Melo and Paul take their talents to...
To the chagrin of Andres, I'm here to make my pitch for Melo, but one that gives us enough assets to make a run for a healthy CP3 too, and BRING THEM TO THE ROCK!
I understand that neither of these guys has ever won anything, but it would be interesting to see what they could do together. I anticipate and welcome any critcism or skepticism.
Part 1:
Murphy, Favors, Ross and 1st and 2nd rounder (we can debate which picks) and cash(3 mil)
for
Melo.
This scenario ONLY works as follows. Anthony signs extension and Murphy is BOUGHT OUT by Denver. (That's why we sweeten pot with draft picks so they let Murphy out) We re-sign Murphy in the time needed to elapse (see last yr's Ilgauskus deal). Hopefully our Jersey guy Murphy, wouldn't screw us.
This would leave us with Harris, Twill, James, Brook etc. and salaries are even. Then we let season start until Outlaw and company's contracts are tradeable. (also time to see that CP3 is healthy) We have solid squad with this deal even if we don't go to part 2: Lopez, Murphy, Melo, T-will/Morrow, Harris with plenty of depth.
Part 2:
Outlaw, Harris, Humphries, Petro, James, May, 3 mil cash, GS pick and a 2nd rounder
for
CP3 and Okafor (total salary difference is about 2 mil NO>NJ but we are still 2.5 under cap after 1st deal)
Let's look at our potential lineup
Lopez
Murphy
Melo
Morrow (or T-will)
CP3
Bench: Okafor Farmar T-will (Tazmanian devil 6th man!) Uzoh Zoubek and pick up 2 vets min or rooks or NBDL
We essentially lose Favors Harris and James plus 2 1st rounders for Melo, CP3 and Okafor
Salaries work too (unless there is some type of base yr compensation I didn't factor in). I think NO might be in if CP3 continues to complain. They might want T-will instead of James (I wouldnt deal both together) and Petro and Outlaw contracts combined are still more manageable than Okafor's). Denver gets to rebuild with Favors and picks (no more than that)
I apologize to those that dislike complex scenarios such as these, especially when I have absolute zero insight as to what Denver or New Orleans really want to deal there star for, but I did it cause I'm a fan and think this squad would be able to compete and do quite well. Good balance in the starting lineup, we'd have 2.5 star-type players (Melo, Paul and Brook), surround them with really good shooters for spacing (Murphy and Morrow). Twill can fill in at 2 and 3. Farmar to back up 1. Okafor for the 4 & 5. Zoubek, Uzoh and veterans for the minium for depth (perhaps Hayes and or Boone (that's to make you happy Andres)). We'd still have a couple of picks to boot.
I'm happy if we do nothing and just watch our kids develop too but just felt like having a little fun with Melo
Otherwise, where's Gina been? She didn't leave us did she? I have missed her "This" and "+1's".

two (three) things..
Essentially you would expecting the Nets to work with an 8 man rotation, and that’s if we would be able to resign Murphy (and I’m not sure if it’s so simple that Denver could cut him and we resign him just like that). And, we can no longer trade our rookies until the season is over (Favors and James). So, if we take out the two rookies (and Murphy?) chances of this trade going down are roughly .001%. Even before my addendums chances were about 1%.
8 man rotation could be tough
would trust b King to find some good vets to help out
I do believe rookies are tradeable this season though
i think ure right
I think the 2nd deal, NO would want T-will over D James, if not both (at which point I say no)
in trade #1...
… murphy is traded and then bought out by denver making him a free agent (this type of thing is occurring more frequently, and I cited the Ilgauskas deal from last yr) and then he comes back to Nets
okafor is in the mix because i think in any cp3 deal, they (NO) try to get from under his big contract (i believe 4 yrs 54 mil). if it helps us get CP3 and give up less talent, then it might be worth considering
Personally
From what I am hearing, the Nets will need to give up Favors, Williams, and Murphy along with the possibility of future draft picks in order to obtain Melo.
The only way they could get both is if Melo signs an extension, and Paul walks out on the Hornets at the end of his deal.
With the roster New Jersey has right now, adding Melo would make them playoff, maybe even championship contenders
Harris
Marrow
Anthony
Murphy (Assuming Denver cuts him and he resigns with New Jersey)
Lopez
Now thats a roster Jersey could be proud of.
"I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow...'Cause I Get Better Looking Every Day" Joe Namath
cp 3 isnt a free agent for 2 yrs
and I think when i offer these deals, it’s what i’m willing to offer (if i were b king) i’m not going to give up too much. In my version, it’s draft picks and favors for melo.
i cold live with that as long as murphy is bought out and comes back to nets
can we wait and see first before we get too hyped up and expect melo on the nets… too many things need to go right
I am going to turn this team around 360 Degrees- Jason Kidd
dont get me wrong
i like the group we have, i purchased full season tix to back up that sentiment
i do however, enjoy having a little fun trying to imagine a way to add some top- level talent, without trading our whole team away
the simplest solution to all this...
is not trade for Melo at all and let our young, promising guys develop. If by chance Melo plays out the year in Denver and becomes a free agent next summer, we still have a pretty good chance of landing him. And If our current roster pans out this year, we’ll be a heck of a lot stronger if we do get him next summer.
What a beautiful Wet Dream

Forget this!!!!!! Im tired of hearing MELO MELO MELO!, CP3 Cp3 CP3!!!
Take our team into this season and well see what happens. if we gotta adjust, thats fine!
MELO MELO MELO!, CP3 Cp3 CP3!!!
MELO MELO MELO!, CP3 Cp3 CP3!!!
You have to consider what other teams may offer
So Favors, Murphy, James, two 1sts for Melo. This offer is better than Kaman, Aminu, Gordon Top 7 protected minny pick (no protection in ’12) and a 1st. Its also better that what Houston has to offer.
