
As much as I love Carmelo, logic seems to tell me he won’t bring us a championship
The new labor agreement:
a)will limit our ability to add contract (Paul) with Carmelo
b) make our two 2012 draft picks more valuable (after everyone in college waits a year after a lockout)
c) hurt our ability to maximize Prokhorov’s dollars
We are better off with what we have, even if Favors isn’t a star. I LOVE Favors, but the fact that we were willing to trade him with Melo means that we either aren’t high on his upside potential or don’t he will reach his potential within the next two years and Prokhorov is not willing to wait.
Why would they trade Favors if he was ready now? Even if they really wanted Melo, why wouldn’t they wait to showcase his talent if he has anything to show right now?
how can NBA just institute a hard cap overnight without grandfathering existing contracts
If there would be a hard cap, then now is the time for Team Wes to get their star clients well taken care of and together on a billionaire’s team, say, the Nets.
BK King - "Have it your way, Mr. Kroenke"
It would still limit flexibility
and make the plenty of people available in trades if you have assets and the Nets would have assets. I agree I don’t think they will create a hard cap, but I think they will definitely make it harder to operate above the cap. I also think it help our ability to sign Carmelo instead of Knicks if he did become a free agent.
Still, it would hurt when it comes time to extend Brook Lopez.
Most of the good teams would be hurt.
by the time Brook's contract is up
the whole NBA salary structure will change, player’s won’t make us much in the open market because there is going to be less money to spend and team’s with money are going to be hesitant to overspend because they will be in salary cap hell.
I doubt they'll get a hard cap in this upcoming CBA
With a hard cap without teams being able to get under the cap, i.e. contracts will have to become non-guaranteed so that players can be cut, as it exists in the NFL or partially guaranteed as with the NHL. The player’s association will never go for the NFL style contracts. Maybe they’ll go for the partial gurantees of the NHL, but even that is doubtful.
Regardless of whether a hard cap or a lower soft cap is put in place, there will likely have to be a rollback of all salaries. Either that, or the institution of such a cap will have to be gradually rolled in. Again, it’s hard to believe NBA owners will get PA agreement on salary rollbacks.
Rough Month
It’s going to be a rough month, waiting for the games to start. The beat reporters just parrot what they are told by the PR department. Remember when Sean Williams was the “best player in camp”…..What’s the real story on Murph’s groin? Can Morrow really make shots in his sleep? Is TWILL really learning to make better decisions? Will they be serving Hering on a stick at the ROCK this season, and Borscht? I like my Borscht with sour cream and a potato. GO NYETS!

Wow
Reining in the player that can hang on to a 16 ppg. average, who can drop 14 assists in a night — like he did against Chicago last March — who can make a coach like Charlotte’s Larry Brown say that when he plays the way he’s capable of, the 12-70 Nets "could beat anybody."
And his detractors will keep saying only us Nets fans think that highly of the kid.
