Nets Hire Lee To Beef Up Statistics, Analytics Operations
Continuing their revitalization of the front office, the Nets have hired Milton Lee as director of basketball operations, responsible for overseeing the Nets statistical and analytical efforts, as well as assist Billy King and Bobby Marks on player personnel matters.
Lee, a former director of basketball operations at New York Athletic Club and personal trainer for NBA players, has had a long history with New York and NBA hoops.
He personally worked as a skills coach with several NBA players, including current Net, Troy Murphy. Lee served as an assistant coach for the Clippers summer league team in 2008 and 2009, and has been a consultant to the NBA at the past five Pre-Draft Combines.
Earlier in his career, Lee worked as a proprietary trader on Wall Street for ING Barings and SAC Capital. Lee interned for the NBA at three consecutive Olympic Games, including 1992, for the original "Dream Team." Lee also served as an early consultant to Onexim Group after Mikhail Prokhorov agreed to buy the team.

I know.
If the Nets were going to hire someone named Milton you would hope that they had brought Milton Hershey back from the dead.
Consequences will never be the same.

Why, Mrs. Bradley, of course!

merely adding "people to key positions" falls short of 'adding KEY people to key positions'
I doubt Milton the Sports Club Trainer had the Lakers, Rockets, Spurs, Celtics, Thunder beating down his door…
i bet you have no idea
who this guy is…. at least research him before …typical net fan

Get Carmelo or pass? I don’t know, but this new Nets management and coaching team will get it right.

DX’s Jonathan Givony likes the guy:
Great move by the N.J. Nets, hiring Milton Lee as Director of Basketball Operations: http://bit.ly/cFLILe — VERY smart, resourceful guy…
Milt not only knows NBA inside & out from personnel standpoint, but also worked extensively training NBA players & developing relationships.
He’s a great communicator who knows the game on the court and behind the scenes, which gives him a very interesting perspective on players.
Another point for Prokhorov
"No one stands on the top of the world. Not you, not me, not even gods. But the unbearable vacancy of the throne in the sky is over. From now on...I will be sitting on it."

So Givony is saying
That Mr. Lee is everything that Givony is not.
Please Prokhorov never again listen to the fools that told you it was a good idea to retain Rod Thorn
aw man....
you’re on a roll today, lmao!!!

I am more excited by this addition than Joe Smith.
Moves like this are very important in a league as regulated (salary wise) as the NBA… Look at all the great teams, they manage to bring together lots of talent while others fail.
Front office superiority leads to success in the front court.
amen
I can’t believe that my Nets are doing things RIGHT.

Front Office
Well the front office is really being filled up hope this improves the franchise
Couple of interesting Milton Lee links
NBA TIMEOUT w/ Milton Lee (video)
NY Post article about the 2008 draft
NYAC workout maharishi Milton Lee assertively predicts (Joe) Alexander will prove to be the third-best player (Rose and Michael Beasley) in the ’08 draft five seasons from now.
To be fair, five seasons haven’t elapsed yet.
Not many statisic guys have balls...
to make predictions. Guys like Hollinger uses stats to gun people down AFTER they screw up.
Still, it doesn’t pay to attempt predictions publicly. If you’re right 55% of the time, people can always call you out on the other 45%.
Social pressure (religion) is often a better tool than science for manipulate public opinion.
You said it too. LOL
Technically, saying “religion” is not a discussion. Don’t think about elephants.
Worshipping the Nets is not considered a major "religion"...
Its more a “Cult” thing like devil worship etc…When someone gets banned from NetsDaily it’s a “sacrificial offering”, trying appease the angry Nets Gods….
Time to convert the non-believers!
May Sly have mercy on your souls.
And you could say Netsdaily is more like "The Spanish Inquisition"?
Did someone say “The Spanish Inquisition”?!

I agree..
Just because our team will probably suck this year doesn’t mean you have to be pessimistic.
Lets go Nets…
Just kidding of course...
I predict playoffs and our MVP will be Travis Outaw. Since I’m the only one on this site who’s high on Outlaw, I will officially “adopt” Travis as of this moment onward.
No one else will be allowed to sing his praises accept me.
In fact his new name will be Travis “M i k e y” Outlaw from now on…
“Give it to Mikey, he’ll shoot anything”…
Outlaw for three
BANG

Mr Milton Lee
So what I think that means is…if Mr Lee was working in our front office a couple years ago instead of now, and Alexander was still on the board, Lopez would be a Hornet. Always did love Alexander as a player, can’t believe he hasn’t made it..yet.
you never know
i’m really surprised he hasn’t signed with anyone yet. Same with Adam Morrison. I guess they want guarantees…and they’re not getting them.
Joe Alexander can play alongside Yi for Team China, I think
Alexander was born in Taiwan, which China claims to be part of China, so China can grant Alexander permission to play. That would be something.
Alexander would have to become a Chinese citizen.
No dual citizenship in China. However, he can play in the Chinese league. Did he get waived by the Bulls?
Didn't know he was Asian.
I bet he’s good at math!
B-Easy > Joe Smith?
Funny how noone thought he was Oriental, in basketball, despite having the name Lee. His parents apparently gave him an old fashioned American first name.
I had thought that Rod Thorn had the title of Director of Basketball Operations?
Is this essentially a new position?
And I thought Bobby Marks was the “numbers” guy on the Nets already. I thought Marks was some kind of certified accountant and attorney?
I wonder if the players will come to Lee with advice on stock tips, since he was a Wall St. Trader?
Why not just give Billy King the Title of President of Nets Basketball, unless they plan on someone else, who let Irina be the only President?
Oriental?
Rod Thorn was president of basketball operations. This is a new position, created to run stats and analytics.
Bobby Marks does cap space, not stats.
The Nets have many presidents and titles. That’s why King is GM. Most teams have GM’s. Mikhail Prokhorov is Principal Owner; Christophe Charlier is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nets Basketball; Brett Yormark is CEO, NETS Basketball and President & CEO, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment; Irina Pavlova is President of Onexim Sports and Entertainment, Prokhorov’s investment vehicle.
Players have investment advisors. The smart ones divide their money up among advisors.
Well, Director of Basketball Operations sounds better that General Manager.
And Brett Yormark’s title sounds much higher up the ladder than GM too.
Thorn was top dog on the Basketball side, although he apparently wouldn’t trade Yi, because that got close to Yormarket’s territory.
Maybe with all these new titles, we can understand why Rod Thorn wanted OUT.
Billy King may still be making all the basketball calls (after first running the Big decisions up the ladder), but I doubt Thorn wanted any part of that (when he could be just President of Sixers Basketball)
I see the list of Nets Staff is now very large and complex. However, I don’t see the name of Dmitry, who Billy King said he would contact, before any big decisions (I assume Dmitry is like Proky’s right hand man).
he's on the board of directors
The chairman’s council, which is composed of Prokhorov, Razumov, Charlier, Ratner and Arthur Rabin, a long time investor…which we have reported. Razumov, 35, is Prokhorov’s CEO overall, his #2. Charlier is Deputy CEO, his #3. No idea why Charlier is chairman of the board. He is active on the business side of the team. A French citizen, he hold an MBA for Penn’s Wharton School, one of the best if not the best business school in the USA. They both read this site.
Why do you assume Thorn wouldnt trade Yi? He did trade Yi. Yormark had nothing to do with the basketball side. He tried and according to one guy on the business side would go to Thorn and ask how can we get so-and-so.
I don’t care why Thorn left. I liked his free agent strategy after they lost at the big three…although I’m happy Charlotte resigned Thomas. $40 million for Thomas would be an issue…a big issue. BUT I am told he would have never done the Murphy deal, that he wanted to preserve cap space. King is more aggressive. Front office guys think Favors is two years away, so Murphy and Smith’s one year deals make sense.
Yormark is spending an increasing amount of time doing Brooklyn, setting up the boxing deal, trying to set up the tennis deal, recruiting new sponsors.
Russian-run enterprises’ organizational charts are often filled with dotted lines and squiggly lines with authority defused…often frustrating American managers.
Thorn's trading of Yi was in following Prokhorov's primary objective of getting LeBron.
Sure in retrospect Thorn would have traded Yi for Big Baby or Noah (if that was ever an option), but he had to hesitate with all the talk about marketing in China.
And with Yormarket having already put together preseason games in China, the way Yi was traded was the only way for Thorn to get it done without being blamed.
I wonder in retrospect to Scola’s good play at the World’s, if Rod would have gone higher.
Scola could be better than Boozer this year.
Geez...
I wonder why we didn’t hire Frank for this position ???….Ya know , He is so great with the statistics…….
