TWill Ready for Anything... and That Includes Bench Role

Terrence WIlliams feels older, more mature and so is ready for anything Avery Johnson throws at him...including a bench role, he tells Fred Kerber.

"Being a sixth man, a Sixth Man of the Year candidate, that's such a long way down the road," Williams said laughing, before noting, "but to just be considered, that would mean a lot. But being a starter would mean a lot also."

After trading Courtney Lee, the Nets have three players who can handle the two guard role: Williams, Anthony Morrow and Quinton Ross.  Williams is the most versatile, capable of playing the point as well.  Kerber also reports that Devin Harris has indeed put on 15 pounds.  He hopes that additional bulk will help him avoid injuries without slowing him down.

If we are considering trading him

Being a starter will increase his value.

To me, it’s a training camp thing. Whoever is showing they want it most.

I do think Morrow is a guy you want in the starting lineup. When Brook gets doubled, he needs someone to pass it to on the wing who can hit the shot.

by eLonepb on Sep 10, 2010 8:19 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

How about Outlaw? And Murphy? We have enough shooting in the starting line up with them. We need other things from our starting SG.

also… considering trading him? there’s zero indication that’s the case. or do you jsut want to turn this into another Melo thread?

by Andres B on Sep 10, 2010 8:21 AM EDT up reply actions

This isn't a Melo thread

But there’s little doubt that he’d be included in a proposed trade, which the Nets WILL offer if and when Denver starts taking offers.

TWill Ready for Anything…

is he ready to be traded for Carmelo?

by ispartan on Sep 10, 2010 9:22 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Apparently he is

He posted these new Jordans he bought on his Twitter account. One of these has a particularly familiar color…

those guys are getting stronger

Kerber said Favors added 5 pounds
Harris said he added 15-20
Now Kerber said TWill added 10

by Andres B on Sep 10, 2010 8:22 AM EDT reply actions

And I've added 4

Have to bulk up for the season.

by eLonepb on Sep 10, 2010 8:45 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I've added a few myself

Coors “Light” my behind. That stuff adds just as much as the regular beer does

I think i’ll engage in light jogging, and shooting drills against chairs to get ready for camp.

I really think T-Will will handle this year like a grown man

I think his problem early last year was his confidence. Those last 2 months boost his level of confidence, now he can just worry about his game. On weather he starts if he doesnt play great defense it would be pointless to start him with harris. If we are going to have a bad defensive SG Morrow makes alot more sense to start.

by nwkiddnj on Sep 10, 2010 8:29 AM EDT reply actions

I'd like to see the Nets

add another SG…maybe bring in a camp invite who can play the two.

Alexey Shved

Though he is a PG, at 6 foot 7 he could play the 2 as well. Versatile AND Russian?!

I wanted the Nets to get this guy as well

VERY interesting prospect, IMO.

My favorite line in the article...

Harris said he rapidly is becoming a Derrick Favors fan.

“The kid looked good,” Harris said. “He caught everything I threw at him.”

Was Harris trying to say last year’s PF’s couldn’t?!

Good attitude...a team player

Reminds me of when T-Will was asked why he wore the #1 and he responded that most guys want to be number one. I on the other hand want to be “the one.”
What ever the situation calls for, what ever is needed, he wants to be the one that makes the difference.

He should be the starter at the 2 or 3.

Devin
Terrence
Outlaw (eventually James)
Murphy (eventually Favors)
Brook

or

Devin
Morrow
Terrence
Murphy
Brook

LETS GO NETS!

by JustinNJ on Sep 10, 2010 10:02 AM EDT reply actions

I definately agree that James will eventually get a starting role and obviously Favors too. Along with either morrow or twill, that should make for a pretty good team

First wingman off the bench would be ideal for TWill on this team

TWill, Favors and Farmar as the core backup rotation players would be ideal.

Nets = Global
Knicks = Local

Core rotation is

Lopez
Murphy
Outlaw
Morrow
Harris

Twill
Favors

wow, Devin +15 pounds

maybe it’ll be the other guys landing on their backs once in a while when Devin drives to the basket.

Kerber only said Devin looks bulkier. It was Harris' word that he gained 15 lbs.

Last week we said that everyone likes to say that they put on 15 lbs of muscle, but usually its not the case.

Harris/Twill starting

Worse 3pt shooting backcourt ever? Which is kind of freaky with great 3pt shooting forwards. Get Yoda as coach.

by Malorkayel on Sep 10, 2010 11:26 AM EDT reply actions

That could be one of the reasons TWill is not expected to start.

Also he didn’t play as well with Harris last year.

Funny thing is that TWill has huge shooting range, even further than Vince Carter.
That means his form needs work.
Maybe TWill will surprise everyone this Fall.

TWill’s problem is in his head. He has the physical abilities but not the focus and determination, like a DWade.
TWill is just too happy in nature. That needs to change.

by jerry25 on Sep 10, 2010 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

He was a big fan of Magic Johnson as a child growing up. Magic always smiled but Magic also knew how to get down to business.
I heard Charles Barkley making the same comments about Dwight Howard during the playoffs. That Howard was too happy on the court and that he needed to get serious.

by aunt-B on Sep 10, 2010 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Yep, Magic was unique, because he was a fierce competitor inside, while he was smiling during the game.

Magic still smiles these days, but you know he is a shrewd business person.

VC and Dwight just don’t have that killer instinct and TWill has a long way to go in that department.

by jerry25 on Sep 10, 2010 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

TWill’s problem is in his head. He has the physical abilities but not the focus and determination

As Derrick Caracter expertly described himself this year. First round talent, second round head.

by kv on Sep 10, 2010 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions

He sounds a lot more realistic than some of his fans
“Honestly, I’m in my second year and I don’t have a [defined] position in the NBA yet. I haven’t shown I can play 30 minutes and produce consistently yet like veterans,” Williams said after the Nets’ voluntary workouts yesterday. “For me, if it’s sixth man, seventh man or starter, I’ll go into every situation willing and capable of doing what I need to do.”

He’s willing to do whatever is asked. I like that attitude. He doesn’t expect to be handed anything..

Great quote

He’s got his head on straight. All he has to do is listen to Avery and go from there.

TWill wouldn't be a main piece in a trade for Melo anyway, so why bother.

If people expect Nuggets to take TWill in lieu of Favors, then TWill is going to have to start the season looking like the next DWade.
In that case, I think I would rather just keep TWill.

by jerry25 on Sep 10, 2010 4:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Very wrong in my opinion

As we’ve seen, past trades for superstars have included young decent prospect type players as opposed to players like Harris, Favors (considered elite prospect), Lopez, etc.

I think TWill is the type of player that makes Denver actually want to do a deal.

God bless Devin Harris' ankles

he can come off the bench, as long as he gets starter minutes, IMO

by i says on Sep 10, 2010 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

After trading Courtney Lee, the Nets have three players who can handle the two guard role:…

Actually 4 guys. Harris should be counted for the possibility of significant SG minutes (especially with the extra weight), as it seems that at least early on Farmar was told that Harris might be on the floor at the same time as him, with Farmar running the point.

Because Avery values the ability of someone other than the PG to start a break, one cannot rule SG minutes out for Harris.

As we seen in SL they played well together. They really complimented each other on the court.
Also they have similar personalities, both very charismatic and out going.
I can see this duo quickly becoming fan favorites.
