I might be totally misreading this whole Carmelo thing but it appears to me that there are only two clear choices of teams he might go to, Nets or Clippers. From everything I have been reading The Wolves, Kings, Nets, and Clippers are the frontrunners. However Melo probably won't sign an extension with the Kings and will certainly not sign one in Minnesota. Obviously the Wolves and Kings aren't going for it all this year and would not want to deal away their future for a guy who would only be with them for one season. He would probably sign an extension with the Rockets or Knicks, but they don't have enough pieces and picks to offer Denver in a trade. That leaves the Nets and Clippers. We all know the Nets have a lot of young talent to use as trade bait and we have accumulated a surplus of draft picks. Add to this Carmelo and his wifes desire to live in a major city such as NYC, along with Proky and his deep pockets, and I think we should be considered the favorites. The Clippers have trade bait as well and LA is a major city that might attract Melo and LaLa. However the Clippers ownership is horrendous and they have such a stigma of being a losing franchise that I think he might be reluctant to choose them over the Nets. I would love for us to land such a high profile, star player but I am extremely nervous that Billy King will jump the gun and give Denver too much. We have leverage and should take solice in knowing that Melo wants to come here and as I stated above, that carries a lot of weight.
