Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Two players who the Nets cannot trade

For a fact, I know I would be upset if Brook Lopez gets traded. He was one of our bright spots this season. Also, he is one of the top centers in the league(which is hard to find these days). To trade him for Carmelo would not be worth it.  Let's look at other players.

I also would mind if Derrick Favors gets traded. Is potential is off the roof. And remember the last power forward we drafted with the first pick and how good he became? Wouldn't it kill you if Favors became the next Shaq or Tim Duncan while in Denver? These are the only two players I wouldn't give up.

Here's my trade: Murphy, Williams, Humphries, and picks and cash for Melo ..... if they include Billups or Smith I'd throw in Harris.

trading for melo and giving away half the roster isn’t going to produce any more wins for this season. in my opinion the nets would be much better off playing out the season as is, if its lottery bound get a nice young piece again, and then spend the 20 million in cap space wisely and theyll be much better off down the road then giving away a bunch of young talent for a guy who i personally think wouldnt even be able to play for or get along with avery johnson anyway.

nuggets have to BEG

then we’ll give them Hump, 2 moldy picks, and Kiki’s expiring contract

UNTOUCHABLE

Brook lopez devin harris t-will/morrow and murphy cannot be traded cause without them we dont even have a normal line up anymore. we can trade back-ups and third strings and outlaw but dont trade your starters when you dont have anyone in there place or else we may just as well not trade anyone at all.

nuggets arent trading melo to nets unless brook or favors is included and if not brook then probably itd be favors & harris, twill and a #1 dp + cash, and probably in that case theyd also include murphy and get back jr smith. i wouldnt trade for melo if u had to include brook or favors, melo scores 25 ppg+ and does about nothing else.

the biggest problem the nets had is they had their one horrible season and didnt get the top pick, so favors has to become a dwight howard type player otherwise their horrible season went for nothing. the easiest way in the nba to succeed big time long term is to have a horrible year and get the #1 pick – ie spurs & duncan, & then have ur franchise player for the next 10-15 years. the nets missed out on that with wall so favors has to get lucky, or the nets have to get incredibly lucky probably this season or next season and luck into the #1-#2 pick instead of picking around 8-14 where they would be slotted.

i dunno why melo wouldnt just sign for 3 yrs $65 mil unless he can force them to sign & trade for that. otherwise he will probably give up probably 20-25 mil because of the new cba. or just stay in denver & sign for like 5 yrs & 100 mil, if thats possible, i assume it is?

No thanks to Billups and Smith. we dont need em and they are not worth Harris, who is still much younger than Billups.

the most we should give up is Favors, Twill and a Pick

no way we trade harris favors and twil and a pick

There's only one player who the Nets cannot absolutely move

Unless we get CP3, Durant and Melo at once. That’s Brook Lopez. Anyone else for the right price is up for grabs.

12 win teams don't have untouchable players

i wouldn’t want to trade lopez or favors, but i’d much rather trade them than have another 12 win season

by drmagoo on Sep 1, 2010 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

i think they’ll win between 25 – 35, but i thought that last pre-season too. they got a couple of average players in murphy & outlaw and some bench guys but it hasn’t been a stellar off-season. favors is very raw. the biggest improvement will be having a decent coach.

They're a playoff caliber team...

with or without anymore acquisitions. Now they’ll be first round exits but a playoff team nonetheless.

so its clearly not a 12 win season...

about biggest improvement is not only having a new coach. but a new team and a Basketball enthusiast Owner…

the 12 win team doesn’t exist anymore.

Get over it.

it will take me a long time to get over last year’s putrid team. i think a lot of nets fans are putting the cart before the horse. the first thing the team must do is prove they’re not an embarrassing laughingstock before we start thinking about the playoffs

by drmagoo on Sep 2, 2010 6:21 AM EDT up reply actions

we can’t say they’ve improved until they start winning some games

how in the world has Brook not collected all the votes? are people voting twice or banking on a rookie never to play an NBA game or an injured PG to become better than our center. CMON now
