Hawks Eyeing Boone...for Vet's Minimum

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Hawks have Josh Boone --along with Francisco Elson and Brian Skinner-- "on their radar" now that Shaquille O'Neal has signed with the Celtics.  The Journal-Constitution indicates that Boone would have to accept the veteran's minimum.

With free agency now seven weeks old, only two of the Nets' free agents --Keyon Dooling and Tony Battie-- have signed now contracts, with the Bucks and 76ers, respectively.  That leaves Boone, Jarvis Hayes, Trenton Hassell, Chris Quinn and Bobby Simmons still unsigned.

    Boone is a Vet?

    Wow how time flies.
But wait.. the guy is only 25! I would be a disabled vet at my ripe old age of 34.

In a perfect world yes, but man, he deserves to go somewhere where he can get playing time. Sadly, thats not with the Nets.

    I'm hearing

a Greek team is interested in him. Maybe he goes overseas to get more money than what he’d get signing for the min. with a contender?

Yea hayes is the perfect role player. Suprised he isnt signed yet

Compared with who is out there to be bringing in for a bench role, it doesn’t get much better then Boone. We should resign.

It seems like management is dead set on turning over the roster as much as possible from last year.

I don’t like the decision, but it definitely seems the way management is going. I guess they figure it’s good to remove as much of the 12-win stigma as possible.

Hayes and Hassell deserve a home

Those two can go, just because of last season doesnt mean they dont have talent. Trenton is really good for a locker room and can help the team.

would be an awesome signing for a contender.

    minimum salary

No big risk. No big gain. Seven weeks into the free agency this is what to expect.

    13 guaranteed deals.

    SEAN MAY!!!!

Are you kidding me?! This guy hasn’t played more than 30 games in any of his seasons. His knees are shot and he’s out of shape and over weight. I like every move we have done to this point, but this is a joke.

Why would we possibly let Boone go??

One of the only guys that played hard and can actually rebound. Another mind-boggling move by this moronic organization.

    @ Issac

Only problem Boone had was free throws and his confidence. If he didn’t get so down when he wasn’t getting minutes, he probably would have been resigned. When he did get a lot of minutes he was able to play well for us. I don’t understand letting him go and signing Sean May. Mind boggling.

I would rather bring Boone back then bring in Sean May. Boone can rebound, defend, and finish around the rim. What more can you ask for this far into free agency. Oh well…

i dont want no part of the guys from last season dont care how good they can bee
we need new blood in the locker room so why not go and get Sean May

Um, say what you will about Sean May...

But May can shoot almost 8 out of 10 free throws fat and on one knee.
Josh Boone, fully healthy, with complete support, tons of 2nd chances, and 3 shrinks can’t get more than 4 out of 10 in the big basket.
We should have turned that page a long time ago.
Best of luck to Booney, he is a nice young man, now let’s move on.

by Jron on Aug 5, 2010 10:58 PM EDT reply actions

There are no words to express how discouraged I am right now. I think Mike Brown would have gotten a somewhat better response from free agents AND we would probably not have gotten rid of Chris Douglas-Roberts, which I found to be a mistake almost from the minute it was proposed.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Aug 5, 2010 10:59 PM EDT reply actions

How many Finals did Mike Brown bring Cleveland? And where does he stand among the winningest coaches of all-time? He was only as good as LeBron would play. He’s nothing without LeBron. Please, don’t rehash your weird obsession with Brown. We signed Avery, get over it.

by JohnFromLongIsland on Aug 6, 2010 8:54 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

You’ll see in two years that Johnson without Nowitzki is less than Brown without James.

    Quinn

I’d sign a kid like Quinn to be a third point guard, and to sit at the end of the bench as a 15th man on a squad. Someone will sign him. Boone has size and is still young, someone will sign him. Hassel and Simmons, not likely. I hope they saved some money. Rural high school coaches in Ohio don’t make much money…..

Bring Boone back for the min.

    LETS GO NETS!

by JustinNJ on Aug 6, 2010 1:24 AM EDT reply actions

    Hayes, Hassell, Boone, Quinn, Simmons...

Were bench players, some getting more DNP’s than minutes, for a team that competed to be the worst in the history of the game.

That’s how every other team is probably thinking. As much as it’s in the past, last season may prove to be career killers for some of these guys.
