Could Landing Melo Save the "Nets" from extinction?

Full disclosure: I want Melo on the team more than most posters on this site seem to.

BUT, I am posting to raise an entirely new train of thought on the issue.  The subject of a potential name change upon arrival in Brooklyn has been discussed, and almost all us NETS fans seem pretty dismayed by the chance of a new name.

Building a contender gradually is fantastic, but it is much more tempting for ownership/the league to change the name of a .500 team without any superstars than it is to change the name of a team that advanced in the playoffs and has one of the game's most-recognized figures.

So, I assert that getting Melo would be one of the most critical moves ever for those who love the NETS franchise because it may be essential to the survival of the team as we know it.

P.S.  I know some think that moving to Brooklyn already changes everything, but many of us disagree based on the proximity of Brooklyn to New Jersey.
