Why the Nets are calling the shots with the Melo Trade
As a Nets fan for the past ten years (I'm seventeen now). I've seen them have a sub-par ownership. Despite all this the Nets are still able to win. We are also underdogs and never talked about within the media. Its always about the New York Knicks. But now, I feel that with the new ownership we have these days are over. We are now a force in this league and we're not going to let a small-market team like the Nuggets demand things for a player who doesn't want to be there.
I'm going to explain why all these demands by the Nuggets is not legit.
1.) Melo already said it - Carmelo Anthony stated "he's willing to sign an extension with either the Nets or the Rockets. We can cross the Rockets out because the Clippers and the Nets are already the top candidates.
2.) Can you actually see Melo in a Clipper's uniform? - Even if the Clippers offered the better players I don't think Melo would go there. Even I wouldn't play for them. With all the lottery picks they've had over the years and are still not winning, then I don't see him going there. So lets cross them out.
3.) Minnesota, Washington, and any other team? - As the old Nigerian saying "Fohget Dat One!!!". I don't see them as contenders.
The Nets are the rich monarchies and the Nuggets are poor beggers wanting food. They should be happy with what they get. In conclusion, the Nets call the shots. So on the menu : Murphy(give the Nuggets cap space next season to rebuild), and either Humphries or Williams or James.
Tell me what you guys (my Nets Family) thinks? I would like to hear your opinions.

1st point is incorrect
Carmelo has never publicly said he as wanted to be traded. REPORTS from several weeks ago, however, said that he would consider signing an extension with those teams. Until I hear the words from Carmelo’s mouth, this is all pure speculation.
True, but
these reports could all be wrong. Similar to the recent Chris Paul updates, he never even requested a trade.

Denver does hold some leverage though
Carmelo wants that extension. If Nuggets feel that they’re being low-balled by the Nets because that is the team where Carmelo wants to go to, they can just trade him to a random team. On that team, Carmelo would have to decide if he extends and gets the money or if he takes his chances in the new CBA free agency.

not a very scary threat for nuggets to control melo with
if you don’t cooperate, i’ll shoot myself!
AC24, you are a little off with this one. The Nuggets try and trade him to whichever team they want, however he will not sign an extension with any team. If he tells a particular team, “you can trade for me, but I am not signing the extension,” odds are that the team will no longer try and deal for him. What team would knowingly trade away their entire future for a 1 year rental of Carmelo Anthony? Melo has all the leverage.

Obviously.
I never said Melo has more leverage. Im saying Denver still have some leverage. Carmelo can sign a 3 year 65 million extension. Next year the new CBA comes into effect, and no one knows what max that will bring. If money does matter to Carmelo, Denver still has something.

I assume he meant Korver
Who also wouldn’t be starting… Ronnie Brewer would. CJ Watson can actually play the two also and he showed serious promise in GS (a few huge games, 14 ppg and 2 stls overall in the 2nd half) last year.
a. The Nets have to give up at least one of our core players, regardless of who is truly in control – so your projection of potentially having Harris T-Will Favors Lopez in the same lineup is not happening.
In reality for next seasonRose > Harris (big time… both shoot-first pgs but rose 49% fg for 21 ppg (52.4% for 23 ppg second half of season) vs devins 17 ppg @ a disgusting 40.3%)
Brewer/Watson/Korver < Morrow/T-Will (but by how much?[TWill wildcard] Morrow=Korver?)
Deng > Outlaw (big time)
Boozer > Murphy (yes, big time)
Noah < Lopez (Offensively it aint even close but Noah is the superior defender for sure)
Bulls 61-21…. Nets 37-45

Bulls winning 61 games next season?
I don’t see that.
Only a couple teams win 60 games each season (only Cleveland last year)
I can see LA and Miami winning 60, maybe Orlando or Boston, but certainly not Chicago.
51 games seems much more likely

I should have prefaced it with IMO
But I easily place Chicago (definition of a balanced team) ahead of both the grandpa Celtics (45-49 wins to me – had 50 flat last year) and the overrated Magic (Vince is toast as is their backcourt. in general – Still a formidable team obviously with Dwight being seemingly unstoppable but the supporting cast simply doesn’t impress me to equate to a championship contender – I would say 50-54 wins is about right.)
So gun to my head I say Miami 66-70 wins Chicago 58-62 wins Orl 50-54 wins Bos 45-49 rounding out your top 4 east teams. The following four playoff teams would finish between 40-48 wins each. Its possible the Nets steal the 8th spot with a 41-41 type of year but I see more like 33-38 wins

I would put Orlando ahead of Chicago. (the core) They’ve been playing with each other for a couple of years now with the same coach while Chicago has all these new players and coach coming in. Its gonna take a while for them to gel.
I’d say Miami is 60+, Orl ~60ish, Chicago 50+, Bos 50 or lower (not that it matters to them anyway). I could see Nets at 30 wins which should be already an immense improvement for them.
58-62 wins is still way too high
Again 61 would have tied them with the best record in the NBA.
LAL only won 57.
And the East has only gotten better thanks to teams like Chicago, Miami, NY, Milwaukee, etc.. all getting better.
Low 50’s for Chicago at best. They are still young and need to gel.

i love to see our team of now play..
i hope our nets can wait til deadline..
The lineup above on the poll will not happen as you have to give up either Harris or Murphy to match Melo’s salary wise. However, if it does happen, I’d say that Nets would be on par with the starting lineup with Chi on paper.
I agree with this post. However I think Melo is the one calling the shots. He has all the leverage, but the Nets are clearly the frontrunners in the whole “Melo sweepstakes.” Melo has made it known what teams he will sign an extension with. As I stated in a different post, no team will trade its future knowing that they only are “renting” Melo for one year. The Knicks, Rockets, Magic, Nets, and Clippers are all teams I believe he will sign extensions with. However the Knicks, Rockets, and Magic cant put together good enough trade packages in order to deal for him (they also don’t have picks to trade). The Nets and Clippers can put together the most attractive trade packages plus the Nets have a ton of picks to give up. The Clippers are a losing organization with horrible management, plus Melo and his wife both would love to live in the NY/NJ area. I think he will be a Net.

The Nets may have the pieces to swing a trade for Carmelo Anthony, but that would require the Nuggets to change their current stance on the All-Star forward.
New Jersey has the young players and draft picks to make a deal, but there is another way they could acquire Anthony in the not-so-distant future.
Unless Anthony signs a contract extension with Denver, which he’s been offered, he’ll hit the free agent market after the 2010-11 season.
The Nets are projected to have roughly $20 million in cap space, more than enough to court Anthony.
What about
TWIll, harris, and imo steal of the draft Damion James?
The more i think about it, the more i say dont trade for melo
